Million Dollar Match in Support of Hospitals of Regina The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation (SSCF) and its donors consider health care vitally important to community wellbeing. As such, the SSCF has made a $10,000 contribution to the Hospitals of Regina (HRF) Foundation’s Surgical Campaign. Until June 30, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) has generously offered to match any cash donation to help Regina’s hospitals improve surgical care for southern Saskatchewan. According the the HRF website, each year, over 26,000 surgeries are performed in the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (RQHR). And, because Regina’s hospitals act as regional healthcare centres, about one third of those surgeries are performed on patients from across southern Saskatchewan. The Hospitals of Regina Foundation is the primary charity for Saskatchewan healthcare. They have done an impresive job at building and sustaining outstanding philanthropic and community support for the current and future needs of our hospitals. They provide donors with opportunities to fulfil their aspirations of building centres of excellence in health services, primarily through funding medical technology, as well as support of research and education. As an organization, they bring a donor-centered approach that forges and maintains strong partnerships with donors, the community, health providers and government. Thank you to the Hospitals of Regina for the amazing work you do and to PotashCorp for supporting healthcare in south Saskatchewan. We had a great turn out - with over 70 people. Everyone who came received a free binder (valued at $30.00) provided by the Parkview Funeral Home, with net proceeds donated to the Canadian Red Cross and the SSCF Smart & Caring Fund. In these presentations, Harold covers 12 sections of the most important information and documentation needed in case of an emergency or death in the family. He has spent the past several years making presentations using a special binder that helped him and his family when his wife, Betty passed away. The material included has been reviewed by a specialist in this field who recommends that everyone should have a package and complete it. These binders are available for purchase at the SSCF office. We are planning more presentations this year in Regina and southern Saskatchewan. Check our website News & Events for updates! A Vital Signs Report for Regina! Vital Signs is an annual check-up conducted by community foundations to measure the vitality of communities across Canada. It gathers and publishes data on significant social and economic trends and assigns grades in areas critical to quality of life. SSCF is conducting its first Vital Signs report on Regina this year! The annual Vital Signs reports promote awareness of community issues and are used by communities for social planning, by citizens and philanthropists to identify community needs and strengths, and by community foundations to inform their grantmaking and leadership activities. On May 27th, we held a Vital Signs Community Cafe at the Regina Food Bank with many organizations we hoped would have interest in the project. It was a great opportunity to share information and recevie feedback. We look forward to working with community partners moving forward on the project. The report will be available in early October of 2014. For more information on Vital Signs, click here. Congratulations to the Moffat Family Fund Recipients for 2014! The following charitable organizations will receive grant support from the Moffat Family Fund this year. Created at The Winnipeg Foundation in December of 2001, the Moffat Family Fund represents a vision for “a Canadian society where all individuals have equal opportunities to develop their potential.” The Fund, which consists of the annual interest from a large investment, is directed to programs giving children and families an equal chance in society and is designated for distribution in communities where the Moffat family operated their media businesses - radio, TV and cable. The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation Inc., with the help from Moose Jaw Arts In Motion, administers this annual grant program. The campaign,”Your Community Makes You and You Make Your Community”, portrays the reciprocal relationship between individuals and their communities. It embraces the idea that our communities make who we are and that we, in turn shape our communities - making them better places to live, work and play. For nearly a century, Community Foundations across Canada have been the heart of community building by helping Canadians give back. Our nationwide network of thousands of donors, volunteers and professionals allow us to mobilize resources and connect people, families and corporations with the causes that inspire them. The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation, in partnership with TC Media has launched a media campaign. Stories about those who impact our community most will be featured in newspapers throughout southern Saskatchewan over the coming months.
