run and the Horns scored on a
23 yard run by Kyler Richards
followed by Lance Burns PAT.
The Angoras scored midway
through the 2nd quarter to
extend the lead to 7 but the
Horns would respond in less
than a minute as Joshua Puentez
scored from one yard out. The
PAT was blocked and left the
Horns down at the half 14-13.
The second half was played in
a steady mist and rain. Minus
the wet stuff, it was a great night
to play football. Rocksprings
extended their lead to 21-13 and
had the momentum as the
Horns offense was forced to
punt on their first two
possessions of the half, but
Joshua Puentez picked off the
Rocksprings QB and raced 50
yards for the TD. He also ran in
the two point conversion and
tied the game at 21-21. At the 8
minute mark of the 4th quarter
and facing fourth down and five,
Burns booted a 25 yard field
goal to give the Horns a three
point lead. After stopping the
Angoras next drive and forcing a
punt, the Longhorns turned the
ball over inside their own 30
yard line and Rocksprings took
advantage. They made two big
conversions on their drive and
scored with 2:30 left to take the
28-24 lead. The Horns were
unable to mount a drive and
turned the ball over on downs to
end the game.
This week the Horns have
their open date and will open
district play next week in
Menard. Our Shorthorns will
also take this Thursday off and
return to action next week. We
will play a six-man junior varsity
game in Ira on Thursday
beginning at 7 pm.
