Gentlemen:
We are forwarding to you by express, one box containing
samples from the recent core drilling near Webster City,
Hamyjjojgu*ou^
Enclosed is the complete drill log of the
hoTe™which also shows the exact location and the elevation of
the ground surface.
Yours very truly,

Mr. L. W. Wood, Geologist
Iowa State Highway Commission
Ames, Iowa
Dear Mr. Wood:
Enclosed is our summary log of the core drill hole
put down by the State Highway Commission on the Punk
estate southeast of Webster City.
This log* I believe,
contains all of the pertinent data and is very little
condensed from our original notes, made at the time of
our microscopic study of the core* However, if you
wish a copy of the original notes, I will be glad to
send them to you.
You will notice that the whole section represented
by the core is placed in the Mississipplan but that no
further subdivisions are made. According to the earlier
workers, the top portion of the section should represent
St. Louis, but because of insufficient data I cannot be
sure to what depth the St. Louis extends and if the under*
lying Gilmore City is represented.
Before Dr. Trowbridge^ conference with you two
weeks ago, I told him that the report on the core would
be completed and the results sent to you within a few
days. When the difficulty of correlation arose, I was
planning a field trip into western Iowa and decided to
hold the report and do some field work on it.
However,
unfavorable weather conditions prevented me from collec-
ting all of the necessary data and rather than delay the
report longer, I am sending It to you with this rather
general correlation. I plan to do additional work on It
when weather conditions are more favorable and will let
you know of the results0
Very truly yours,
H. G« Hershey

Dear Sir:
We have received and wish to thank you for your letter
of December 13, enclosing your findings on the Hamilton County
drill core.
We will be pleased to have your furtheropinion
as to detailed correlations on this core based on field studies
when you have opportunity to make them. I believe that I have
already given you my opinion, that the limestone below 85.3
feet depth is Gilmore City, and the overlying beds St. Louis,
or possibly also ste. Genevieve.
Of our other drill cores which you have, we are now most
interested in the three from Adams County, and would appreciate
your report on them as soon as you have ooportunity to' examine
them.
Yours very truly,
I
W.
Wood
