Welcome to pmTUC
companies at home and abroad. The infrastructure
includes several printing presses and well-equipped
laboratories to perform printed electronic device characterisation, paper and ink characterisation etc.
Dear prospective students,
Congratulations! We are delighted that you continue
the academic journey with us.
Printing is a key technology in diverse fields of our daily
life, including packaging, electronics, logistics etc. New
research areas are being opened to keep the technology inevitable to human life. One of the most promising diversifications is the convergence of print media to
electronic media. For several years now, printed electronics is booming, as it is the key technology to produce electronic devices in a cheaper way than conventional electronics by making use of highly productive
mass printing techniques. Realising this fact, printed
electronics has become one of the competencies of
the institute and has been included in the syllabus of
students as well. Printed displays, loudspeakers and
solar cells are some of the promising outcomes of this
electronic-print media convergence. Being an institute
focused on research, we contribute to the printing industry to make it more popular among common people
by exploiting different printing techniques, such as offset, flexography, gravure, screen and inkjet.
Globalisation in the industry results in international exchange of students. Due to the mere fact, the institute
provides a platform for aspiring students who want
to innovate in the printing industry in the future. We
offer one regular Master’s programme and one double degree Master’s programme in collaboration with
Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, one of
the leading engineering institutes in India. Both options
are full-time programmes. Students opting for the regular programme spend their whole period of study at
Chemnitz University, whereas double degree students
from Germany spend their 2nd semester in Manipal,
India, and the double degree students from MIT spend
their 3rd and 4th semester in Chemnitz. In addition to
the exchange of knowledge, the programme serves as
a source to experience a different culture.
Our institute is devoted to research with its ~30 scientists and collaborations with top research institutes and

The prospective students need to have basic technical knowledge in mechanical engineering as well as
electronics, so that they can follow the subjects taught
at pmTUC. Colloquiums, study tours and exhibition/
conference visits have been included in the curriculum
to provide an opportunity for students to get to know
the German printing industry and for networking with
the industry experts. The research-oriented study programme can help the students to increase their competence in the field of research.
We look forward to welcome you in Chemnitz!
Best wishes,

Academic system
The focus of German universities is on the academics
and is not business oriented. The education system
believes in imparting knowledge to all those who wish
to learn. To eliminate deterrent factors like finance, social status etc. the students do not have to bear the
burden of tuition fees as education at CUT is free.
Thus, the success of the study courses is entirely dependent on the ability of the student to study. To help
the student in gaining knowledge, guidance (academic
as well as non-academic fields) is provided if and
when needed by a very helpful faculty.
Mr. Deepak Panchal
Scientific Researcher at pmTUC
“Compared to the
West German university where I have
studied, the campus
of CUT is well organised. The lecture
hall, Mensa, sports
hall, student hostels
and library are not far
from each other and
a student can easily
access all the facilities. All the student hostels of
CUT have very
good parking facilities also.
Another fact is that
the interaction of professors with the students at CUT
is far better. One more attractive point for the international students to study at CUT is that there are no tuition fees. In West Germany, almost in every universities there is a tuition fee (around €500 per semester).”
Through the words of experienced......The answer is
there!
Mr. Paritosh Prayagi
Ex-student (regular)
Research and Development Engineer at Chromasens
GmbH, Konstanz
“I started my journey in Germany as a young and curious Bachelor’s student at the first ever international
student conference “Printing Future Days” at pmTUC.
I was very proud to represent my university on an international level. At the same time, I was confronted
by reality, surprised and shocked. I realised that the
world was on a different level altogether and I had a
lot to learn. After completing my Bachelor’s thesis at
Stora Enso GmbH, Chemnitz was my obvious choice
to study Master’s. My Printing Future Days experience
made me realise that Chemnitz was the place which
would be the “Mecca of Future in Printing Industry”.
International outlook, but yet very traditional German
education, state-of-the-art/world-class facilities, leadership in research, a student job and expert guidance
are the highlights of pmTUC. The Master’s programme
at pmTUC is multi-faceted and a rare opportunity for
young graduates looking to secure their future in print
media and allied fields. My Master’s thesis was in
cooperation with Chromasens GmbH; an innovative
technology leader in camera-based inspection and
imaging systems on “Characterization of CCD line
sensor for applications in inline optical density measurement and colour estimation”. I am convinced and
confident as a pmTUC graduate to work in any competent atmosphere worldwide!”

