2015 ChampTruck Competition Rules (CTCR)
Rev 1.3.1
Released 21 January 2015
The ChampTruck World Series ®
When one mentions “truck racing,” two pictures typically pop into mind, and both of those
are based on American pick-up trucks. First, you’re probably thinking of the NASCAR
Camping World truck series. Why? Because, holding a spot within the top-tier of NASCAR
– along with the Sprint Cup and the Nationwide Series – gives the truck series a lot of
promotion.
The second picture that typically comes to mind is Baja and off-road trucks.
The idea for the NASCAR truck series dates back to 1993. A group of SCORE off-road
racers wanted a bigger audience for truck racing. They realized that racing out in the
desert, hundreds of miles from anything and anywhere, wasn’t going to attract crowds.
Rather they needed a truck series that could race where the crowds already were – on the
track. They needed a truck series that was made for both oval track and road racing.
The first prototype of the NASCAR truck series was previewed in 1994 at the Daytona 500,
and four demonstration races were held during the season. The first event at Mesa Marin
Raceway, near Bakersfield, California, had six trucks.
What most people don’t know is that, 15 years earlier, truck racing was already running on
paved tracks – ovals and road courses. And, what most people don’t know is that these
trucks were REAL trucks… Kenworth, Peterbuilt, Mack. As the boys down in Georgia
would say, “We’re talkin’ ‘bout a hefty-hunk of screamin’ junk!”
Why Georgia? It was June 17th in 1979, and the place was the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Sanctioned under the title the American Truck Racing Association, or ATRA, the event was
filmed and, for all you movie buffs, the inaugural race was used as the opening scene in the
movie “Smokey and the Bandit II.”
Under the ATRA banner, re-named later Great American Truck Racing, the sport of big-rig
truck racing continued to gain traction. In the beginning and through 1986, the trucks were
actually working trucks with tandem rear axles and used street tires. Regardless, they still
attained speeds of 150 mph on the front straight at Pocono Raceway and, on March 21,
1982, Charlie Baker set the closed course speed record of 132 mph in qualifying at Texas
World Speedway.
In 1986, the then-current owners of the series changed the rules to “go bigger” with the
truck concept and all trucks became purpose-built, highly-modified racing machines with
tube frames, lightweight bodies and highly-modified power-plants. The problem, as with
any custom-built machine, was the cost. What started out as a low-cost, grassroots truck
racing program soon became a high-dollar ticket that left most competitors with an old truck
they couldn’t use and a new truck they couldn’t afford to build. The last sanctioned event
for Great American Truck Racing in the United States was in July of 1993.

So, in 1993, as one truck series faded away (ATRA-GATR), another truck series
(NASCAR) started life… but they are two totally different series and two totally different
trucks
Meanwhile, across the pond, the Brits were watching what those crazy Yanks were up to
with their “Lorries.” Not willing to be left behind when it came to a friendly competition, the
British Truck Racing Association was formed in 1984, soon followed by the FIA European
Truck Racing Championship series in 1985.
British and European truck manufacturers – such as Volvo, MAN, Scania, Renault and a
host of other names that are unknown to most Americans – all stepped up to defend and
promote their brands. Tracks – all road racing courses – were chosen and rules were
developed to maximize competition, ensure safety and – most important – put on “one
helluva great show.” It is not uncommon for a European truck race, with other supporting
races, to attract 70,000 people over a weekend.
Using Euro-rules, the maximum race speed is restricted to 160 km/h (or 100 mph). That’s
done for safety reasons. The minimum weight limit for each competing truck is 5500 kg…
that’s 12,125 pounds. Got the picture yet? 12,000 pounds of massive machine, racing
side-by-side and door-handle-to-door-handle with 30 other trucks, at 100 miles per hour, on
road courses with up to 17 turns and straightaways of up to a mile. Like I said, it’s “one
helluva great show.”
Races start from a rolling start and, typically, races are between 10 and 15 laps on a 2- or
2.5-mile track. Endurance racing may be great for light and nimble sports cars, but at
12,000 pounds, the trucks usually run out of brakes after 50 miles of hard racing. Although
the truck racing rule book refers to the series as a “non-contact sport,” the sheer physical
size, speeds, and closeness of trucks to one another during the race events creates more
than a few situations where minor collisions – and large crashes – can occur. However,
because of the intent and focus on safety, injuries to drivers are very, very rare.
Okay, so what does all this ancient history and background information have to do with
today?
Welcome to ChampTruck! ® We’re picking up where grassroots truck
racing left off, before the rules change in 1986 and before all the costs
made truck racing untouchable.
Starting in 2015, ChampTruck International LLC will sanction and hold eight (8) events – 7
sprint races within each event – throughout the United States. Yes, that’s right – 56 races.
Six (6) sprint heat races and one (1) Trophy Dash race held over a weekend at eight great
race tracks.
ChampTruck will NOT be the exotic, high-dollar, custom-built machines that drove costs
through the roof. Instead, these will be older road going, highly used-and-abused trucks

