This event is done in cooperation with the Westbrook Recreation Department Park and Recreation The Benefits are Endless… Page 2 Youth Programs Fall Travel Soccer Fall Soccer is for the competitive, skilled child who wishes to compete in the SECJSA league. Practices will begin in August and the season will start in September. Practices during the school week will be at night with games on the weekend. Fall Soccer registrations must be in by July 1, 2012. An additional $15. late fee will be accessed to everyone who signs up after that date. Due to league requirements, no registrations will be accepted after July 15, 2012. Try-outs may be held if large numbers occur during registrations. Location: Wren Park or Daisy Time: Practice times and days will vary with all teams Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays Ages: Boys & Girls 9–14 years old Fee: $55/ one child, $90/two children, $130 for three (additional $15. fee if late) Cartwheels etc... This special program is only being offered through Westbrook Recreation with Shoreline Gymnastics in Old Saybrook! The goal is to use the fundamentals of gymnastics, and basic strength and conditioning skills to enhance the overall fitness and well being of children, all while keeping fun in mind! Our inflatables will be set up inside and out and we will make good use of the pits and trampolines in our air conditioned facility. We highly recommend this program for any child who likes to run, climb, jump, and play. Leotards are recommended or shorts and a tuck- in shirt. Also, bring a bathing suit. Red Cross When I’m In Charge Safety Course This unique course is for all boys and girls, 8 and older who are ever home alone. The course will cover all the safety concerns parents have when their children are by themselves. They will cover areas such as arriving home, responsibilities, phone and internet safety and many others. This course is limited in size, so please register soon. Track & Field Instructional Camp Novice or experienced athletes will be introduced to all the different events involved with track & field meet. Afterwards the athletes will be grouped into the track & field events they wish to learn. If they’re unsure, they will be encouraged to try various events such as jumping, hurdles, throwing events and running. All athletes will be made welcome to try as many events as they wish to learn. Each night will have 3 sessions, which are approximately 45 minutes each with a 10 minute breaks in between for snacks juice and water. Outstanding area coaches/teachers will be instructing at each area of their own expertise. These areas include sprinting, middle distance, and distance running, hurdles, high, long and triple jumping, as well as shot putting, discus and javelin throwing. Warm down and stretching routines will take place at the conclusion of each night. Each day will also include a fun activity such as an ice cream sundae or pizza night. Baseball fundamentals will be taught through appropriate drills, techniques and various games. We will provide an atmosphere of fun and good sportsmanship for all campers. Every child will leave this camp with better baseball skills and knowledge. Your child will enjoy these age appropriate camps and will learn to love our national game. A camp with a history of delivering safe, fun and affordable programming? Our Little Folks camp is just what you’ re looking for. We provide 8 weeks of quality programming with our experienced director and staff. Your child will have Arts & Crafts, Story Time, Games, Music, Playground Time and one day at the Westbrook Beach. This program is done Monday thru Friday, from 9:00 - 12:00 noon and all registrations are for the full week. Let our energetic staff entertain your child this summer. Each registration should include a minimum of two weeks payment to hold spots for other weeks. All families who cancel camp after June 1 will be charged $25. per week/per child. We provide 9 weeks of fun and excitement right at Daisy Ingraham Elementary School. Activities include Arts & Crafts, Archery, Drama, Nature, Swimming and Field Trips. Your child will visit interesting places, learn new games and make new friends. All fees are based on a full week schedule and are not eligible to pro-rating. Each week MUST be paid in full two weeks prior to the start of each session so your child may attend Day Camp. Location: Daisy Ingraham School Times: Before Camp / 7:30 - 9:00 AM. The week after camp is always stressful because there are very few programs or options for your children. This program is not part of our summer day camp. Some of our summer camp staff will entertain and supervise children at the Westbrook Library community center room. Children will have Hiking, Sports, Arts & Crafts and do other group activities. Due to limited staffing, they will not have a field trip or a day at the beach. This new program is limited to the first 35 children registered. There are onstage and backstage roles for everyone, singing, dancing, acting, creating sets, assembling costumes - all in just 10 days! These shows are abridged and fully-licensed with a performance on the final Friday of each production. Disney’s Aladdin Jr. Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! All of your favorite characters are here in Disney’s Aladdin Jr., a stage adaptation of the Disney hit film. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides, spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” will certainly make this musical a favorite for many years to come! All campers should be experienced field hockey players who wish to improve their ability and skills. Professional coaches will provide instruction demonstrating new drills, techniques and strategies. FAME Jr. FAME has come from the hit motion pictures, television series and international stage success. FAME is nothing short of a global phenomenon. After the 4th of July, we will be showing PG movies every Friday night at the town beach. This totally free program will allow families an opportunity to spend some quality time together. The courts, rackets and nets have been re-sized for children 10 and under who are learning the game. Children 8 & under use a small court, which is half the length and width of a regular court. The class size has a minimum of 4 and a target maximum of 8 players. Tuesday nights will be for Intermediates and will involve balls, bands and hand weights. Thursday nights will be for Beginners and will cover mat Pilates. You also have the option of signing up for both classes. Pilates class will help your spinal and neck alignment, abdominal tightening and strength training. You will build muscle tone and flexibility, as you progress at your own pace. Our instructor, Daya Soudan is a certified Yoga, Pilates and Dance Instructor who has worked with students of all ages. You will learn to open your mind and let go of the past and leave all the baggage behind. Enjoy the gentle soothing style of Hatha Yoga.
