Weekly News Week of 18th February 2013 Knowledge, skills and concepts acquired Unit Of Inquiry– How we organise ourselves Central Idea Public places serve the needs of the community in an organised way. Lines of inquiry Services needed to support a community Structure and functions of public places Responsibility towards public places Key concepts Form, function and responsibility The students: went on a school tour to understand how their school is organised and structured to suit the needs of the community discussed form—the school structure, function (the way it works) and responsibility (our responsibility towards it) read the book “Shopping” and discussed how and why shopping malls and markets are organised to serve the needs of the community read the book “Jobs People Do” followed by oral comprehension Summative Assessment— Knowledge based worksheet Inquiry in Language introduced to the vowel sound– ’ir’ and ‘ur’ and formed sentences were pre-assessed on the usage of question mark introduced to the use of the question mark(?) through a sentence strip activity Hindi: (Standard) PPT on pashu aur pakshiyon ke naam (Names of animals and birds) Pathan aur lekhan abhyas (Read and write words and sentences using and ki matra) Activity:- Identified matra through a kavita (Abnitio) Sabjiyon, phalon, pashu aur pakshiyon ke naam (Names of vegetables, fruits, animals and birds) Revision of two and three letters words without matra Numeracy: read the book ‘Tick Tock’ reinforcing the concept of time rehearsed reading and writing time using both analogue and digital clocks in a time booklet Ordinal numbers up to 20 were introduced through a book– “Henry the Fourth” Glimpses of the week In the ICT Class…. In continuation with the lessons on MS Word, students explored and practiced the functions of the following tools in MS Word: Inserting text and editing it Page colours Page borders Word Art Collaboration with the UOI Students were taken on a tour of our school, to show them different technologies at use for smooth functioning of an organization. In the PE Class…. The students practiced : forward and backward running on the tracks how to catch a ball with one bounce soccer obstacle race using hurdles and hoops In Music Class…. Students rehearsed the song “Holi Ayee Re” for the approaching festival of Holi HOLI Holi ayee re aye re holi aye re Sa Re Ga Ga Ga ,Re Sa Re Re Re Pa Ma Ga Re Sa Khele gulal sab gaalon pe lagaye Rang bhar bhar pichkari se nehlaye Holi ayee re Collaboration with the UOI Gali gali me dafali baaje In accordance with the current Abir gulal bhar bhar ke udaye Unit of Inquiry on ‘how we organise ourselves,’ students were introduced to the concept of singing in harmony and how human voices are broadly divided into ‘soprano,’ ‘alto,’ ‘tenor,’ and ‘bass’ singing parts, according to different pitches. The popular western classical song “Ode to Joy” (L.V. Beethoven) was taught in Spelling Challenge The next spelling challenge will be on Friday, 1st March 2013 .