that may have seen the end of their working days but, with a little modification and a little
work, can find a whole new career as a race track hero.
And, we’re not talking some off-the-map race track. No… we’re racing at tracks that maybe
you’ve head of: Daytona International Speedway, Laguna Seca Raceway, Charlotte Motor
Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Virginia International Raceway, Michigan International
Speedway, Portland International Raceway and Gateway International Raceway.
Unlike other forms of motorsports and auto racing, race trucks look like their road-going
counterparts and conform to regulations to ensure that major components used are the
same. While you would never see an Indy car being driven to the store, or use your
NASCAR truck to haul plywood, these trucks are – for all intent and purpose – ready to
carry a load down the highway on Monday.
Got a truck? Want to race? Here’s how…
The basic rules of the ChampTruck Series are these… any big-rig truck can enter –
conventional, cab-over or compact. And, you run a day-cab or sleeper but the chassis
needs to be a certain length and have only one drive axle. We’ll need you to remove the
saddle tanks and install an approved fuel cell behind the cab. Remove the interior and add
a safety roll cage, a racing containment seat, safety harness and fire system. Then add
some protective intrusion or bumper-bars to the front, side and rear. Remove all of the
glass, except the windshield.
Done. ChampTruck.
Okay, so maybe it’s not all that easy, but it’s really pretty simple. Read the rules. Then,
read them again and, this time, use a highlighter felt pen to mark all the important stuff.
The race format will engage road racing, completing a series of sprint or heat races, each
35 minutes long – about 18-20 laps around an average 2-mile track with 10-16 turns. No
heat race will be more than 50 miles in total length.
Events are typically Friday through Sunday. Events will always feature an open practice
and qualifying. In addition, there are typically between 4-6 heat races over the weekend.
Each finishing position from a Heat Race will earn points. The starting position for every
heat race is the inverted finishing position from the prior race. Finally, the last race on
Sunday afternoon will be the Podium Race – the dash for the cash -- where all trucks will
run for the glory, the trophy and the purse. Top points trucks are at the back, with the lower
points trucks at the front. The points spread for winning the Sunday Podium Race is higher
than a Heat Race, so anyone can win the weekend’s top prize.
Every race, a team starts with zero points; however, points from each race accumulate for
our National Championship event. Sound like fun? It’s ChampTruck…

ChampTruck may revise the CTCR or issue supplements to it, and all rules stated herein may be
amended at any given time, in writing or verbally at any event (and put in writing at a later time), at the
sole discretion of ChampTruck, based on maintaining safety, equity in competition, cost reduction,
clarification, or to stop those Champs from cheating who feel that they’re pretty damn smart. The
CTCR shall not be given a strained or tortured interpretation and shall be applied in a logical manner,
keeping in mind that it cannot specifically cover all possible situations. The word “shall” (either
positive “shall” or negative “shall not”) means that the rule is mandatory. The word “may” is
permissive. The interpretation and application of the ChampTruck Competition Rules by ChampTruck
officials shall be final and binding.
1.3. General Rules and Understandings:
1.3.1. Release and Acknowledgement Forms: All drivers and crew members must sign a ChampTruck

limited to, family, friends, invited guests and general spectators) are required to purchase (from
ChampTruck) a color-coded wrist-band, or other ChampTruck-approved, event-access credential. Often

capacity, if you do not understand this and do not get into a racing vehicle without thinking
about this. Okay, that pretty much says it all… or, maybe not. See “Insurance” (below).
1.3.3.1. Insurance: ChampTruck carries and provides insurance for facility and event liability;
however, ChampTruck is NOT your primary insurance provider. ALL COMPETITORS MUST
HAVE PERSONAL HEALTH AND/OR MEDICAL INSURANCE TO COVER THEIR

1.3.6. Unsafe Drivers: At ChampTruck’s sole discretion, any driver may be determined unsafe for
competition and may be removed from the event at any time.
1.3.7. Disqualification from Race: (IMPORTANT – READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY IF YOU
PLAN TO CHEAT OR ARE CONSIDERED BY MANY PEOPLE TO DRIVE LIKE AN IDIOT)
At the end of any event, if you have hidden or concealed anything on your truck that is illegal in any
way OR flagrantly violated ChampTruck’s rules OR failed to meet the spirit and/or intent of
ChampTruck’s rules (that’s the cheat part)… or you have seriously and repeatedly violated the event’s
driving safety rules (that’s the idiot part)… your truck may be disqualified from the event and you have
no say in the matter. No trophy, no nothing… other than a lot of embarrassment for screwing up.
1.3.7.1. The act of disqualifying any truck may occur at any time. Notification shall be issued by a
ChampTruck official to the Driver or Team Manager (or other representative).
1.3.8. Track Damage Liability: Teams entered in ANY ChampTruck event may be liable for any and all
damage their truck may have caused to the race track, race track safety barriers and/or race track
equipment if ChampTruck officials determine that the driver of the truck was negligent, driving beyond
their means, over-driving for conditions or just being really stupid.
1.3.9. Event Changes: ChampTruck reserves the right to cancel and/or alter the location, date(s), format,
length, purse and/or schedule of any event based on conditions, circumstances or matters that are
beyond the control of ChampTruck, or for any reason whatsoever. This may include, but is not limited
to: weather, track safety condition, truck-count/entry participation, track surface conditions, or changes
issued under track contractual agreements that (in the opinion of ChampTruck) would significantly
detract from the overall safety, enjoyment, track-time or services of the event.
1.3.10. Right of Publicity: All participating cars, drivers, crew members and guests may be
photographed, videotaped, recorded, or quoted and the use of such images, recordings or quotes

All significant, earth-shattering changes or additions are highlighted in RED.
Rules
Rev. 15-1.3.1
3. SAFETY
3.1. All required driver’s safety equipment must be installed, implemented, and/or worn at all times while
on the track. The participant agrees that the participant bears the ultimate responsibility at all times
to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of participant’s driver’s safety equipment, and
compliance with all ChampTruck’s rules, regulations, and agreements, including but not limited to
those contained in the CTCR.
3.2. Roll-cages and Supporting Structure: The driver's cab must be fitted with an internal safety cage.
The basic purpose of such a safety cage is to protect the driver (and optional passenger) if the
vehicle is involved in a serious accident. The minimum acceptable safety cage requirements are
detailed in these regulations but, regardless, the essential characteristics of a safety cage are first and
foremost the result of a finely detailed construction, suitable attachment to the cab and snug fitting
against the bodywork. The roll cage should follow the full outline of the cab’s interior.

