Youth Programs
Fall Travel Soccer
Fall Soccer is for the competitive, skilled child who wishes to
compete in the SECJSA league. Practices will begin in August
and the season will start in September. Practices during the
school week will be at night with games on the weekend. Fall
Soccer registrations must be in by July 1, 2012. An additional
$15. late fee will be accessed to everyone who signs up after that
date. Due to league requirements, no registrations will be
accepted after July 15, 2012. Try-outs may be held if large
numbers occur during registrations.

This special program is only being offered through Westbrook
Recreation with Shoreline Gymnastics in Old Saybrook! The
goal is to use the fundamentals of gymnastics, and basic strength
and conditioning skills to enhance the overall fitness and well
being of children, all while keeping fun in mind! Our inflatables
will be set up inside and out and we will make good use of the
pits and trampolines in our air conditioned facility. We highly
recommend this program for any child who likes to run, climb,
jump, and play. Leotards are recommended or shorts and a
tuck- in shirt. Also, bring a bathing suit. Please call Westbrook

Safety Course
This unique course is for all boys and girls, 8 and older who are
ever home alone. The course will cover all the safety concerns
parents have when their children are by themselves. They will
cover areas such as arriving home, responsibilities, phone and
internet safety and many others. This course is limited in size, so
please register soon.

Track & Field
Instructional Camp
Novice or experienced athletes will be introduced to all the different events involved with track & field meet. Afterwards the
athletes will be grouped into the track & field events they wish
to learn. If they’re unsure, they will be encouraged to try various
events such as jumping, hurdles, throwing events and running.
All athletes will be made welcome to try as many events as they
wish to learn.
Each night will have 3 sessions, which are approximately 45
minutes each with a 10 minute breaks in between for snacks
juice and water. Outstanding area coaches/teachers will be
instructing at each area of their own expertise. These areas include sprinting, middle distance, and distance running, hurdles,
high, long and triple jumping, as well as shot putting, discus and
javelin throwing. Warm down and stretching routines will take
place at the conclusion of each night.
Each day will also include a fun activity such as an ice cream
sundae or pizza night. Awards and commemorative T-Shirts will
be presented at the conclusion of the final day of each week for

Youth Baseball Camp
Our camp will help your boy or girl, improve their overall baseball skills. Baseball fundamentals will be taught through appropriate drills, techniques and various games. We will provide an
atmosphere of fun and good sportsmanship for all campers. Every
child will leave this camp with better baseball skills and knowledge. Your child will enjoy these age appropriate camps and will
learn to love our national game. Jeff Riggs from “Between the
Lines” will help your child take their game to the next level!

Little Folks Summer Camp 2012
Are you looking for a camp program for your 3,4 or 5 year old
for this coming summer? A camp with a history of delivering
safe, fun and affordable programming? Our Little Folks camp
is just what you’ re looking for. We provide 8 weeks of quality
programming with our experienced director and staff. Your child
will have Arts & Crafts, Story Time, Games, Music, Playground
Time and one day at the Westbrook Beach. This program is done
Monday thru Friday, from 9:00 - 12:00 noon and all registrations
are for the full week. Let our energetic staff entertain your child
this summer. Each registration should include a minimum of two
weeks payment to hold spots for other weeks. All families who
cancel camp after June 1 will be charged $25. per week/per child.

Do you have a child between the ages of 12–15 years old? Are they
bored being home alone all summer long? We have a new summer camp geared specifically for teens. They will be doing tennis,
badminton, lacrosse, hiking, pillow polo, field trips, a beach day and
much more. Your child will be able to stay at camp from 9:00 – 5:00
PM, Monday through Fridays, at Westbrook Middle School. Please
register soon because space is very limited, at 20 children per week.

Summer Day Camp 2012
Looking for inexpensive, safe and quality summer childcare for
your children ages 5 to 11 years old? We provide 9 weeks of fun
and excitement right at Daisy Ingraham Elementary School.
Activities include Arts & Crafts, Archery, Drama, Nature,
Swimming and Field Trips. Your child will visit interesting
places, learn new games and make new friends. All fees are based
on a full week schedule and are not eligible to pro-rating. Each
week MUST be paid in full two weeks prior to the start of each
session so your child may attend Day Camp.

