Cycling Awareness for Y4
Certificates were
awarded to all our year 4
pupils for successfully
completing level 1 of the
cycling proficiency
scheme. Once again we
were complimented on
the exemplary attitude
and attention displayed by
the children. Well done
boys!
Working Together to Benefit your Child:
Pupil Progress and
Parents Evening
Early Years Electronic
Learning Journey
Parents evening was held Wed 4th
March and incorporated a focused
book-look with the children. There
was an excellent turn out of over 90%
of families attending.
Parents of nursery and reception
children have been issued with a
memory pen on which we are
summarising highlights of their week in
school. We are calling this an
electronic learning journal: ELJ for
short!
Please remember to keep an eye on
your children’s progress through
accelerated reader and accelerated
maths. If you have any questions don’t
hesitate to get in touch with your
child’s teachers.
Reading targets are achievable with 20
mins daily reading 5 times a week at
home. Children who have struggled to
meet the points (quantity) target will
be given books of a lower level to
promote fluent reading next term.
The ELJs are in process now and this
developing system will enable school
and home to communicate and capture
key steps in the children’s
development.
Not only is monitoring the progress
good for us, it will be a lovely keepsake for your child. If you have ideas on
how to make it even better we’d be
happy to hear from you.
Welcome!

Children are welcome on a drop-in or regular basis. Any changes
to normal routine need to be communicated by a parent, either
in writing or by telephone. Please avoid emails as a method of
informing us of changes to home time arrangements, as we
cannot guarantee to read emails during the school day.
However, there is an on-line training program
which we recommend all families to complete.
It costs only £5 to register and takes about 30
minutes. On production of a completed
certificate we will reimburse this cost to you.

Comic Relief 2015
Lee Mitchinson raised £120 for
Comic Relief in school by
organising a quiz, a baking
competition and a poetry and
joke reading recital.
The children had a great time
discovering the joys of poetry as
they investigated the literature
available at Carlisle Library. The
teachers planned poetry work
including public speaking skills as
part of their teaching leading up
to the recital. And the children
themselves selected and prepared
appropriate poems to share with
the audience of mums, dads and
family.

Dance Festival
World book day books
The junior class, inspired by their Earth in space
work in science, produced a beautifully
choreographed dance echoing the movement of
the planets, the earth, sun and moon.
It was a creative piece and showed fantastic use
of space (pardon the pun!) and strong team
work as the children maintained a clear idea of
their own part amongst the performance as a
whole.
Presenting the work to a packed audience at
William Howard School may have been
daunting, but the children didn’t make it appear
so. Well done children and Mrs Stobbart.