It is recommended that the mounting bases be made as large as possible in order to spread loads
over the maximum area. The MINIMUM base plate area is 8” x 8”, using 3/16” steel
plate. Baseplates MUST be sandwich-bolted using ½” diameter Grade 8 hardware to the cab floor
using the exact same size, thickness and material baseplate as a matching plate. Under-cab,
matching roll cage baseplates must be attached to the chassis.
The cab may NOT be altered in ANY way for the fitting of any system or device, including the
safety roll cage. Vehicles with a poorly built, improperly mounted, inadequately fitted or badly
engineered roll-cage will NOT be allowed to compete.
The design shown (previous page) is the approved ChampTruck roll-cage. Your cage design may differ…
SLIGHTLY… but not by having fewer bars! You can always make it stronger. If your design is
considerably different from the design shown and detailed, contact ChampTruck officials BEFORE you
begin work.
All roll-cage material MUST be a MINIMUM of 2.0” OD x .120” wall DOM
steel. No exceptions.
All bars (except bars that intersect with another crossbar, such as door-bars or main-hoop diagonal) must be
one-piece, uncut and bent without fatiguing the structural integrity of the tube.
In the BASIC design shown the door bars have been crossed, further supported by a lower horizontal bar.
Also, in this design, the “halo” (overhead bar) is a one-piece design that attaches to the main hoop, with the
two A-pillar down-tubes attached to the halo.
As an alternate and acceptable design, the door bars may be horizontal (NASTRUCK-style), and the halo
may be extensions of the A-pillar bars, with a connecting frontal bar and dash bar.
ChampTruck World Series

www.champtruck.us.com
A minimum of three (3) horizontal… or… two (2) “X” and one (1) horizontal driver’s side door bars are
required. Intersecting vertical support bars are also required; minimum two (2) full sets for horizontal bars…
or… minimum one (1) center bar for “X” designs. The gutting of interior door panels and the modification
of interior sheet metal for the fitment of all roll-cage components is allowed. Door bars may extend into the
cavity of a gutted door to provide additional room for the driver’s seat.
The main hoop must be of one single tube. Floor/sill bars are required on both external sides. A dash bar is
required.
A main-hoop diagonal bar must be included, as shown (connected at bottom of passenger side of the main
hoop, and to the upper end of the driver’s side of the main hoop).
Rearward main hoop stays are OPTIONAL and should attach to the main chassis rails of the truck. The rear
stays may cross in an “X” design or may be linear (straight) in design. The angle of the rear stays should be
45-degrees. Rear stays may be bolted in-place using Grade 8 hardware. Any bolts used in the roll cage must
be a minimum of ½” diameter and Grade 8.
Roll cages are to be attached to the cab structure floor at a minimum four (4) locations. Additional
tabs, attaching the roll cage to various points of the cab are high recommended (e.g. to the
windshield A-pillars and door B-pillars), wherever possible. This greatly increases strength and
rigidity.
Cab floors, roofs and walls MUST remain stock. Joints, seams and wall structures may be
reinforced. Additional chassis-to-cab support struts may be added and may be tied into the cab
floor at the roll-cage mounting points. REGARDLESS, the roll cage must be directly connected
with comparable material used in fabricating the roll cage to the chassis in a minimum of 4 separate
locations. Two connections must be in front of the driver's feet and two rearward of the rearmost
position of the driver. If the operating pedal positions are forward of the centerline of the front
wheel assembly, an additional cross member must join the front outer foot of the A-pillar down tube
to the chassis. The cabin pivot point and/or the original cabin stiffening rail may be incorporated
into this member. It is permissible, and even recommended, to fit additional struts to the cage.
Racing seat sub-frames and attachments are required to be tied-into the main roll cage, rather than attached to
the cab floor.
All main hoops must have a single 3/16” inspection hole drilled in such a location as to allow a
Tech Inspector ample room for caliper measurement.
All welds should be of the highest quality possible. The requirements are a minimum. It is
permitted to fit extra elements or reinforcements in addition to the basic requirements.

3.3. Front and Rear Guards:
3.3.1. Guards must be fitted to the front and rear of the vehicle to prevent it from driving over the
top of "Armco" safety barriers, and to assist with "suspended tow" vehicle recovery. All guards
must be constructed of 2.0” OD x 0.120” (Wall Thickness) DOM tubing. The tube structure
may not be skinned and must remain open tubing. These guards must meet the following
specifications:
3.3.2. For the Front Guard Only: The front face (leading edge) of the guard must be vertical and
must not extend any further forward than six inches (6” or 150mm) than the front face of
the standard bumper. The highest edge of the guard must be in line with the highest point of
the standard bumper. (These are bumper guards, not cattle catchers!) The front bumper may
remain or be removed. The front guard must be attached directly to the chassis rails only, and
all the attachments must be forward of the complete front wheels. The front guard assembly
must extend at least 80% of the measured width of the vehicle but must not extend beyond the
widest point of the truck body.
3.3.3. For the Rear Guard Only: The rear face of the guard must be vertical. No part of the rear
guard may extend more than 6” (150mm) behind the end of the chassis rails. The highest point
of the rear guard must be level with top of the chassis rails at their rearmost point. Or, in other
words, the top of the rear guard must be on the same horizontal plane as the chassis frame rails.
The overall width of the rear guard must not exceed the centerline of the inside rear tire on
either side. The rear guard must be attached directly to the chassis rails only and all the
attachments must be rearward of the complete rear wheels.
3.3.4. Requirements for BOTH the Front and Rear Guards: The bottom, lowest edge of each guard
must be between 12” and 15”above the ground.
3.3.5. All exposed parts of the guards which are not part of the standard bumper must be made of
tubing.
3.3.6. The ends of all tubes must not be left exposed. Bottom tubes must be joined to top
tubes/bumper and there must be no sharp edges or exposed corners or angles.
3.3.7. Each guard must be able to withstand a load equal to the vehicle weight on the rear axle,
applied horizontally to the bottom tube, along the axis of the vehicle. It must also be capable of
supporting the weight of the rear end of the vehicle. These loads must not cause permanent
distortion of the guards.
3.4. Side Intrusion Guards:
3.4.1. All trucks shall be equipped with side intrusion bars. Assemblies must include at least two
(2) horizontal bars (2.0” OD x .120” wall or 2.0” square x .120” wall steel) placed no less than
on an 8” centerline (centerline of the top and bottom tube is 8” apart) and no greater than a 18”
centerline. Intersecting vertical support bars must be installed no less than measured, on
centerline, between 18” and 24” apart between each vertical tube.
3.4.2. Side Bar Guards: The side bar assemblies must be attached to the truck frame rails such that
they will not be dislodged during contact. The side bar assemblies may be one continuous
piece or comprised of multiple, independent sections or sub-assemblies. If multiple sections
are installed, a maximum of 4” of open space may exist between any two sections. Side bar

assemblies must be positioned so that the centerline of the furthest outboard tube(s) is(are) not
less than the widest measured point of the vehicle body and not greater than 2” than the widest
measured point of the vehicle body.
The length of side bar assemblies must extend to within 10” of the front and/or rear tire. All
terminating ends of the front assembly must be capped and must contain an intersecting vertical
support bar no more than 1” from the end of the tube.
3.4.2.1.
ChampTruck World Series