• Career
Why pmTUC?
opportunities
In contrast to many countries, the “career placement
system” is not common in Germany. It is the sole responsibility of the student to find a job, but the institute
guides or advices the students, if needed. As you can
read from the student comments, building a career is
an achievable task. The job offers from the industry
are published on pmTUC homepage and notice board.
Refer to www.tu-chemnitz.de/career-service also.

“I joined the double degree course in August 2009,
and came to Chemnitz in the year 2010, September.
For me, as a Bachelor’s student at Manipal University
(2005-2009, Department of Printing and Media Engineering) knowing about the course was punctuating
to my thought due to my interest in printed electronics and also the willingness to pursue the same in the
mere future as a researcher. Framework for the course
was interesting with respect to applied science and I
could feel that the research which we were doing had
a long-term benefit with
large area prospective. I had a wonderful
experience
working
with high precision
laboratory printing and
characterization equipment as an assistant
and also as Master’s
thesis student. The
third semester course was totally researchoriented with a lot of field trip
excursions, which
were always fascinating to me. My Master’s thesis was
done on the topic “A methodical approach towards
inkjet printing of dielectric structures”. This not only
helped me in accomplishing my thesis work but also
I came in contact with a lot of guest scientists. I would
like to accomplish my doctorate degree during the period of my employment.”
Mr. Chaitanya Bapat
Ex-student (regular)
Scientific Researcher at pmTUC
“When opting for a university in the field of printing,
the first thing that came to my mind was: it has to be a
German university, since
Germany is well-known
for its expertise in printing technology. Since I
was interested in the field
of printed electronics, the
first choice was Chemnitz
University of Technology.
It is one of the most reputed institutes with regard
to printing technology all
over Europe”.

•
Eligibility
Students possessing B.Sc./B.Tech. Print and Media
Technology or other technical degrees are eligible to
apply. If the applicants do not have a graduate degree in Print and Media Technology, the examination board
of the study programme takes the final decision regarding eligibility. The Master’s programme is taught in
English, so proficiency in English language is a must.
German language skills are not required. For more details visit www.pmmaster.de.
•
Admission
Regular programme - Prospective students have to
apply via uniassist. The admission process details can
be found at www.uniassist.de. You need to pay for the
online service. You will get an admission letter, once all
internal procedures are completed.
The application deadlines of uniassist are given below:
Semester
Deadline
Winter
15th July
Summer 15th January
The admission process may take up to 15 weeks, so
please apply accordingly.
Double degree programme – You don’t need to apply
via uniassist. You will receive the necessary application forms from the responsible personnel at pmTUC.
Fill in the details as soon as possible and send the form
to the correspondence address.
•
Visa
Regular students - The visa procedures may vary
from country to country. It is not possible to provide
general information on that. Information on necessary
application documents and processing time can be
provided by the respective German consulate of your
home country. Follow the rules and regulations in your
country.
Double degree students – The first and foremost
thing is to apply at the right time. We would recommend to apply at the beginning of June, so that if any
problem occurs during processing, you will have the
time to solve it. Please keep in mind that the winter
term starts in the first or second week of October. If
you need to apply for visa in June, you must collect
the necessary documents required from the department just after your second semester exams in May.
You need some documents from pmTUC, which you
will get through the department for visa application
-4-
[e.g. Letter of Confirmation, Letter of Residence (only
if you plan to stay in a hostel), Admission Letter, Letter of Scholarship Confirmation (if any) etc.]. According
to your place of residence you can choose German
Embassy - New Delhi or German Consulate General
- Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore or Chennai. You may
also visit www.india.diplo.de. German visa applications
can be processed through VFS Global Services Pvt.
Ltd. Visit www.vfs-germany.co.in for further details. It
is better to contact the nearest VFS office before applying for visa, so that they can provide you the list of
documents required as per the present rules. Biometric photos (note the biometric photo specifications on
above websites) are one of the most important requirements for visa. Carry some extra biometric photos with
you when travelling to Germany, so that you don’t need
to take them in Chemnitz for the requirements immediately after your arrival.
Double degree students need some other
documents too for visa processing.
Passport - If you don’t have a passport yet, submit an
application to the nearest passport office for issuing of
the same. Students at MIT, Manipal, can also apply for
passport through the university.
Loan – Only if you need to finance your stay by taking a loan.
Insurance – It is compulsory to have a valid insurance
during your stay in Germany. The insurance policy
type/plan/coverage/period options are up to you. “Student Travel Insurance“ policies normally cover health
as well as travel insurance. General insurance companies like Bajaj Allianz, Reliance etc. are examples. You
can also take a German health insurance prior to registration at the university. Please note that a German
health insurance usually covers more treatments than
Indian health insurances, even though it is a bit more
expensive. For details visit FAQ of www.pmmaster.de.
Bank account – It is very likely that the German
consulate asks you to open a German bank account (blocked account) with sufficient amount. (Around €650/month are required, minus scholarship
amount if applicable; adds up to around 5 lakhs for one
year, considering €1≈ Rs. 60) to finance your stay in
Germany. The account usually has to be opened from
India.
Flight itinerary (Destination airport) – Frankfurt and
Munich are the popular destination airports. The closest airports to Chemnitz are Leipzig/Halle and Dresden. If you are able to get a cheap connection flight to
one of these airports, the train trip to Chemnitz will be
much shorter and cost less.
•
Housing
On campus (university hostels) – Chemnitz University provides hostels for students at reasonable rates.
Visit www.tu-chemnitz.de/stuwe for the details on different hostels and booking procedures. As you see
on the above website, hostels are equipped with hot
plates for cooking. In some hostels, an oven is provided as well. You can either bring the utensils (with flat
base as you are provided with a hot plate and not a gas
stove), like pressure cooker, or you may get them from
“Material Bureau” of the Student Buddy Programme.
Else you can buy them from shops. Cooking by yourself might reduce the living expenses.
Following are the websites which may help you to find
private accommodation (includes information on availability of temporary accommodation in case of any
problems in booking the hostel room/apartments):

