2007 1-7.qxd 29/6/07 14:54 Page 1 Winners’ Supplement produced by Pharmafocus 2007 1-7.qxd 29/6/07 14:54 Page 3 THE IPA BEST OF HEALTH AWARDS 2007 Welcome to IPA Best of Health Awards 2007 brochure On the 24th May, tasked with awarding marks to more than 250 individual pieces of work in 29 categories, it took all of us on the judging panel nine hours of deliberation, number crunching and (moderately heated) debate before we were finished! So thank you to my fellow judges for giving up their time and going about their duties so diligently, and thank you to the IPA for having the organisational know-how to make the day work so well. Last year, there were no Golds at all; this year, the judges felt only three entries met that exceptionally high standard. You will forgive those winning agencies if their grins of satisfaction happen to be especially wide. For me, what makes the Best of Health Awards so coveted is that they are about absolute standards rather than competition. We don’t hand out prizes on the basis of who’s first, second and third in any category, so work can’t win just by virtue of being the best of a bad bunch. Instead, we have looked at each entry on its own merits to decide whether it is strong enough to deserve recognition as among the best creative work ever done in healthcare. Another difference this year is the addition of two new categories to recognise work at a global level. The best entries proved that campaigns aimed at a global audience do not have to be based on lowest common denominator thinking, and a little creative agility can work wonders when adapting core campaigns for local audiences. There are more Silver and Bronze winners this year than last. This, I believe, reflects both the quality of work entered as well as our success in attracting more entries than ever. There are now two ‘Best of Show’ awards, one for ‘Healthcare Professional’ entries and one for ‘Consumer’ work. Quite simply, we wanted the chance to celebrate and reward the best of the best from both sides of our business. Anyone collecting a Best of Health Bronze, Silver or Gold can be justifiably proud of the achievement, as should anyone called up to receive one of the special awards for copywriting, art direction, illustration or photography. Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s awards for both their talent and efforts in raising the standards of healthcare advertising. These awards have a reputation for being hard to get. And they are. In particular, the Best of Health Gold Award has a reputation as one of the most elusive prizes in healthcare marketing.