All side bars must be installed such that the bottom of the assembly is no less than 8” and no
more than 12” from the racing surface (ground line).
3.1.1.1. The side bar assemblies MUST be “skinned” in fiberglass or aluminum, and all bodywork is
to be securely affixed to the assembly.
3.1.1.1.
3.2. Additional Fasteners:
3.2.1. Vehicles with tilt cabs must have an additional device which bridges the normal tilt lock mechanism
and will prevent cab tilt. The weakest part of the device must be either one steel bolt or pin of at least
½” diameter or two steel bolts or pins of at least 3/8” diameter. Note : wire cables and/or chains are not
acceptable.
3.2.2. Hood/engine cover lock-down: Vehicles with an external/internal engine cover must be fitted with an
additional locking device, as well as the normal engine cover locking mechanism, to prevent the cover
from opening should the normal lock fail. These additional devices must be in the locked position while
the vehicle is on the circuit.
3.3. Driver's Seat:
3.3.1. Professional racing seats are required for all driver seats. All seats fitted must be firmly attached and
must not slide, tilt, hinge or fold.
3.3.2. The driver’s seat must be fixed and attached to the roll-cage by no less than four (4) points, using
minimum 3/8” Grade 8 hardware. All seats must be securely mounted to the roll-cage to avoid
separation during a crash. Seat sliders are NOT allowed.
3.3.3. The back of all driver's seats must extend in height to above the middle of driver’s helmet or higher.
3.3.4. Passenger seats are allowed but MUST be of the same specification and installation as the race
driver’s seat. Passenger seats must have an approved seat belt harness (see Section 3.4). No
passengers are allowed during any ChampTruck heat or podium race. Passengers may be
allowed by ChampTruck officials during practice sessions and/or specified ride-along sessions.
3.4. Five- or Six- or Seven-Point Harnesses:
3.4.1. All drivers in ChampTruck sanctioned events shall utilize a five, six or seven point restraint harness
system. A five-point harness is considered a minimum restraint system. Six or seven-point systems are
highly recommended. Harnesses may comprised be of 2” or 3” belts; HOWEVER, A 3” HARNESS IS
STRONGLY ADVISED. No “Y” shoulder belts are allowed.
3.4.2. All driver restraint systems shall meet SFI specification. The certification indicated by an SFI label
(http://www.sfifoundation.com/seatbelt.html) or FIA label must be present, including a clear Date
of Manufacture label or, in the case of FIA labels, Date of Expiration.
3.4.3. Any harness assembly found with an altered or counterfeit date shall be confiscated and not
returned… and the Team shall be banned from that event.
3.4.4. All driver restraint systems shall have a single point of locking closure and release and the driver shall
be able to fully release the harness with one hand.

www.champtruck.us.com
generally below conventional safety standards shall NOT be allowed for competition, as
designated at the sole, exclusive discretion of ChampTruck.
3.9.1.1. Driving suits MUST have a valid SFI label/patch and/or a valid FIA label/patch. NO SFI or
FIA LABEL/PATCH AND THE SUIT WILL NOT PASS GEAR INSPECTION.
Any suit or other driver gear found with an altered or counterfeit approval label or
certification shall be fined $1,000 and all driver gear shall be confiscated and not returned.
3.9.1.3. Used NASTRUCK or other pro-series pit crew suits that do not have a current SFI label/patch
shall NOT be allowed or approved… no matter whose team name is on the damn suit!
3.9.2. If using a single-layer SFI 3.2/A1 or 3.2/A3 suit, the driver must also wear fire-retardant SFI- or FIAcertified long-johns and under-shirt. Multilayer suits rated SFI 3.2/A5 or higher are highly
recommended and may be worn without long-johns or under-wear.
3.9.2.1. Fire-retardant FIA- or SFI-rated socks, racing gloves and shoes are also required with all
single and/or multi-layer suits.
3.9.3. Head socks (balaclava) are strongly encouraged but are not mandatory. Balaclavas of accepted fire
resistant material are required for drivers with beards, or (male or female) drivers with long-hair that is
not fully covered by their helmet. Hair protruding from beneath a driver’s helmet shall be completely
covered by fire resistant material. As an alternative to balaclavas, a full helmet skirt of accepted fire
resistant material may be used. Double-layer balaclavas are recommended. If balaclavas are used
voluntarily, they shall be of accepted fire resistant material.
3.9.1.2.
3.9.4. All driver’s safety apparel must be generally clean and in serviceable condition. Any item
showing excessive wear, fraying, tears, holes, grease/oil stains or other conditions that are
deemed by ChampTruck Officials to reduce or negate the item’s designed effectiveness will not
pass tech.
3.9.5. All driver suits MUST have a ChampTruck patch sewn or applied to the front chest
area, in a prominent location. Patches are included in all Team Registration packets from
ChampTruck.
3.10.
Annual Gear Check: ChampTruck utilizes an Annual Gear Inspection process. Initial inspections
will require ALL driver gear to be presented for inspection. Approved gear will be issued an Annual
Inspection helmet sticker. Any driver found to be using non-approved or unsafe replacement gear AFTER
completing the annual inspection will be fined $1.000.
3.11. Batteries:
3.11.1. All batteries MUST be sealed units.
3.11.1.1. Optima Batteries is a Series Sponsor and two (2) OPTIMA Group 31 batteries will be
made available by Optima to ChampTruck teams free-of-charge. It is recommended that