Mr. Chaitanya Bapat
Scientific Researcher at pmTUC
“Staying together with Germans in one house/flat has
its own advantages and disadvantages. On the one
hand it might be quite difficult to adjust, but on the
other hand it is also a new experience. I like to look at
it as another form of education. I learnt a lot about the
culture, the way of living and habits of the Germans.”

Mr. Deep Prakash
Scientific Assistant at pmTUC
“Though it is helpful for a
long-term stay in Germany,
lack of interaction with international students, cultural
rules and regulations etc.
are some disadvantages of
staying outside university
hostels.”

• Student
Off campus (rented apartments) – You can also
rent a flat (single/shared and furnished/unfurnished).
You get shared flats ranging from €150 to maximum
of €500. Shared flat is one of the best ways to reduce
the costs of living. If you choose an unfurnished flat, for
the first month, the cost per person may be quite high
(~ €200 minimum) as you need to purchase the necessary furniture. Visit www.cawg.de and www.ggg.de for
the details of flats available. You can also find advertisements of flats and furniture on the notice boards of
the university library, administration office etc. Second
hand furniture is available at shops like A&V (www.
gelbeseiten.de). Visit www.study-in-chemnitz.com
(Living) for more information on renting a flat. -5-
Buddy Programme
This is an organisation “for and by” the students of
Chemnitz University. After registering yourself on the
website below, the programme appoints a local student from the university to guide you through the first
few days. He/she could pick you up from the railway
station, arrange to collect your hostel keys if you arrive on a holiday or during non-office hours, register at
the city and university, etc. This will make the first few
days easier for you. The people of Student Buddy Programme organise an “orientation week” at the beginning of the semester. You can get an overall idea about
main university buildings and the important things to
be done before the semester starts. They provide information to get an overall impression of Chemnitz
also. Visit www.tu-chemnitz.de/international/incoming/
patenprogramm for further details.
Mr. Yuvaraju Vaikuntaraju
Double degree student (WS 2011/2012)
“My student buddy
Ms. Anna Nike is
very much caring,
supportive and my
primary instructor.
She helped me in
many primary registering processes
and
was
keen
enough to make
me understand the
glimpse of German
culture, which assisted me
in setting up my
smooth living in a foreign
place. She also took
me in and around Chemnitz and demonstrated few
resourceful places. Her advice was very helpful and
gave me a new perspective on available opportunities for staying and travelling around Germany. We
also celebrated my birthday together and exchanged
few gifts. Especially the exploration of the Chemnitz
Christmas market with her is the most remarkable experience. I am fortunate to get such a great friend and
thankful to Patenprogramm and Chemnitz University
for assigning her to guide me.”