Each session of Summer Camp is limited to the first 75 children to enroll. We place all other children on a waiting list for
possible openings. Anyone who cancels camp after June 1, will

each week they cancel and all refunds will be done at the end
of the Summer Camp season. Each registration should include
a minimum of two weeks payment of Camp to hold a spot for

Hang Out Week
Parents have been asking for additional childcare for years. The
week after camp is always stressful because there are very few
programs or options for your children. This program is not part
of our summer day camp. Some of our summer camp staff will
entertain and supervise children at the Westbrook Library community center room. Children will have Hiking, Sports, Arts &
Crafts and do other group activities. Due to limited staffing, they
will not have a field trip or a day at the beach. This new program
is limited to the first 35 children registered.

Theater Camps
Our popular 2-week theater camps run in partnership with Community Music School give your child the opportunity to experience every aspect of staging a musical. There are onstage and
backstage roles for everyone, singing, dancing, acting, creating
sets, assembling costumes - all in just 10 days! These shows
are abridged and fully-licensed with a performance on the final
Friday of each production.
Disney’s Aladdin Jr.
Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! All of your favorite
characters are here in Disney’s Aladdin Jr., a stage adaptation
of the Disney hit film. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying
carpet rides, spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the
tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including “A
Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” will certainly make
this musical a favorite for many years to come!

This five-day field hockey camp is for girls from 8th - 12th

FAME Jr.
FAME has come from the hit motion pictures, television series
and international stage success. FAME is nothing short of a
global phenomenon. Set during the last years of New York City’s
celebrated High School for performing Arts on 46th Street
(1980-1984), FAME Jr. is bittersweet but ultimately inspiring
story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years
of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and
insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young
people today.

This basketball camp is challenging, educational and fun for all
boys and girls. Basketball fundamentals will be taught through
numerous drills and various games designed to help improve
your child’s game. The Slamma Jamma staff will provide an
atmosphere of good sportsmanship and fun! Both gyms at
Westbrook will be used to provide age appropriate instruction.

Summer Movies at the Beach Pilates for Beginners &
Intermediates
We finally have a program for the whole family to enjoy. After
the 4th of July, we will be showing PG movies every Friday night
at the town beach. This totally free program will allow families
an opportunity to spend some quality time together. Bring a chair
or blanket some popcorn and enjoy a wonderful experience right
next to the water.

The USTA 10 & Under Tennis program using the Quick Start
format provides a unique opportunity for younger players to be
introduced to the game. The courts, rackets and nets have been
re-sized for children 10 and under who are learning the game.
Children 8 & under use a small court, which is half the length
and width of a regular court. The class size has a minimum of 4
and a target maximum of 8 players.

Our Pilates class is so large and popular that we have gone to
teaching two different nights. Tuesday nights will be for Intermediates and will involve balls, bands and hand weights. Thursday
nights will be for Beginners and will cover mat Pilates. You also
have the option of signing up for both classes. Pilates class will
help your spinal and neck alignment, abdominal tightening and
strength training. You will build muscle tone and flexibility, as
you progress at your own pace. Our instructor, Daya Soudan is
a certified Yoga, Pilates and Dance Instructor who has worked
with students of all ages. Our qualified instructor will lead you
through the class and finish with a deep, relaxing cool down

Belly Dance
Come and learn the ancient art of Belly Dancing. This art form
has been used for entertainment, exercise, artistic expression and

to experience the fun and female bonding.

and night classes are available to better serve your schedule.

Beginner Yoga
This class is designed for new beginners to intermediate students.
Yoga is a magical fitness program that helps you balance emotions and brings you peace of mind. The attention will be to the
physical body through stretching, flexibility, posture and awareness of energy flow. Anasuya Stein has been teaching Hatha Yoga
through Westbrook Recreation since 1985. You will learn to open
your mind and let go of the past and leave all the baggage behind.
Enjoy the gentle soothing style of Hatha Yoga.

Qigong
Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates
physical posture, breathing techniques and focused intention.
The gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be easily
adapted, even for the physically challenged and can be practiced by all age groups. The gentle rhythmic movements of
Qigong, can reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and
can enhance the immune system. People do Qigong to maintain
health, heal their bodies, calm their minds and reconnect with
their spirit.

Westbrook Family Day
Tenth Anniversary
You are officially invited to our tenth Westbrook Family Day! Bring the children, grandparents and all your friends
for an afternoon of old fashion fun. There will be clowns, rides, food, entertainment and lots of activities for the
children. The Board of Recreation wants everyone to participate in this All-American, traditional, annual event.
With the help of all the other organizations and groups in town, we hope to show how much pride we have in our
community. Come and celebrate with all of us and enjoy an afternoon of fun that is absolutely FREE!!!!!