Morgan Hill, CA 95038
www.champtruck.us.com
and the ignition circuit. The control or key for both switches should be red; the OFF position should be
clearly indicated. All electrical cut-off switches shall be identified by the international lightning bolt symbol.
(Decals available at ChampTruck Tech Inspection.)
3.12.1. All trucks shall have ONE Master Electrical Kill (Cut-off) Switch mounted in the center console
area of the cockpit, accessible to and by the driver while he/she is secured in the driving seat by all
seat belts and harnesses.
3.12.2. All trucks shall have ONE Master Electrical Kill (Cut-off) Switch mounted between the frame
rails in a location that extends anywhere between the front of the rear axle housing forward to the
back of the cab. This switch may also be mounted to the back off the cab exterior wall.
Regardless, the exterior Kill Switch MUST be in an accessible location that may be reached from
either side of the truck, which is furthermore well-marked and identifiable.
3.12.3. ALL trucks (with either electronic or mechanical engine systems) MUST be equipped with an
Air Knife (air intake shut off device). This device can be operated either electrically or
mechanically. The means to engage the device or system must be located inside the cockpit
accessible to and by the driver while he/she is secured in the driving seat by all seat belts and
harnesses. The device or system must also have a second means to engage the device or system by
a track worker from outside of the truck. Therefore, the location of the Air Knife device or
system MUST be in relative close proximity to the exterior Master Kill Switch. The Air Knife
device or system must be clearly marked for use of operation (i.e. Pull, Push, Turn to Engage).
3.12.3.1. While not an endorsement or recommendation, ChampTruck did locate what looks like
a very adaptable unit from www.dirtyhookerdiesel.com 3 different sizes 4,5 & 6 inch
3.12.4. International decal identification of the location of the switch is required.
3.12.5. The positive terminal of the Kill Switch is to be treated as a “hot” terminal and must also be insulated.
3.13. Fuel Tanks and Fuel Cell:
3.13.1. All saddle tanks and/or stock fuel tanks MUST be removed.
3.13.2. All trucks shall utilize a minimum 22-gallon/maximum 40-gallon deformable bladder-style fuel cell
with FIA SPEC FT3 or FIA SPEC FT3.5 or FIA SPEC FT5 or NASTRUCK 2000 approval. Fuel cells
are to be securely mounted behind the cab and between the frame rails. All fuel lines must be steel
braided (e.g. - Aeroquip) lines and may not pass through the truck cab. (Heat and Podium Races are
35-minute events and/or 50-mile distances; however, multiple pace and/or caution flag laps may
extend that time/distance. Therefore teams are cautioned to install a fuel cell that meets their
truck’s fuel requirements for a 45-50 minute event and/or 70 mile range.)
3.13.3. ALL FUEL CELLS MUST BE ENCLOSED IN A METAL CANISTER / ENCLOSURE. NO
EXCEPTIONS!
3.13.4. Rotary-molded (plastic) fuel tanks are NOT allowed as fuel cells.

3.14.4. Wheel balance weights: It is prohibited to have removable balance weights fitted on any wheel.
Balance weights must be welded or screwed onto the rim.
3.15. Tow Hooks: All trucks must be equipped with suitable front and rear STEEL tow-hooks, constructed and
installed so that they are capable of withstanding the tension required to extract your truck from a sand-pit
when you’ve buried the axles and have sand up to the frame. Minimum 4” diameter inside opening;
minimum 3/4” thick material. No tow hook may project beyond the front or rear bumpers or guards of the
truck. Front and rear bumper guards (Section 3.3) may suffice for this application, depending on design and
materials used.
3.16. Glass: All glass (other than windshield glass) is to be removed from the vehicle.
3.16.1. Windshields: OE windshields may, optionally, be removed. Stock replacement windshields
or polycarbonate (Lexan) windscreens are acceptable. Plexiglas plastic is not acceptable.
3.16.1.1. All polycarbonate windscreens and/or windshields MUST have a uniform thickness
of at least 3/16”.
3.16.1.2. Cracked windshields will be carefully scrutinized. Cracks that are deemed a visual
hazard to the driver or have the potential of losing their structural integrity upon impact
by any object shall not pass Safety & Tech inspection, requiring removal prior
competition.
3.16.1.3. All trucks with polycarbonate front windshields or windscreens are required to
have a minimum of one (1)front safety strap installed on the INSIDE of the cockpit to
support the windshield and keep it from collapsing into the interior of the vehicle.
3.16.1.4. Straps shall be 1 inch wide x 1/8 inch thick (aluminum or steel), and shall be bolted
or riveted to the chassis or roll-cage at the top and bottom of the strap.
3.16.1.5. The straps cannot be any further than 1” from contact with the front windshield.
3.16.2. ChampTruck races in the rain, so maintaining both a windshield wiper and defogging
system is highly advised.
3.17.
Side Windows:
3.17.1. No covering of any type (other than a required and approved window net) is allowed in
place of the driver’s side window.
3.17.2. Passenger-side window openings may be covered in Lexan or plexiglas; however, any
replacement must be clear (no tinting).

