[email protected] 720-913-1231 On Saturday, October 11 we enjoyed a fabulous “Celebrate Morningside” party in the Clubhouse. Our new Social Committee, under the joint leadership of Sheila Nitzel and Kathy McCaughin, decorated the main room with beautiful flowers and created a cheery fall ambiance. Committee members Dee Melicher, Janie Taylor, Gloria Patten, Doris Young, Irene Schneiker and Wendy Lewis met several times to plan the event and gather supplies. Then they all pitched in to create the event, host the guests and do a prodigious amount of cleaning up after we all left. and Mrs. Harry Bailis, provided the best example of sharing with the community by celebrating their 54 th wedding anniversary with a whole roomful of their closest friends! Thanks to all who participated. And thanks to the two committees who so graciously provided us the opportunity for fun and fellowship. Warmly, Savannagh Fill Out Your Survey, Please The Clubhouse committee members, under Sue McGinley’s direction, were also on hand to give guided tours of our newly completed workout rooms and answer questions about the indoor pool project that is beginning on October 20. By now everyone should have received a survey from the Social Committee asking for input about what kind of events you would like them to provide for us. If you have not yet done so, please take a moment to complete your survey and place it in the box in your building’s lobby for collection on October 31. Over 90 community members joined us, and expressed much appreciation for the festive occasion. Some even volunteered to join the committee for upcoming events! We’re particularly grateful for the assistance provided by Tyler Nelson, both before and after the event. And, Mr. We’re fortunate to have such a talented and enthusiastic group of people who are eager to support our community’s social life. Please give them the benefit of your answers so they can plan events you’d like to attend. October Reminders Every time a card key is used to enter the clubhouse or pool area the date and time as well as the unit are recorded. This has made it possible to pursue rules violators when necessary. Keep alert and be aware of what is going on around you, especially when leaving and entering buildings. Please dispose of cigarette butts properly. It is unsightly to see them tossed on the ground. Please leave items you want to share on the shelves in the basements, not in the lobbies. It is time to close the vents on your air conditioning units for the winter. Please be careful on the fire escapes when it snows. Although they are cleared of snow they can still be very slippery. Furniture, drapes, debris, etc. must be kept away from the heating units to allow free air circulation around the pipes. Lanai doors are to be kept closed during cold weather in order to pro- tect the heating pipes that run beside the lanai door and in the concrete floor under the door. Any problems with the heating pipes or the thermostat should be reported to Skyline immediately. Please Join Us The next Board of Directors meeting is: October 23, 2014 7 pm in the Clubhouse Page 3 M or ni ng si d e - l i te s A ug ust 2 014 Security: It is Everyone’s Responsibility Our buildings at Morningside are relatively secure with MEDECO locks (controlled key distribution), under building garages with key access to the elevators and stairs and phone controlled entry systems. However, every time an individual enters or exits our buildings or buzzes someone in there is the potential for unwanted persons to get into the buildings. It is important that we all be careful, alert and aware of those around us. Make sure that building doors are locked, don’t let anyone in that you do not know, and watch until the garage doors are down. Do not confront people in the halls, but let management know if you see someone or something suspicious. If a dangerous or serious situation occurs call 9-1-1 or the nonemergency police number at Homeowners/tenants in multitenant residential facilities are required to complete an annual Residential Fire Safety Equipment Report pertaining to portable fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, and submit to the property management (Skyline). See form attached to this newsletter. 720-913-2000. In our world today there are many challenges to safety and security and we all need to be very aware and alert at all times. Those of us who travel hear this reminder constantly at the airports. It is something we need to learn to practice everywhere. It is required that addresses and unit numbers be clearly marked; fire lanes must be clearly marked and kept unobstructed; hose connections must be easily accessible; each building level must have portable fire extinguishers. Fire hazards common to multifamily buildings Include: cooking – indoors and out; outdoor grilling; portable heaters; smoking; candles; and clothes dryers. Care should be taken when these items are used. Also please be aware that no grills are allowed in the units or on the lanais. INDIVIDUAL UNITS Although the fire department does not inspect individual units the owner/manager/HOA share responsibility for compliance with Denver City code requirements. Therefore: SMOKE DETECTORS are required in every bedroom and outside each sleeping area in every residential unit and on every level of a multi-level dwelling unit. CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS are required within 15 feet of each bedroom entry door and on every level of a multi-level dwelling unit. They are required to be added upon remodeling and/or change in ownership or tenant of a dwelling unit. PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Every home must have one or more fire extinguishers. They should be checked annually.
