" The view is superb, the summit is especially magnificent. From here, we can see the entire coast…It stretches endlessly on and reminds me of the backgrounds of those fantastic Leonardo da Vinci landscapes " (George Sand). " Fidelis legi semper oliva " " Faithful to the law and always to olives. " The Lords of Ollioules consider themselves to be the barons of this city whose name and arms have been inspired by olive trees that can be found in its territory in abundance ". LA SEYNE-SUR-MER LE REVEST-LES-EAUX Overlooking the Mediterranean and the Bay of Toulon, this seaside resort is located in the midst of a magnificent wooded massif, know as Cap Sicié. Here, you will discover an impressive military past and the legendary holiday quarters, as you follow in the footsteps of famous persons such as Michel Pacha, George Sand and Napoleon along the Tamaris Corniche. Calmly perched on a rocky headland, this typical village, curled up at the foot of Mount Caume, is dominated by a 13th-century medieval tower illuminated at nightfall and which day in, day out, continues to faithfully ‘guard’ this village. This tower also makes an ideal starting point for many walks and from its top, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the exquisitely laid-out lake whose clear waters are fed by a reappearance, the Ragas source. " Life is very easy-going and pleasant here and that’s on account of a small, nearby city called La Seyne " (George Sand) " Semper Mandrianus vigil " " Saint Mandrier continues to guard today " 6 "Eugene Baboulene, painter from the contemporary Provencal school took his inspiration from the village of Le Revest, called the " Switzerland of the Var ". For this reason, he earned the reputation of being the " most contemplative of the figurative painters. " " SAINT-MANDRIER-SUR-MER TOULON This charming peninsula has preserved the authentic soul of its village. Nestled near the port, it houses numerous "pointus", pointedbowed fishing boats. Natural beaches bordering along the coastal footpath have been developed for the pleasure of walkers. Toulon, a historic city, with the charm of the Provencal actor Raimu, the hero of Pagnol’s famous "Trilogy" is also well-known thanks to its military port. Nature and cultural walking itineraries start at the beginning of its symbolic mountain, the Faron. Take the unique Mediterranean cable-car ride to the top of Mount Faron and enjoy the impressive view from where you will dominate the most beautiful bay of Europe and its city. Toulon is also a city accessible to all and as such has been awarded the "Tourism and disability" label in recognition of its tourist sites accessible to disabled people. " A city defended by Vauban is a city that is impregnable, a city attacked by Vauban is a city taken. " 7 LA VALETTE-DU-VAR CARQUEIRANNE Here you will find a happy valley and discover its classified mount : "the Coudon", a large rocky spur with a magnificent panoramic view over the Bay of Toulon and the Hyères islands. Following the water stream and the fountains, you will admire the numerous gardens. With its fine sandy beaches and sunny creeks, Carqueiranne constitutes a beautiful seaside resort characterized by a microclimate which is well-suited to the cultivation of flowers, especially the tulip, symbol of this city. Its woody massif remains majestically green, all-yearround, ‘carpeted’ as it is with Aleppo pines. " The Coudon uncaps and traces an opal line in the sky. The sea is pink, then the colour of lila with grey-pearl tones. The sky is made up of flocks of cherry-coloured clouds. " (George Sand) " When spring is coming, Carqueiranne is decorated by vast fields of flowers, the most beautiful colours, tulips. " LA GARDE LA CRAU The old Garde is an authentic Provencal city with a Roman chapel, streets with arcades and small shaded places. Here you also have the Magaud submarine footpath, designed for the discovery of the subaquatic fauna and flora! Snuggled up at feet of the Mount Fenouillet and nested on the Banks of Gapeau river, the city of La Crau knew how to preserve his Provençal authenticity. Situated between Hyères-les-Palmiers and Toulon, between hill and plain this charming city offers two very contrasted faces. One turned to the mount Fenouillet, and the other turned to a vast truck-farming and wine plain, for which the quality products and the reputation exceeds the department. Farming, horticulture and vine make today his wealth. It is an ideal destination for ecotourism with its numerous wine yards. One day, in this vast plain an idea germinated: The launch of the first kite festival “La Grau sous le vent”. " My village looks like villages found in Raphaël paintings, with red skies in the background and terraced rows on golden hillsides. " " Semper supra del " that can be translated from Latin as " that it always gives more " or always goes higher. 8 Mount Fenouillet « a little molehill » of Provence. LE PRADET HYÈRES-LES-PALMIERS This seaside resort has a multitude of attractions for outdoor fans including five beaches and natural creeks and seven kilometres inland from the coast, it can proudly boast of a lush green environment with the Colle Noire Mountain and lovely gardens. This pleasant little city is also endowed with a rich natural heritage including wine-growing domains and a "mining museum" that ranks among the five most beautiful mineralogical sites in the world. Throughout the centuries, this beautiful village has taken on a multi-facetted allure. Chic and so very British with its magnificent villas marked by the spirit of the Belle Epoque, it regains its medieval flair as soon as you step into the streets of the old town centre. Hyères benefits from an exceptional situation, with a subtropical climate favourable to the growth of lush vegetation and the islands of Port-Cros and Porquerolles off to a distance. The combination of a rocky coast and an exceptional body of water has made this the perfect venue for the hosting of some thirty national and international nautical events. It is actually here that thanks to the arrival of the first railroad lines in the 19th century that visitors discover, describe and paint the landscapes of our region. Tourism especially involves summer holiday-making and has lead to the creation of impressive hotels and magnificent villas with rooftop gardens to the south of the medieval city of Hyères-les-Palmiers. The personality of "enlightened" property developers such as Alexis Godillot or Joseph Tagnard have given a new look to this city, intensely linked to holidays thanks its exceptional climate. The history of the Var is intimately linked to wine growing. The Greeks were the first to plant vinestocks in Provence which make up the oldest wine-growing region of France. Our region is ideal for wines from Bandol and the Côtes de Provence thanks to the mild climate. When enjoying these wines as an aperitif or during a meal, these wines are always appreciated because they are the expression of a certain style of life, of regional products that represent the land, courageous men… Touring through wine-growing domains of the agglomeration, wine-sampling at wine-cellars, is not only a pleasure for your taste buds but will also be a visual pleasure as often the domains are located in the midst of a warm and colourful setting. It is also France’s leading oilproducing department taking into consideration the number of olive trees with make up nearly 22% of national plantations. The aroma and taste range of olive oil is quite extensive. This product type is influenced by the soil, the diversity of the olives and the extraction procedure. There are a wide variety of olives in the Var: - olives for oil - oils for confectionery: belgentiéroise, picholine, lucque - table olives: green or black, these are the same olives but harvested at different degrees of maturity. Some very old olive groves, dating back several centuries can even be visited, their owners literally open their doors to you, locally produced olive oil can be sampled and purchases made to suit your fancy. "A day without wine is a day without sunshine" as Louis Pasteur used to say. 56 A passion for the Provencal way of life Honey The oil trade was especially prosperous in the 19th century due to the exportation of olive oil. Please consult the brochure for a description of simple actions to be taken when mooring to protect the environment (distributed in tourist offices and the National Park of Port-Clos) and the master office of the harbours.