ChampTruck World Series – 2015 Rules
All significant, earth-shattering changes or additions are highlighted in RED.
Rules
Rev. 15-1.3.1
4. Authorized (and un-authorized) Modifications… and Other Stuff You’ll Need To Know
4.1. First, we’re serious about keeping the cost of racing inexpensive. Don’t screw-up the show by
bringing some low mile, polished chrome, disc-brake, automatic, truck-stop queen to the track. And
don’t build the heck out of it trying to be a NASTRUCK wannabe… remember, this is
ChampTruck.
4.1.1. If the rules don’t say you can change it, then don’t. Keep it all stock.
4.1.2. THE MAXIMUM SPEED OF ANY TRUCK, ON ANY TRACK, SHALL BE 100 MPH.
This maximum can be achieved in any number of ways: driver control (stop laughing), rear-end
and/or differential gear ratio, electronic speed control device, etc. The choice of speed control
is free and open; HOWEVER, truck speed will be measured by radar at each event and trucks
in excess of 100 MPH will be Black Flagged. ChampTruck will develop chicanes and other
track design tools to assist in maintaining this safety maximum; however, meeting this rule and
requirement rests exclusively with each truck and team.
4.2. Tires:
4.2.1. Tires: Tire selection shall be designated by ChampTruck. The series will utilize a spec tire
for all events.
4.3. Driver Systems:
4.3.1. Driver comfort & information items are open (i.e. - steering wheel, removable steering wheel
adapter, shifter, gauges, pedals, cool suits, drinking systems, vents, heaters, wipers, radio
communications, etc.)
4.4. Engine and Driveline: The engine and its ancillaries may only be modified within the limitations
of the following regulations. It is permitted, unless specifically disallowed by these regulations, for
internal engine components to be substituted by alternative components sourced from the same
engine manufacturer, provided this does not change the engine capacity. All the components must
be commercially available from the manufacturer (with parts number(s)).
4.4.1. Fuel System: The fuel system must use an FIA-approved fuel cell. Thereafter, all fuel
system components are open PROVIDED that all components are commercially available and
remain as manufactured; no custom manufactured components or assemblies (fuel rails,
injectors, metering devices, pumps, etc.) and no modifications of commercially manufactured
parts. It’s either stock or commercially available aftermarket bolt-on.
4.4.2. Camshaft timing and profile may be modified but valve lift must remain as standard.
4.4.3. Lubrication oil sumps may be baffled internally, but the standard sump casing (oil pan) must
be retained. Fuel and oil coolers may be fitted within the periphery of the bodywork.
4.4.4. Radiators may be enlargened or replaced with alternate units.
4.4.5. Turbochargers and intercoolers are free; however, all trucks will be required to lease and
install a serialized ChampTruck 70mm air-intake restrictor sleeve.
ChampTruck World Series
P.O. Box 1541
Morgan Hill, CA 95038
www.champtruck.us.com
4.4.5.1.
The installation of the restrictor must be
as close to the inlet of turbocharger as possible.
The restrictor shall be inserted between two airintake hose sections.
4.4.5.2.
During Tech Inspection and any postrace impound inspection, a team member will
remove the leading section of hose to the
restrictor for physical plug-test diameter
inspection and air leakage test. Upon
completion of the inspection and test, the team
member will replace the hose in the presence of
a ChampTruck official who will apply a
ChampTruck tamper-proof seal.
4.4.5.3.
Teams are required to LEASE a
restrictor from ChumpCar. The restrictor
remains the property of ChampTruck. The lease
fee is a $200 security deposit. The restrictor
will remain in the team’s possession until such
time as the team leaves the series or ChumpCar
collects all restrictors.
4.4.5.4.
To order a Turbo Restrictor or to get additional specifications, contact Kent
Merkle ([email protected]) and refer to part #CT10019.
4.4.5.5.
At such time as the turbo restrictor is returned to ChampTruck, the restrictor
will be inspected and, provided the restrictor remains unaltered, undamaged and in

5. SAFETY, TECHNICAL and ENGINEERING INSPECTIONS:
5.1. Inspection Process: The ChampTruck World Series’ safety and technical inspections do not
ensure, certify or warrant that the vehicle or any part thereof is safe or totally and ultimately
compliant with all applicable rules. The inspection does not in any way change the fact that the
driver, crew members, and the vehicle owner are ultimately responsible for the safety and operation
of the vehicle and equipment. By conducting an inspection, ChampTruck International LLC and its
directors, officers, sponsors, employees, and officials make no representation, warranties, or
assurances that the inspection, including any review of any written information, will detect every or
any problem with a vehicle or a drivers’ equipment or clothing, detect every problem with rule
compliance, or prevent bodily injury, death or personal monetary damage.
5.2. One team member must accompany the vehicle through all inspections. The accompanying
individual shall act as the representative of the team and shall be authorized to act for all team
members
5.2.1. Safety Inspection: To ensure safety and conformity to all ChampTruck rules, all trucks will
be inspected by a qualified Safety Inspector for required safety items and adherence to the
safety requirements of the ChampTruck Competition Rules (CTCR).

5.4. Protest Rule: If your team is cheating, driving like an ass, or generally screwing-up the show and
it’s blatantly noticeable, you’ll probably have your truck or team protested. Here’s how the protest
system works:
5.4.1. At each ChampTruck event, the Team Captain (and ONLY the Team Captain) has the ability
to file a vote of protest with the Chief Steward regarding any truck/team in the event.

Captain feels the offending truck/team has committed; those being a rules infraction or
actions which are contrary to the spirit of ChampTruck.
5.4.1.2. The protest must include a $250 filing fee. If the protest is upheld, the Team Captain
filing the protest will receive $150 back and $100 is donated to charity. If the protest is
not upheld, the entire $250 filing fee is donated to charity.
5.4.2. Protest petitions may be submitted to the ChampTruck Tech Inspection desk any time prior
to the checkered flag of the Podium Race. Protests shall NOT remain anonymous. If you feel
that strongly about accusing someone, then you will be identified.

or determine, including but not limited to, the need to conduct the partial or full disassembly of
any assembly, system or component for legality.
5.5.3. Any vehicle found to be illegal during post-race impound and inspection MAY be DQ’d.
5.5.4. Upon the close of impound, all race results and standings are final.

