Notes from Dietary:
Our residents love to have family
members visit and eat with them
whenever possible. We always try to
accommodate unexpected visitors and
understand that families can’t always
plan ahead especially in the Iowa
winter months.
However, during the holidays
we must have one week notice as our
menus are planned and food is ordered
a week in advance. Be mindful that if
someone in your group has special
food needs to please make your own
food arrangements. We will only be
accommodating special food needs for
our residents. Also, please help us by
keeping the number of guests to
three per resident as we do have
limited seating space.
Reminder: Our activity room is
available for family potluck gatherings
with a stove, sink, coffee maker, and
refrigerator to use. Just call ahead
and reserve the activity room with
Alison or Gayla.
Thanks~~ Deanna Fales
Resident of the Month:
Erma Anderson
A note from the
Administrator’s Desk:
It’s about that time of year for
Santa to be checking his list for
those naughty and nice. I’m
certainly happy that all of our
residents and employees qualify for
the “good” list… or as my youngest
grandson says, “tell Santa that I can
explain” when some activity is
questionable!
For me, December is a reflective
month… time to recognize all the
good things in one’s life and not
dwell too much on any negatives.
And yes, to say “good-bye” to some
very special people. Although some
friends and relatives may be gone
from sight, they are still remembered
fondly and will be missed. When you
come for a visit, please take a
moment and look at our
“Remembrance Tree” by the main
entrance. This tree holds pictures of
those people who were residents of
Pleasant View and died during 2009.
It’s our way to honor them.
I would like to wish each of you a
very blessed and happy holiday.
Thank you for trusting your loved one
to our care.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Beverly Mericle, Administrator
Erma was born November 13,
1919 at home in Albert City. Erma had
one sister who died shortly after birth.
She attended school through the eighth
grade here in Albert City.
Erma worked 30 years at as the
financial secretary of Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church. She was also on the
school board as the treasurer. Among
her other accomplishments she was the
secretary for the Albert City
Chamber of Commerce.
Her many hobbies and
talents include feeding the birds,
taking care of many cats, Coffee
with the “girls”, helping with clubs
in the church, prayer calendars, year
books, programs, and special
announcements. She was also a prayer
warrior for missions.
Erma’s mother used to make
mayonnaise, peanut butter and banana
sandwiches on white bread. They are
delicious! You all should try one.
Erma was a Sunday school
teacher for many years. When her father
and his twin sister celebrated their 75th
birthday, she taught her 7th grade class
(many were children of his nieces and
nephews) to sing “Church of the
Heavenly Father” and “Jesus Love Me” in
Swedish. She still remembers the words.
The Mayor of Albert City
proclaimed Sunday, May 20, 1979 as
“Erma Anderson Day” in recognition of
her outstanding dedication to the
betterment of Albert City.
Men of the community came
together to pay for and build an attached
garage for her house and an electric
door opener at that.
One Christmas Our Savior’s
congregation gave Erma her car, which
really surprised her.
Erma is such a kind lady and is
always so friendly. This is why she is our
resident of the month.

Because of Christmas Day...
By Ravi Sathasivam
When the December
comes
When the white snow cover
our lands
My heart is filled with
joy
because this is the month
for Christmas
When the carols are being
sung
When the Christmas trees
are brighten the house
When the stockings are
overflowing under the
tree
When everyone's face
is glowing to open
the gifts
My heart is filled
with joy
When the cities are
decorated with lights
When the snow flakes are
softly falling on my head
When my family dance and
walk around streets
When our friends visit
our home for dinner
My heart is filled with
joy
This blessed Christmas
joy within our hearts
and celebrate throughout
the world
to observe the birth of
Christ
Sandy Westcott
For 6 years now Sandy has
been a housekeeper here at Pleasant
View. Sandy lives here in Albert City
with her husband Jeff and son
Michael. She has a daughter
Elizabeth, and another son Caleb.
Sandy also has three stepchildren,
Tara, Trista, and Jon. With two
grandchildren Bryant and Kailyn she
is busy keeping up with them. She
really enjoys spending time with her
family.
Sandy grew up here in Albert

memories of camping and fishing
with her family. She also really
cherishes the holiday get togethers
that she and her family had.
Another memory from her
childhood was riding her Shetland
pony, Midnight.
Sandy keeps our nursing
home clean. She does an excellent job
with a smile on her face and this is
why she is one of our staff members
of the month.
Just a reminder:

They are all very interested in
Horses and 4-H.
One thing that not many
people know about Kay is that
she hates the sound of
Styrofoam being cut.
She got her Associate
Degree in nursing and now Kay is a
registered nurse here at Pleasant View.
Followed
by
Veterans

the local Legion came and gave a
great program for us. Thank you to all of our