ters of their study. You can start or continue your language studies either at the university or at off-campus
institutions (e.g. Volkshochschule, www.vhs-chemnitz.
de). The former is offered for free, whereas the latter
has fixed course fees. Registration details for the language courses offered at the university are given in
section “Student life” of this guide. If you plan to stay in
Germany longer after graduation, you should be fluent
in German. See what the experts say:
Mr. Paritosh Prayagi
Research and Development Engineer at Chromasens
GmbH, Konstanz
“In Germany, German language is
the key to integrate
into German society apart from basic
communication with
people/bureaucrats
etc. German helped
me a lot in connecting
with people around
and making industry
contacts.
Breaking
the language barrier makes
things
very
easy. When you work in the
industry, there is
something called a work permit (Arbeitserlaubnis),
which is needed from the BAZ (German Work Agency). Getting a permit, as I had heard from a few nonGerman speaking colleagues, is the most complicated
bureaucratic task. When I applied for a work permit,
the person on the counter in the foreigners office was
surprised by the fact that I could speak German. My
work permit took 2 working days and I had no problems or even questions regarding my work contract.
At Chromasens, although everyone speaks English,
the internal meetings, presentations, protocols and
documentation is completely in German. Hence, I had
a chance to have good discussions with colleagues,
get involved in company activities and converse freely.
I strongly recommend every student to learn German.”

Learning German
It is recommended to learn at least the basics of German language in your home country for a smooth
start in Chemnitz. Double degree students can either
join the course offered at MIT, Manipal or off-campus
courses. You can also join the preparatory German
language and culture class, which is offered twice a
year by the International Office (IUZ) together with
Zentrum für Fremdsprachen (ZFS) before the new semester starts, i.e. in September and March. It costs
around €45, which includes all course material and
a field trip. Visit www.tu-chemnitz.de/international/incoming/deutschkurse/sprachkurs for more details.

Scientific Researcher at pmTUC
“I had to learn German before I came to Germany,
since it was a prerequisite for the M.Sc. course during
my time. But learning German has been very useful
to me to communicate with the local people wherever
I go. Communication becomes easier, too, in places
like shopping malls, grocery stores, banks and other
everyday places. One can keep up with the local news,
know more about the local people, culture and one can
easily make small talk on buses, trains etc.”

Others
Cash – It is advisable to carry some cash (€400 to maximum €1000) for the initial payments to be done just after
arrival. For instance, if you want to buy something from the airport, make a call, buy train tickets to Chemnitz,
payment of hostel rent and deposit, buy some food from the shops etc. This is because opening an account in a
bank (or activating the account if you have already opened the account from your home country) and withdrawal
of money would take some time. It is very likely that for the first few months you have to spend the ready cash
from your pocket. You can bring the money as cash, traveller’s cheques etc. or use international travel cards.
Medicine – It is advisable to carry medicines prescribed to you by your doctor. Do not forget to carry the prescription along with you.
Miscellaneous – Don’t forget to bring with you: Universal adaptor (in Germany/Europe 2 pin sockets are used,
but you can buy them for ~ €12), network cable, winter clothes (to keep you warm at the airport and during your
journey to Chemnitz right after arrival), food for the first days (need only if you come on holidays), some typical
spices for cooking from your home country (preferably in a sealed package).
Customs – Kindly refer to the latest custom regulations of Germany prior to your travel for a safe journey.
Arrival at airport
You need to travel by train for about 5 hours to reach Chemnitz if you choose to fly to Frankfurt or Munich. If you
arrive at Leipzig/Halle or Dresden airport, train journey takes ~1hr. Your final destination is Chemnitz main railway
station (Hauptbahnhof). You just come out of the station and catch tram 2/bus 51 to reach the hostels. If you have
to change the train during your trip, please pay attention that you have enough time to change the platforms with
your heavy luggage when buying the tickets!! A 15-30 minutes gap between trains is advisable.
You can either book the tickets online (payment via
credit card) or buy them from the DB (Deutsche
Bahn) counter, called “Reisezentrum”, once you
reach here. DB is the official rail transport company of Germany. Officers over there usually speak
English. You can also purchase the tickets from
the ticket machines by your own (available at most
train stations). Visit www.bahn.de for further information about timetables, prices and special offers,
like weekend tickets, group tickets, bahncards etc. If
you buy a weekend ticket (with that you can only use
RB/RE/IRE trains), it may take much more time than
with the express trains (ICE/IC).

