The Transportation Careers Pathway at R.H.S. includes Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing and Automotive General Service Technician Both courses are articulated with San Bernardino Valley College After completing a course with a grade of B or higher and, if needed, passing an articulation exam, students will receive college credits at San Bernardino Valley College. Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing is aligned with I-CAR. I-CAR is the Collision Repair Industry Standard for Technician Training and Testing. Yes! Once you’ve completed the Basic Project you can bring in your own projects to school. Who pays for the materials? All materials needed for the Basic Project are provided by CRY-ROP. Materials for additional projects are purchased by the student. Can you match paint? Yes! ROP Auto Body has a complete SherwinAutomotive paint mixing system. Any factory color can be reproduced. The Stages of the Basic Project: Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing is an “In Demand” skill. According to the Occupational Information Network, “A combination of increasing driving population, increasing vehicle complexity and aging worker retirement indicates a continuing need for trained technicians.” The average salaries for Body Repair Technicians range from $30,000 to $100,000+ per year. Relocation opportunities are also excellent, as automotive technicians are needed nationwide. My car is wrecked – can I ‘pull it?’ Yes! Your CRY-ROP instructor is factory trained on E-Z Liner frame straighteners, and I-CAR certified. We will return your car to pre-accident condition. The objective of Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing is to prepare students for employment in: Collision Repair Shops, Auto Restoration Shops, and Paint Shops of any type while preparing them for post- secondary education. • • • • • Metal Finishing: using hand tools such as body files, hammer and dollies, picks and spoons to repair dented panels. Oxyacetylene torches are used to shrink stretched metal. Metal Repair: using hand and power tools such as grinders and sanders, spreaders and blocks. Cold fill is applied to the damaged panel to restore the original shape. Pre-paint prep: using air and hand tools such as DA and spray gun, blocks and masking, the panel is primed and prepared for painting. Painting: using a spray booth and assorted tools, Base Coat and then Clear Coat are applied so that the panel is returned to pre-accident condition. Color Sand and Buff: Using both hand and power, sanding and buffing tools, paint texture and gloss are matched to the undamaged panels on the vehicle.
