Residential Christmas
Tree Collection
Burrtec will collect and recycle Christmas trees from single-family
residences. Please place your tree at curbside during the period
after Christmas (December 26, 2015 through January 8, 2016) on
your collection day. Trees 6’ and over need to be cut in half. Please
take all ornaments, lights, and metal stands off of the tree. Flocked
trees will not be recycled. They will be collected as trash. Flocked
trees 6’ and over need to be cut in half.
Winter Storm Weather
Storms with heavy rainfall may cause debris flows and
many other issues in our streets. In order to prevent
trash and recycling carts from adding to the issue
follow these guidelines:
1. Be aware of storm and windy weather forecasts.
Extra Holiday Trash
Approximately 80% of your holiday trash is recyclable. All gift boxes,
wrapping paper, greeting cards, and cardboard packaging are items
that may be placed in your recycling barrel. Burrtec will collect your
excess holiday trash and recyclables beginning December 26, 2015
through January 2, 2016. Place excess holiday trash/recyclables in
bags alongside your containers on your collection day.
New Item for Recycling- CARTONS!
We are now accepting cartons for recycling. This exciting addition to our
programs and services will allow our customers to recycle more!
What are cartons?
Cartons are the packaging for many products you can find at the store including
milk, juice, cream, egg substitutes, soy milk, soup, broth, and wine. They come
in two different types—the aseptic or shelf stable cartons found on store shelves
as well as the familiar gable-top, refrigerated cartons.
2. Be aware of potential storm water flows in and
around your property.
How do I recycle cartons?
Place empty cartons in your recycling bin.
3. Avoid placing carts and bulky items where flows
can create hazards. In swift moving waters, these
items can float and rush out into the street.
What happens to the cartons I recycle?
Cartons are sorted and baled at Burrtec’s Material
Recovery Facility. The bales of cartons are sold to paper
mills. Here, fiber in the cartons is converted into pulp,
which in turn is made into recycled paper products and
building materials.
4. Place trash and recyclables in bags and then in
carts. This will minimize spillage onto city streets.
If you have any questions, please contact our Customer
Service Department.
Why should I recycle cartons?
Cartons are made mainly from paper, plastic and some aluminium. All of which
are recyclable! Recycling cartons helps to save those resources, which is good
for our environment.
Lions Club… Special Eye Glasses Collection
According to the World Health Organization, 153 million people have uncorrected refractive errors (near-sightedness, far-sightedness
or astigmatism). Most of these vision impairments are quickly diagnosed and are easy to treat with corrective lenses.
Still, millions of people around the world are pushed deeper into poverty simply because they don’t have glasses. They can’t learn
because reading is difficult. They can’t work to the best of their ability because they can’t see clearly.
It costs Lions less than $0.08 to provide a pair of recycled eyeglasses and change someone’s life.
For children, clear vision means a better education, healthier development and a better quality of life. For adults, it means greater
employment opportunity and economic strength. For seniors, it means less dependence on others.
Lions Clubs collect millions of eyeglasses each year to address the need for glasses, making eyeglasses recycling one of the most
popular activities.
By donating glasses, you too can change someone’s life. Drop off your usable eye wear and give the gift of clearer vision. City staff
will be on hand to accept your donations on the next Community Clean-up Day.

Street Sweeping Schedule Change
Burrtec provides street sweeping services twice a month in order to assist the City of Rialto in maintaining clean streets and
improve the environment. This service is provided at no additional charge to residents in the City of Rialto. In order to improve
street sweeping, new street sweeping days and routes have been implemented. This change will take effect February 1, 2016. Please see map and new street sweeping day if your area has been affected by this change. For a map of the new street sweeping
schedule, please visit, http://www.rialtoca.gov.
Remember to move vehicles parked at the curb on your street sweeping day. It is also important for you to remind any service
providers at your home or business (gardener, pool cleaner, etc.) of the street sweeping schedule and that their vehicle cannot be
parked on the street.
Why clean the streets? The City of Rialto is responsible for implementing Best Management Practices to reduce the amount of
pollution reaching its storm drains which lead to the Santa Ana River and eventually the ocean. Regular street sweeping is one of
the most cost-effective Best Management Practices used to remove sediment, metals, petroleum products, litter and vegetation
which accumulate on streets and gutters. Keeping the streets and storm drains clear not only helps to mitigate water pollution, but
also reduces the likelihood of flooding during heavy rain. The City and Burrtec are committed to enhancing the community and the
environment for residents and businesses. Join us by participating in these efforts!
• Pick up litter when you see it outside of your trash and recycling barrels
• Do not blow green waste materials (leaves, grass clippings) into the street
• Participate in the City of Rialto’s Community Clean Up Days
• Do not allow automotive fluids to enter the gutter when servicing your vehicle
• Use your bulky item pick up service instead of leaving items to be scavenged at the curb
• Do not rinse paint from brushes or rollers into the gutter
• Report illegal dumping
• Use your trash, recycling and green waste barrels; do not allow materials to accumulate
• Report scavengers illegally taking materials from your barrels
• Sweep driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing them down
Questions on sweeping please call Burrtec at (909) 877-1596