to www.tu-chemnitz.de/pm (Academic papers) to take
part in the ongoing projects.
If you decide to do it outside the university, you have
to define your area of interest and search companies
accordingly by your own. It is advisable to start searching one semester early. Refer to www.tu-chemnitz.de/
pm (Institute/Jobs & Careers) for internship and thesis
offers from industry or consult the staff for getting some
industry contacts.
Language and sport course registration – If you
wish to join any language or sport course (including fitness programmes) offered by the university, you have
to register at the beginning of each semester. Language courses are offered (basic level to higher levels)
for free, but you need to pay fees for sport courses. For
language course details and registration (via KuVes),
visit www.tu-chemnitz.de/sprachenzentrum and for
sport courses visit www.tu-chemnitz.de/usz. Visit the
websites before the semester starts, so that you can
find the registration period. It is advisable to do it at
the very beginning of the registration time as seats are
limited. The venue of courses can be found from the
respective links. If you are considered a good candidate by a company,
you will be asked for a telephonic or face-to-face interview, for which the basic knowledge in the chosen area
of interest is required. Before confirming a project with
a company, you need to inform the pmTUC, providing
the name of the company as well as the topic on which
you are going to work. Once your thesis topic is fixed
or approved you have to register at the Central Examination Office. After you have registered, you will have
23 weeks for doing your project and writing the thesis.
Extension is only possible in exceptional cases. After
the completion of practical work, you have to submit
the thesis and defend it at the institute.

•
On-campus life
Coffee and snack machines – Snacks and a variety
of hot and cold drinks are offered in most of the university buildings.
Mensa and Cafeteria – The university offers 2 Mensas and cafeterias, one in Reichenhainer Straße and
another one in Straße der Nationen. Mensa food is offered at a reasonable rate for the students. Payment is
done with the student ID card. You just need to credit

For location and menus check www.tu-chemnitz.de/
stuwe (Speiseplan Chemnitz).
Mr. Deepak Panchal
Scientific Researcher at pmTUC
“Food options in Chemnitz University Mensa are versatile. E.g. for vegetarians, an option of a vegetarian
meal exists. For the non-vegetarian students, food is
not at all a problem, as there are many options available. Food is provided at a lower price for the students.”
Email ID: [email protected]
Code of conduct – Smoking is not allowed inside the
university buildings as well as hostel corridors.
Student clubs – Student clubs are there in most of the
university hostels. You can find the location and event
details at www.tu-chemnitz.de/stuwe (Wohnen).
Club der Kulturen (CdK) is actually a group of clubs.
You can participate in events which you find interesting. You can even become a member of any of the
clubs. The programme list, details of different clubs
and contact details can be found at www.tu-chemnitz.
de/stud/club/kulturen. CdK is located behind the Studentenwerk building and in front of the Mensa in Reichenhainer Straße.

Off-campus life
Transportation – Bus and tram are the modes of public transport in Chemnitz. Travelling by all the buses
and trams in Chemnitz is free for students. You can find
the tram and bus timings on www.cvag.de, which is the
official website of CVAG (Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG),
the public transport company of Chemnitz. Deutsche
Bahn (DB) connects the different cities in Germany as
well as Germany to other major European cities. Travelling with DB allover Saxony is also free for students.
If you are not travelling in a group, the “Mitfahrgelegenheit” system can be a right option, as it is cheaper than
travelling with DB. Visit www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de for
further details. Persons who are travelling to different
cities may have free seats in their vehicles and wish to
have fellow passengers who want to travel in the same
direction. On the above website, the date, time of travel
and contact details are given.
Telephone - E-Plus (Blauworld), T-Mobile, O2 and
Vodafone are the main connections available and
there are also some cheap connections like Ortel mobile. Skype credit, Jumblo (www.jumblo.com) are some
other options. You can buy a SIM card in many places.
In the beginning it is probably the best option to buy a
pre-paid card, to which you can credit money, rather
than concluding a contract. You can also find public
telephones throughout the city.
Hospitals/clinics - In Germany, you need to have
health insurance for visiting a doctor. The nearest clinic (from the university hostels) is in Rewitzerstraße 5,
which is opposite to Penny shop in Gutenbergstraße.
Doctors with various specialisations are practising
there. One among them is Dr. Thomas K. Müller, who
is a specialist in general medicine and health (Tel: +49
(0)371 586064). Please note that it is common in Germany to first visit a general health doctor. He will refer
you to a specialist if needed. Hospitals are visited only
in emergency/serious cases.
If your sickness is bit severe or you need a minor surgery, then you may go to Dr. Kühnert, who is a physician/surgeon, practising at Ärztehaus Clausstraße
(Tel: +49 (0)371 510305).

reach there with 72 bus, in the direction “Heimgarten”,
but then you need to get off at “Grüner Winkel” and
walk a bit backward down the hill.
There are different hospitals in Chemnitz. One of the
popular hospitals is Zeisigwaldkliniken Bethanien
Chemnitz (Tel: 01805/430530-1869). You can reach
there by bus 51 in direction “Zeisigwald/Yorckgebiet”
and get off at “Zeisigwald”, which is the last stop.

