Many of you are probably tired of shoveling the snow - the novelty having worn off three months ago. Thoughts of camping and the fellowship it brings will help to get us through the rest of the “winter weather”. Be sure to attend Spring OPA, hosted by the TriCounty Travellers. They’ve planned a good time with lots of tasty “vittles”. We still need chairs for the following positions: Historian Hospitality Photography, Property, and Youth. There are people who have done this job in the past and can tutor new volunteers. If you are interested or know of someone who would be perfect, please tell any member of the board. We can continue to make OPA a wonderful experience with your help. Be sure to check the Hear Ye pages in the OPAction. There are many campouts planned for the upcoming season. Come camp with us. The couple taking their place is known to us all, so congratulations to Carl and Linda Wood. At the present, it is time to hold the National Election for the position of National President. Ballots will be mailed out to everyone during the first part of March. Voting is to be held from March 13 - April 15, 2014. You can vote in one of two ways: by a mail-in ballot or on-line. If you do not receive your ballot by March 10, 2014, please go to the web site to contact the National office by email or phone…both of which are listed there. Something new this year at Campvention is the State/Provincial Annual Photo Book Contest. For more information look in the March issue of Camping Today which you will receive in the next week or so. In addition, you can join several webinars for more information. Hugh and Camy Hicks had a webinar with all the Provincial Directors of Region 7 on February 22, 2014. This enabled everyone to get together easily without incurring expense. The National Board will be holding the Winter Board Meeting this way as well, this month. Hopefully this will be a great communication tool. Don’t forget...now is the time of year to introduce your friends and neighbours to Cadet Program with camping season coming. Don’t leave your friends at home all alone! 613-924-2868 [email protected] Web Site Diane Proper [email protected] Youth Vacant A reminder of Campvention 2014 - Moonlight in Vermont - being held in Essex Junction, Vermont. Get your registration in soon so the committee can make appropriate plans for the number attending. It’s not that far away, so come and enjoy. Finally, there is the Regional Campout for Region 7 at NET Camping in Vineland Ontario, August 11 - 15, 2014. Plans are underway, but we could still use your help and your registrations. This is a new site for us that has a lot of great things to do, and the lot sizes are very generous. Ralph & Linda Deline 3 CANADIAN REGIONAL DIRECTOR’S REPORT The start of camping season is just around the corner here, as long as about three feet of snow melts first. We are pretty anxious to get the motorhome out of storage and to head to Darlington for our first camping trip of the year. On a National basis, there have been many staff changes throughout the various states and provinces at all levels. In our Canadian Region, we have two first year Provincial Directors, Ralph and Lind Deline from Ontario and Gilles and Barb Dore of Nova Scotia. We are also pleased to recognize that Carl and Lynda Wood have volunteered to become the new Chairmen for the National FCRV Scholarship Program. It’s great to see more of our friends get involved with various programs in our organization. FCRV National had decided to replace the traditional Winter Board Meeting with a series of on line “webinars” and we have already participated in a very successful webinar with Shari Weber and the rest of the Regional Directors. We were able to get through a complete agenda in about 90 minutes and the cost to the organization was basically zero. We, as Regional Directors, used the web meeting facility to have a training session with all the Provincial Directors in Canada, including Rick and Paula Stobbart in Alberta. The system works very well if you have a set of earphones with a built in microphone. There is a test session that you can use on your way into the program to ensure your equipment is working properly. Camy made use of the phone access which gives you the very same experience, but by using a phone line. There is no charge for the internet meeting except you will pay the long distance charges if you use your phone line. In our case we have unlimited long distance so it made no difference. The web site is available for any FCRV group to use for on line meetings and there is an exact description of how to set up the meeting available for first time users. We want to remind everyone of Campvention 2014 in Essex Junction Vermont and to invite anyone who would like to travel on a 2 day mini caravan to Vermont from here in Ontario. We will be leaving on the 4th July, arriving in Essex Junction of the 5th of July. We also want to encourage support for the upcoming Regional Campout to be held in Vineland, Ontario. This is a very beautiful campground with lots of facilities on site and also very close to Niagara Falls and all the attractions there. We need to support this regional campout and those attending will