ChampTruck World Series ® – 2015 Rules
All significant, earth-shattering changes or additions are highlighted in RED.
Rules
Rev. 15-1.3.1
8. RULES OF THE ROAD and RULES OF PIT LANE
8.1. On-track (including Pit-Lane) Driving Infractions – On-track driving infractions have
always been and will continue to be reported to the Chief Steward (or Race Control) by a
corner worker, track worker, pit lane Marshal or ChampTruck staffer. Infractions are
recorded and weighed by severity and accumulation. Multiple infractions (of the same or
varying types) accrue and are compiled by the Steward for penalty assessment.
8.1.1. Now… before you get all pissed-off because you got a 7 minute penalty, take a deep breath
and calmly ask the Black Flag Marshal “WHY” you got the extra time. You may be surprised
to learn that you accrued 4 contacts and 3 spins over the course of the event. We don’t just
make this stuff up…
8.1.2. Clarification: a single, serious infraction by a driver/team may result in the removal and
expulsion of the entire team – at the discretion of the Chief Steward.
8.2. Black Flag Use and Penalties.
8.2.1. The Chief Steward will use his/her discretion if and/or when to apply a Black Flag for the
following driver (on-track) incidents and/or infractions, based on the frequency and/or severity
of the infraction:
 Multiple Four-off / Multiple Spins
 Blocking or Unsafe / Incomplete Pass
 Over-driving / Unsafe Driving
 Contact of ANY Kind
8.2.1. The Chief Steward is REQUIRED to issue a Black Flag for the following driver (on-track)
incidents and/or infractions, regardless of whether the infraction is a first offense:
 Intentional course cutting: continuous two- or four-off
 Unsafe course entry / re-entry (incl. disregard for blend lines)
 Excessive speed / unsafe driving in pit lane and/or paddock area
 Repeated blocking and/or hazardous driving
 Unsafe and/or overly-aggressive driving that places other trucks at-risk
 Any action that places an event worker or spectator at risk
 Intentional contact
 Unintentional contact resulting from negligence, carelessness, unsafe passing or lack of
control
 Contact with any course barrier (incl. k-wall, tire-wall, barrel, course marker and/or
assemblage of cones demarcating the course boundaries
8.2.2 Penalties – The following are actions that may be taken against any driver and/or team for ANY
of the infractions listed above in Sections 8.2:
 Warning / furled Black Flag

8.3. On-Track Driver Conduct
8.3.1. It is the responsibility of all drivers to avoid physical contact between trucks on the race
track.
8.3.1.1. All competitors have a right to “racing room” on the marked racing surface. “Racing
room” shall be generally defined as sufficient space on the marked racing surface so as to
allow a competitor to maintain control of his/her truck in close quarters, under racing
conditions.
8.3.2. The responsibility for the decision to pass another truck and to accomplish that pass
safely rests with the overtaking driver. The driver that is about to be overtaken has the
responsibility to be aware that he or she is about to be passed, give hand-signals and shall not
impede the overtaking truck.
8.3.2.1. The driver being overtaken should, at all times, remain on the racing line unless
the truck is impaired and is unable to maintain an adequate racing speed.
8.3.2.2. The driver being overtaken shall not block. Any driver who fails to make use of
their rear view mirror, or who appears to be blocking another truck seeking a pass, may be
black flagged and/or penalized.
8.3.2.3. It is the responsibility of the overtaking truck to prepare for, plan and execute a
FULL and COMPLETE safe pass. The definition of a full and complete pass is when
the overtaking truck has extended a lead of approximately one truck length ahead of
the vehicle being passed.
8.4. Stopping on a Course; Accepting Assistance:
8.4.1. If a driver is forced to stop his or her truck on the course, he or she shall make every effort to
place the vehicle in such position that it will not be a danger or obstruction to other
competitors, course workers or themselves.
8.4.2. Drivers stopping on course shall stay in their truck with their seat belts firmly engaged and
helmet in-place until they are instructed by a corner worker or other race official to either leave
their vehicle or await a tow.
RULES OF PIT LANE
8.5. Pit and/or Paddock Area:
8.5.1. The Supplementary Regulations for an event shall designate a paddock area and a “hot pit” area,
which may be the same or may be separate areas.
8.5.2. While in the “hot pit” (wherever designated), each truck entered in the event must have ready a
minimum of one (1) each:

8.5.2.1.
8.5.2.2.
Ten (10) pound dry chemical fire extinguisher having a minimum UL 60 BC or ABC rating
Ten (10) pound bag of grease-sweep, kitty-litter or other absorbitant for oil leaks and/or fuel
spillage in their fuel storage area. (Having a broom is a good idea, too!)
8.5.2.3. A suitable fuel and/or liquid catch pan
8.5.3. There is no sharing of the aforementioned safety equipment between trucks or teams. Any truck not
having a suitable 10 LB fire bottle – AND -- 10 LBs of grease-sweep or absorbitant – AND – an
approved fuel catch pan in their pit stall will NOT BE ALLOWED TO FUEL THEIR TRUCK or
will be stopped from further fueling until adequate safety equipment is present.
8.5.4. All compressed air bottles/gas cylinders, with a pressure in excess of 200 psi, shall have a protective
structure around their gauges and valves when in the pit/grid/pre-grid areas.
8.5.5. Unless restricted by the track, certain motorized paddock support vehicles are allowed (but NOT 3wheelers, mini-bikes, motorcycles, etc.). Golf carts and other utility carts are allowed PROVIDED that
all drivers are 16 years or older and have a State-issued driver’s license. Unsafe driving or use of a golf
cart or 4-wheeler may result in a penalty or even disqualification of the team associated with the cart, at
the discretion of the Chief Steward or as dictated to ChampCar by the track.
8.5.5.1. All used or junk parts too big for a normal trash can, empty fuel drums and anything else you
brought with you must be taken out by you.
8.5.6. All refueling must be done in the area designated by the Supplemental Rules once the race
has started. Teams not refueling in the appropriate location, as identified in the supplemental
rules, will be penalized one race session, at the discretion of the Chief Steward. NO
ELECTRIC PUMPS ARE ALLOWED WITH ANY FUEL SYSTEM OR FUEL
TRANSFER. All pumps used to transfer any fuel shall be mechanical pumps. As protection
from static electricity and fuel ignition, there shall be NO metal parts or components attached to
the last ten (10) inches of any fuel hose; hose ends to be non-conductive.
8.5.6.1. Specialized nozzles (aircraft) or “Dry Breaks” systems are NOT allowed for refueling
any truck.
8.5.7. Un-attended and cleaned fuel or oil spills are punishable by an additional race session
penalty, at the discretion of the Chief Steward.
8.5.8. Working Beneath Any Vehicle:
8.5.8.1. Anytime and anywhere a vehicle is elevated, such that any tire is not touching the
ground, to allow work beneath the vehicle, the vehicle MUST be supported by an
appropriate jack-stand.