Shopping – For those students who stay at university
hostels, Penny and Edeka in Gutenbergstraße are the
nearest two options to buy all the necessary households. There is a provision to dispose used plastic and
glass bottles in both shops and you will be paid according to the number of bottles. Edeka shop is also there
in Reichenhainer Straße, opposite to the university
building. Gallerie Roter Turm and Galleria Kaufhof (you
can reach there by bus 51 in direction “Yorckgebiet/
Zeisigwald” or by tram 2 in the direction “Hauptbahnhof”, and get off at “Zentralhaltestelle”) are the major
shopping centres in the city. There is another major
shopping centre called Sachsen Allee. You can reach
by bus 51 in direction “Zeisigwald/Yorckgebiet” and
you have to get off at “Thomas Mann Platz”. Chem-
-14-
nitz Center (bus 21 in the direction “Chemnitz Center”),
Ikea (bus 23 in the direction “Neefepark”) are other
shopping attractions which you may visit.
Those students who come from Asia can find some
of their traditional items in the Asia shop in “Thomas
Mann Platz” (route already given above) as well as the
one in “Annenstraße” (you can get off at “Annenstraße”
by bus 51 or tram 2). Another option is Pomodoro
(www.pomodoro-chemnitz.de).
Post office - Deutsche Post DHL is the official postal
company of Germany. There is one DHL centre in Reichenhainer Straße, nearby TU Reichenhainer Straße
bus stop. The shop name is “Copy Shop Kettler”. If any
parcel is not delivered to you, it will be given to your
neighbours of your hostel room or it will be kept in the
above shop, from where you can pick it up. A notification will be put in your letterbox. You can just go to
the copy shop and collect your parcel by showing this
notification and your ID card. Some other postal centres are in “Annenstraße” (nearby Asian shop) and in
“Zentralhaltestelle” (opposite to Roter Turm, which is
the main post office).
Food - There are a lot of German restaurants all
over Chemnitz. Indian, Chinese restaurants etc. are
also there. An Indian restaurant is at “Zschopauer
Straße”. You can catch bus 62/72 to reach there. (Tel:
+49(0)371 69082-0, visit www.maharadschapalast.
de). There are other small German restaurants which
provide Indian dishes and you will be informed about
them via ads.
Mr. Chaitanya Bapat
Scientific Researcher at pmTUC
“Being a strict vegetarian and remaining so, can be quite
a challenge. Though it is not impossible to find vegetarian
food, the best way is to cook food yourself. There may be
only a few vegetarian options when one goes to a cafe or
restaurants and they are also very expensive.”

Leisure activities - There are various possibilities to enjoy
the leisure time. Visit www.study-in-chemnitz.com (Leisure).
Exploring Germany/Europe - The following are some suggestions for a day trip:
• Chemnitz (Industry Museum, Botanical Garden, Chemnitz
Zoo, Schlossberg)
• Dresden (Frauenkirche, museums)
• Leipzig (Leipzig Zoo, Asisi Panometer, Monument of the
Battle of the Nations)
• Others (Sächsische Schweiz, Erzgebirge, etc.)
If you have a Schengen visa, it is allowed to visit other
Schengen countries without an additional tourist visa. Visit
www.bahn.de for the offers available to travel within Europe.
Airlines like German Wings, EasyJet, Ryanair, etc. offer
some cheap flights.
Climate - As you might already know, there are four seasons in Germany: winter, spring, summer and autumn. As
far as the studies are concerned, the only important thing
is to switch between winter and summer time so that you
don’t miss your lectures. In winter, night is longer than that of
summer. This time adjustment is done as a part of day light
saving. Usually changes occur in October and March.
Culture/getting along with Germans – Germans are wellknown for their punctuality and time consciousness. Be on
time for the lectures and especially appointments. They are
very polite, at the same time straight-forward in behaviour.
Be bold, interact more and express yourself!
Others - Proper disposal of garbage is a very important matter in Germany. So it is recommended to practise the garbage segregation/disposal instructions given at www.studyin-chemnitz.com (Living/Waste separation). Put your name slip on your letterbox and empty it frequently
as a lot of ads will be posted daily.

There are few things to be done before you go back to your home country. Visit www.study-in-chemnitz.
com (After your studies) for checklist. Don’t forget to cancel your bahncard or telephone contract (only if
you have a postpaid connection).
