Proofing makes more sense
if it matches the printed result
While films were still being produced, proof quality was
not an issue. You simply took the films used for the plate
copy to generate a halftone proof in ultrafine resolution.
With the introduction of the digital proof, it became
necessary to choose between the contone proof and the
familiar halftone proof. One thing is quite certain, however – customers today are becoming increasingly demanding. And if they happen to be more eagle-eyed than the
proofer, this can give rise to complaints. The best option
would undoubtedly be a proofer which simulates the print
result precisely. This is too much for a contone proofer.
A halftone proofer is needed instead. If you agree with this
argument so far, there is still just one thing that goes
against halftone proofers – their price. But Heidelberg®
has done something about that too.
Halftone proof option for the price
of a contone proofing system
The Trendsetter Spectrum™ is the latest addition to the
ever-growing Trendsetter ™ family from Heidelberg.
As an option for the Trendsetter models 3244+ and 3230+,
the Trendsetter Spectrum delivers halftone proofs in
unparalleled quality. And often at the same price as a contone proofing system. Printing is no longer a speculative
affair, but becomes highly predictable.Your customer’s
confidence in the results you can deliver will grow and
grow. When the customer gives his approval to a halftone
proof from the Trendsetter Spectrum, the job is half
done!

Which displays more, a 2400 dpi halftone proof or a 600 dpi
contone proof ? There’s no question about that. The halftone proof also gives your customers more security since
it virtually obviates any need to verify the print product.
After all, even if the customer’s complaint about the
printed result is justified, he still loses valuable time.
The Trendsetter Spectrum gives both sides a kind of
insurance against costs arising from complaints. And
the proofing process doesn’t take long, either. The
Trendsetter Spectrum operates so quickly that urgent
proofing operations can be accommodated easily.

Worlds apart – print predictions and weather predictions
A proof in the same format and layout as the press sheet
is the first requirement if the system is to function effectively as a checking tool. The Trendsetter 3244+ Spectrum
proofs in 8-up format. Color consistency is also highly
important over the entire proof. Even with repeats, there
must be no differences between the proofs. Special colors
also need to be available. The Trendsetter Spectrum can
image material from a range of manufacturers who have
responded to changing market needs and are expanding
their range of special colors accordingly. All manufacturers are aware of this need and are constantly augmenting their special color portfolio. High resolution and
the same halftone system used for the print are necessary
in order to detect moiré effects in good time. The Trendsetter spectrum delivers both. And that’s not all. It’s the
only proofer that uses precisely the same optical system
for the proof as is used to image the plate. All this adds up
to the Trendsetter Spectrum making a major contribution to reliable production.