be able to leave on Friday the 15th of August and head straight to the Sarnia 4 T’s Western Campout that starts on the 15th. We wish you all a safe and happy Camping season in 2014. The dates for this year’s cleanup are April 25 to 27th. Each year, FCRV members assist the park staff to prepare for the camping season by cleaning up the sites, repairing structures or fencing, painting or other related activities. The gates open at noon on Friday. The day is spent gathering, setting up our units and fellowship. A hospitality and campfire is always planned for the first night. Saturday is spent doing the activities listed above; lunch is provided by the Fire Flies. Following the day’s work, we once again gather for hospitality, campfire and fellowship. Sunday we will work until noon, followed by a spiritual service and a chapter meeting. For doing this cleanup, the park provides each unit with a weekend free camping after Labour Day. This has always been a fun weekend as much as it is a work weekend. The Fire Flies look forward to seeing each of you there!. Registration forms are available at either the OPA web site or the Ontario Fire Flies web site; ontariofireflies.ca SPRING CLEANUP Bruce County Campers once again are going to kick-off their 2014 camping season by camping at Saugeen Bluff, just off Bruce County Road # 3 north of Paisley. This is a fun weekend where our rigs are taken out of moth balls (if you haven’t been south for the winter) and we limber up our muscles by helping to get the Park in shape for the summer season. There are a variety of tasks to perform, which include raking sites, picking up branches, cleaning eave troughs, repairing signs and of course painting where needed. It’s not all work, there is time to socialize and enjoy pot-luck on the Saturday evening. We invite members from other Chapters to join us for the weekend May 2-4. ($10 per unit for the weekend) You can call president Shirley Thomas at 519-396-1310 for further details. WANDERING CANADIANS In February, members attended the 17th Annual Grand River Watershed Heritage Day Workshop and Celebration at the Six Nations Polytechnic in Ohsweken. The topic this year was "Crossroads of Conflict, Path of Peace". It was based on the role the natives played in the War of 1812 along the River. The club attends these events each year. They are in different cities along the Grand and new subjects each year are discussed. Members have been gathering and making lap robes for Sonya Smye to take to the Retiree Rally in Canton, Texas. This year we have donated over 60 lap robes. We are busy now planning some maple syrup outings and our annual Pitch-In Litter Pickup in April. Our club will no longer saves stamps, cell phones and ink cartridges. Thanks to all who participated. Our club members are extremely enthusiastic about delivering another successful OPA campout for our fellow FCRV campers. Our theme is “Join Your Circle of Friends on Safari” and we are brimming with ideas for a wild and woolly weekend of fun. Some of the activities we are looking forward to are: Tours to the Ostrich Farm, youth making animal masks, use of the pool and ice rink, crafts and seminars, a free meal, and quality entertainment. 14 11 th CANADIAN REGIONAL CAMPOUT August 10-15, 2014 Summer is coming, and that means REGIONAL. August 10-15, 2014, Ontario is hosting the Regional Campout for Region 7 at NET Camping in Vineland Ontario, near St. Catharine’s, Ontario. This is a full service campground, with full hookups, including 20, 30 and 50 amps at each site. This campground is very nice, and for us, a new area. There are walking trails, a lake for boating and paddle boats (which can be rented), swimming pools and a games room. We have a building to use. There are new washrooms right by our camping area, and even barbeques set up if you need one. There are a lot of things to do in the region, and…we’re only about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls! However, around the campground, we are out of the tourist traffic. We hope to have our activities in the morning so you can visit the area in the afternoon…a winery tour is in the works now with, hopefully, a bus to take us all. Registration forms can be found here in OPAction or on line. There are still a few jobs to be filled, and the committee would like to see some chapters take on hospitalities. For more information on the campground, go to www.netcampingresort.com. For more information on hospitalities, or to offer help, please contact Ralph and Linda Deline (519354-0958 [email protected]) , or Hugh and Camy Hicks (519-747-5125 [email protected]). Come and join us for a week of visiting, fun and friendship. 15 11th FCRV Canadian Regional Campout August 10-15, 2014 “Niagara Escape” NET Camping Resort 2325 Regional Rd. 24 , Vineland, Ontario L0R 2C0, www.netcampingresort.com Registration Fees $240 Per Family Enregistrement $240 par famille Sunday Aug 10 – Friday Aug 15/2014 Canadian Funds Please Late Registration after 01 July, 2014 Additional $15 Total Fees for 10-15 Aug required with your registration Confirmations will be sent by e-mail where possible Registration PAYABLE TO: Dimanche le 10 août – Vendredi le 15 août,2014 Argent Canadien S.V.P.
