Day 1: SANTO STEFANO DI SESSANIO Day 2: LOOP HIKE FROM DI SANTO STEFANO DI SESSANIO - CALASCIO - CASTELVECCHIO CALVISIO elevation gain 590 mts hiking time 5 hours Through the district of the Lands of the Barony, climb Renaissance oratory of "Madonna dei Monti" and the fortress of Rocca Calascio, a splendid example of medieval fortress, location of many films. It starts downhill through the town, mostly abandoned, Rocca Calascio to reach Castelvecchio Calvisio and then return to Santo Stefano di Sessanio. There is the possibility to have lunch in Rocca Calascio with typical local products. By late afternoon, stroll in Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Lunch and accomodation. Day 3: FROM ALBERGO DI CAMPO IMPERATORE TO PRATI DI TIVO elevation gain 1135 mts hiking time 8 hours (Alternative to bad weather) Beautiful hike, a classic of Gran Sasso, on a historic trail, which was used for exchanges between one side and the other side of Gran Sasso. We go down altitude until reaching the huts (ancient places of shelter for shepherds), and take the Val Maone where you can enjoy fantastic views of the east wall of Pizzo Intermesoli and shoulders of Corno Piccolo. Continue downhill until the waterfalls of Rio Arno, meeting the Grotta dell'Oro and the headwaters of Rio Arno. From the waterfalls on the right starts a track leading to Prati di Tivo. Transfer to Caramanico Terme, dinner and accomodation. Info Trekking through the Distretto Alte Vette. Although the path is arduous, there are no real difficulties. The new trail, traced in 2005, is held on the left and it's less exposed to the falling rocks. Reached a ridge, you will overlook the Calderone Glacier, you will reach the western ridge and climb up scree to the summit (2,912 meters). The extraordinary panorama embraces the other peaks of Corno Grande, Corno Piccolo and the other peaks of the Gran Sasso, Campo Imperatore and many peaks of Central Appennines. Valle dell'Orfento is one of the most beautiful and best preserved of Majella Valleys, through the establishment of the homonymous nature reserve which, although already in a national park, protects the most naturalistic value. In this trek we will climb the lower middle course starting from the town of Caramanico Terme. In the dense vegetation of oaks, hornbeams and maples there is a rich wildlife: wolves, bears, deers and otters. Looking up you can see the silhouettes of peregrine falcons, golden eagles and lanari. Late afternoon, walk in Caramanico Terme. Dinner and accomodation. Day 5: CARAMANICO TERME THE SPIRITUAL PATH, MAJELLA HERITAGES elevation gain 600 mts hiking time 6 hours. An amazing experience in the Majella: from Roccamorice, going up the spiritual path, to discover the hermitage of San Bartolomeo in Legio; then continue by minibus to the hermitage of Santo Spirito a Majella. Continuing along the trail, we will reach the Hermitage of San Giovanni. Possibility to have lunch at Decontra. Day 6: CARAMANICO TERME After breakfast, end of services and leave for their destinations. A one-week tour in the Majella National Park. The tour will depart from Caramanico Terme, (one of the most beautiful village in Italy) where health and nature coexist in perfect harmony. Caramanico is a small but charming medieval village 650 meters above sea level in the heart of the Majella National Park. Day 1: CARAMANICO TERME Day 2: FROM SAN TOMMASO TO MUSELLARO (ACROSS THE “RAPIDE DI SANTA LUCIA”) elevation gain 400 mts hiking time 3 hours. Route that crosses the Orta River and goes through the picturesque Rapide di Santa Lucia. At either end, the two villages of San Tommaso of Caramanico and Musellaro. From San Tommaso (Popoli), go down an easy path between oaks and flowering ash to the bridge over the Orta River. Cross it and then, on the opposite site of the river, appear the ruins of the old Roman bridge, the Ponte Luco, demonstration of the enormous importance that the valley has had as a communication way, especially in the Middle Ages. Many flower essences that will accompany us along the way. Several views that offer a look along the Majella and small villages such as Roccacaramanico. Mount Morrone has a very specific aspect, is isolated enough to ensure relaxation and, above all, it offers wonderful views. Particularly those on the western wall of the Majella. The path has a medium elevation gain and a long development mileage, which makes the ascent always pleasant and free of annoying tearing.