FLAGS
The names and descriptions of flags below are used in road racing to convey
commands or information to drivers. Flags will be obeyed immediately and without
question.
Meaning of Each Flag:
A. GREEN FLAG (Solid Green)
The race is under way the instant the green flag is displayed. This flag will normally be
in possession of the Starter only, and will not ordinarily be displayed at the flag stations
around the course. The Green Flag will be pulled once all trucks have passed through
the Start/Finish line at the start of the race and will not normally be shown again during
the race.
B. YELLOW FLAG (Solid Yellow)
The Yellow Flag may be displayed in various ways, each configuration is used to
convey a different message:
 STANDING YELLOW – A potentially dangerous situation exists off or on the
racing surface. Slow down to 70% of race speed. No passing from the time you
see the flag until you pass the danger area AND can see the next manned flag
station that is NOT displaying a yellow flag. Note that there may be several
consecutive stations displaying the Yellow Flag.
 WAVING YELLOW FLAG – A specific dangerous situation exists on or near the
racing line. IT IS REQUIRED that all trucks slow down to 50% of racing speed
and be prepared to stop. No passing from the time you see the flag until you
pass the danger area AND can see the next manned flag station that is NOT
displaying a yellow flag.
 SINGLE OR DOUBLE YELLOW, DISPLAYED AT ALL STATIONS — Indicates
that the entire course is under a yellow condition. SLOW DOWN, NO
PASSING.
Under all Yellow Flag conditions, trucks may carefully pass emergency vehicles once
they are given a wave-by from the emergency vehicle. Trucks may also pass other
trucks that are disabled or otherwise cannot keep the pace, as signified by a raised
arm on the part of the driver of the off-pace truck. If a Pace Truck is dispatched on
course, remain single-file behind the Pace Truck – no passing.
C. PASSING FLAG (Blue with Diagonal Yellow Stripe)
A faster truck is approaching you. This flag may be displayed standing or waving,
depending upon the speed with which you are being overtaken. Check your mirrors
and hold your line. Point the faster truck by. Again, HOLD YOUR LINE.
ChampTruck World Series P.O. Box 1541 Morgan Hill, CA 95038

D. SURFACE CONDITION FLAG (Yellow with Vertical Red Stripes)
(aka the Oil Flag or Debris Flag) Caution – fluids, auto parts, dirt-rocks and/or other
potentially dangerous materials are present on the racing surface. This flag will be
shown for several laps to make racers aware of the location of the impacted surface
condition. After 2-3 laps, the flag will be pulled even if the condition still exists.
E. WHITE FLAG (Solid White)
Caution – you are approaching a slow moving emergency vehicle or race truck (e.g.,
with
mechanical trouble) on the racing surface. This flag will be shown standing for at least
one flag stations prior to the vehicle. Do not pass an Emergency Vehicle moving on
the track unless the driver or an emergency crew member waves you by or the
emergency vehicle has left the racing surface to attend to a disabled truck. You may
CAREFULLY pass an EV that is stationary. You may pass any other truck on course;
however, be aware that White Flags are usually attributed to an emergency/yellow flag
situation.
F. BLACK FLAG (Solid Black)
 CLOSED BLACK FLAG (Furled) Pointed or shaken at a truck (optionally,
accompanied by a number board indicating the truck number): WARNING! You
have been observed driving in an unsafe and/or improper manner. If the action
continues, you will be given an open Black Flag.
 OPEN BLACK FLAG – This flag may be displayed from any station on course
and may be accompanied by a number board indicating the truck number: DO
NOT TAKE ANOTHER LAP. Proceed directly to the Pit-In station for further
instructions.
 OPEN BLACK, DISPLAYED AT ALL STATIONS – The race has been stopped.
All trucks will proceed directly to the pit lane. NO PASSING. Note: No work will
be done to the truck, including fueling, until after the race is re-started.
G. MECHANICAL BLACK FLAG (aka Meatball (Black with Orange Ball))
There is something mechanically wrong with your truck. Slow down; hand-up to alert
other drivers. Proceed to the Pit-In station for further information.
H. CHECKERED FLAG (Black and White Checks)
The race is over. Reduce speed and proceed to the pits at the end of the cool-down
lap.
I. RED FLAG (Solid Red)
Displayed at each flag station and on the Starter’s Stand; an extremely dangerous
condition exists. THE RACE HAS BEEN STOPPED. Come to an immediate,
controlled (safe) stop at the side of the race track. Do not pass. Stay in your truck with
your helmet and harness in-place. When directed by a ChampTruck or Race Official,
ChampTruck World Series P.O. Box 1541 Morgan Hill, CA 95038
www.champtrruck.us.com
proceed cautiously to the pits in the order in which you came to a stop. Note: No work
will be done to the truck, including fueling, until after the race is re-started
LIGHTS INSTEAD OF FLAGS
ChampTruck competes in races that extend into the night, and we also hold events
conducted in low-light or reduced visibility. During such conditions, ChampTruck uses
a series of SLS units (Safety Light System) to convey flagging/race operation
messages to drivers.
 YELLOW LIGHT (Solid) – To be treated as a waiving Yellow Flag. A
dangerous situation exists ahead, often on a dark track. Slow down to 50% of
racing speed and be prepared to stop. No passing from the time you see the
light until you pass the danger area AND you can see the next SLS that is NOT
displaying the yellow light.
 RED LIGHT (Solid) – To be treated as a Red Flag. An extremely dangerous
condition exists. THE RACE HAS BEEN STOPPED. Come to an immediate,
controlled (safe) stop at the side of the race track. Do not pass. Leave your
helmet and harness in-place. Leave your taillights on or apply the brake to
illuminate your brake lights (so other trucks, corner workers or emergency
vehicles know where you are). When released by a ChampTruck or Race
Official, proceed cautiously to the pits in the order in which you came to a stop.
Note: No work will be done to the truck, including fueling, until after the race is
re-started
 The “BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL” (Solid) – A spotlight with a blue lens is used to
signal a Black Flag condition (both Full Black and Mechanical Black). The light
will normally be issued at the Start/Finish line and will be pointed directly into the
cockpit of the offending truck. Proceed directly to the Pit-In station for further
instructions.
