Windows 7

Microsoft Windows 7 is one of the most successful versions of the
Windows operating system line ever released.

Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009. It was
made available to the public on October 22, 2009.

Windows 7 is preceded by Windows Vista, and succeeded by
Windows 8.

Windows 7 Editions

Six editions of Windows 7 are available, the first three of which
below are the only ones available for sale directly to the consumer:
 Windows 7 Ultimate
 Windows 7 Professional
 Windows 7 Home Premium
 Windows 7 Enterprise
 Windows 7 Starter
 Windows 7 Home Basic

Windows 7 Enterprise is designed for large organizations. Windows
7 Starter is only available for preinstallation by computer makers,
usually on small form factor or lower end computers. Windows 7
Home Basic is only available in some developing countries.


Windows 7 Home Premium is also available in a "family pack" that
allows installation onto up to three separate computers. Most
Windows 7 licenses allow installation onto only one device.

Except for Windows 7 Starter, all versions of Windows 7 are
available in either 32-bit or 64-bit versions.


An operating system allows your computer to manage software and
perform essential tasks. It is also a Graphical User Interface (GUI)
that allows you to visually interact with your computer’s functions in
a logical, fun and easy way.

For example, in Windows 7 you can view two windows side by side
by using the Aero Snap feature. This feature automatically sizes or
snaps two windows to fit together on the screen thus allowing you
the convenience of viewing them next to each other.

32-bit and 64-bit
 In the personal computing world, 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the type of
central processing unit, operating system, driver, software program,
etc. that utilizes that particular architecture.

32-bit hardware and software is often referred to as x86 or x86-32.
64-bit hardware and software is often referred to as x64 or x86-64.

32-bit systems utilize data in 32-bit pieces while 64-bit systems
utilize data in 64-bit pieces.

In general, the more data that can be processed at once, the faster
the system can operate.

There are several other advantages to a 64-bit system as well, most
practically the ability to use significantly greater amounts of physical
memory.


Most new processors today are based on the 64-bit architecture and
support 64-bit operating systems. These processors are also fully
compatible with 32-bit operating systems.

Most editions of Windows 7 and Windows Vista are available in 64bit format. Only Windows XP Professional is available in 64-bit. All
editions of Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP are also
available in 32-bit.

Aero





Aero is an interface that makes your visual interactions with the desktop fun
and easy.
Aero Peek makes your open windows transparent so you may see your
desktop. It also allows you to peek at items in your taskbar for a thumbnail
preview.
Aero Snap is a quick way to resize your windows to make them easier to
read, organize and compare.
Aero Flip allows you to preview all your open windows from a central
window or 3D view that you can flip through.
Aero Shake allows you to take your mouse and shake only the open

Upgrading to Windows 7




The major upgrade versions of Windows 7 are Home Premium
($119.99), Professional ($199.99) and Ultimate ($219.99).
Home Premium is the most popular version of Windows 7 and will

The Professional version may appeal to small to medium business
owners as it has extras like Windows XP mode and networking back
up features.
Ultimate is the most powerful version with added security features,
such as the flexibility of use in 35 languages.

Installing Windows 7
Pre-Installation Preparation
 Downloaded and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to assess you
computer's upgrade needs.
 Determined if your computer has a 32-bit or 64-bit processor.
 Figured out important Upgrade Considerations like whether you
have to perform a simple Vista upgrade or a custom (clean)
installation.
 Decided upon the Windows 7 version you need.
In addition
 you will need to make sure you have a working internet connection
upon installation, as you may be prompted to download and install
security and hardware driver updates.
 Microsoft also recommends that you update your antivirus
programs. After updating, you should run the antivirus programs
and then turn them off. Once the installation is complete, you can
turn the programs back on or install new antivirus software that is
compatible with Windows 7.
