D G White Prize
David Gerald White, a student of Toowoomba State High School, died at the age of 16. For many
years, the prize in his memory was donated by his parents, who were regular attendees of Award
Nights. The citation accompanying the prize reads: “David Gerald White … had great moral
courage and the instincts of a true gentleman.”

DG Savage
Gwen Savage, a distinguished past student of the school, later joined its teaching ranks as a
member of the English and Social Science departments. She was loved and respected by
students and staff for her devotion to the profession and the breadth and depth of her scholarship.
She was a champion of environmental causes. At the peak of her career, she was stricken with
cancer. Her long fight against the disease was a inspiration to those who knew her.

Lloyd Prize for Service to Governance through Representation on the School Council
This award is presented to the students who represented their peers on the Toowoomba State
High School Council.

Toni Fallon BA LLB (Hons.) Memorial Award
Toni Fallon was a student at Toowoomba State High School before studying at university for an
Arts-Law degree which she obtained with Honours. However, she was killed in an accident on the
threshold of a promising career. In 1992, a group of her school friends presented a book in her
honour. In 1993, the Fallon family generously decided to make the Toni Fallon, B.A. LLB (Hons.)
Memorial Prize a permanent award at Awards Night. The inaugural winner was Jo-Ann Harradine
in 1993.

Cohoe Prizes
Mr E A Cohoe was an Alderman of the Toowoomba City Council and President of the P & C
Association during the school’s relocation from Margaret St to Mt Lofty. He opened the Assembly
Hall in 1963 and is commemorated by a bronze plaque on the western side of the entry door.

Wright Prize
Mr Murray Wright was the Principal of Toowoomba State High School at the time of the
establishment of the Wilsonton Campus of Toowoomba State High School. New in 2005, the
Wright Prize recognizes student leadership at Wilsonton Campus.

Crossman Prize
Roley Crossman was teacher at the school during its transition from
Margaret Street to Mt Lofty, and was appointed to the role of supervisor
at the present site during the changeover. A strong but very likeable
disciplinarian, he was well known for his practice of refusing to use the
microphone to address parades in the quadrangle. He could be heard
in every corner! Unfortunately, he died shortly after his retirement. The
first winner of this award was Deborah Dietz in 1976.

Hill Prize
Mr R L Hill was president of the P & C during the principalship of Mr P D Wilkes. Under his
leadership, the P & C funded the building of the grandstand on the main oval. Mr Hill died on the
same day it was declared open in October 1967.
