BACKGROUND
Canvas and Tent has been manufacturing tents since 1968. Our
experience of more than forty years has given us the knowledge
which has set us apart from our competitors and established us as the
market leader serving the military, humanitarian organisations, game
reserves, safari destinations and adventurers.
Situated in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains in Ladysmith,
South Africa, our factory is dedicated and committed to setting new
standards in manufacturing.

Bushtec Safari, our division dedicated to the Safari Market, offers years
of experience in planning and design, as well as a unique understanding
of our clients’ environment from hunting and guest lodges to luxurious
five-star safari camps.
Design
At Bushtec Safari, our in-house design department is fully cognisant of
the expectations of our clients’ discerning guests and is able to design
luxury safari tents according to customised specifications.
The design approach is one of innovation as we strive to create the
luxurious comforts of home, along with five-star comfort in a tented
camp. After all, we are in the business of creating everlasting guest
experiences – unique accommodation in the outdoors that brings you
closer to nature.
Our design department’s unwavering commitment to quality
successfully combines comfort and luxury in a product which has a
deserved reputation for long-term durability.
Every Bushtec Safari design has its own unique character which will
enhance your camp or lodge. Our attention to detail covers the living
space, bathrooms and common areas (such as libraries, bars and dining
rooms) and we pay special attention to the finishes, including doors,
windows and roofs.
Industrial-strength zips provide strength and durability, but – in the
event of misuse – these are replaceable. Only ripstop high-tear canvas
is used and the stitching is coated to protect against climatic forces
such as rain and ultraviolet exposure.
Optional PVC floor linings are welded together before being stitched
to the canvas and fire-retardant coatings can be applied on request.
This is an investment which delivers a significant ROI over time, thanks
to the quality fabrics, workmanship and quality control measures in
place in our state-of-the art manufacturing facilities.

Safari Camp Planning
Our experts offer years of insight and experience in planning the
perfect tented camp that will guarantee your guests’ maximum luxury
in some of the wildest outdoors. Our planning offers reassurance
prior to outlay of capital and ensures every aspect of your guests’
comfort and experience in tented accommodation.

THE MERU RANGE
Named after Mount Meru, an active strato-volcano located 70 kilometres west of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. At a height of 4,566 metres, Meru is visible from Mt Kilimanjaro on
a clear day and is the tenth-highest mountain in Africa.

Years of experience has enabled us to develop relationships with some
of the best floor and deck designers in the world. These are experts
who have worked with us on major projects and in whom we have

At Bushtec Safari, we pride ourselves in always delivering top
quality products. We remain customer focused, and have a processed
approach, which ensures continual improvement and a mutually
beneficial relationship with both our suppliers and customers.
Through our newly upgraded onsite laboratory we are able to
research new and improved methods for curing, treating, laminating
and strengthening canvas, thus giving you a high standard of quality
products. Our technologically advanced equipment undertakes testing
such as the following.
Instron/Tensile Strength Testing Equipment By conducting in-house tensile strength testing, we can ensure that
the stitching and PVC welds are strong enough to withstand nature’s
elements.
Decor
Contemporary yet classic, cultural yet global, our designs bring an
element of innovation and indulgence to the world of luxury canvas
accommodation. The interior designers with whom we associate,
are inspired by creativity – filled with passion for what they do.
Our approach to decor is constantly evolving, while the quality and
uniqueness remains in every interior created.
Our factory in Ladysmith is ISO 14000 certified. We also offer limited
warranties on various products, parts and workmanship.
In streamlining our production we are proudly the first tent company
in Africa to implement the Eton System in our factory. This system
has revolutionised the manufacturing of canvas products. It improves
quality through hanging production, shorter through put times, less
work in progress and overall better overview and organisation of
production. With this system which provides real time data collection
and information, the production team attend and overcome gaps in
production instantaneously.
It eliminates manual transport of ‘work in progress’ items, optimising
workflow and allowing time for more value adding activities. From
more ergonomically-designed work stations to extensive flexibility
in design, this system is aimed at keeping Canvas and Tent at the
Water Head Testing Equipment forefront of excellence.
Our material is tested for various water head requirements to ensure
it meets the required standards.
Flammability Testing Equipment (Vertical/Horizontal)
Material can be tested against various international standards. All materials are available in fire retardant options.

Maintenance
MAINTENANCE
We understand that the investment in a tented camp delivers a significant ROI over
time, thanks to the quality fabrics, workmanship and quality control measures in place –
however, we acknowledge the need for day-to-day maintenance to increase the lifespan of
your tented camp.
Our installation team offers day-to-day maintenance training to both owners and camp
staff. We also provide service level agreements whereby we maintain the tents over time
– offering a turnkey solution as well as reassurance to you that the market leaders are
maintaining your investment.
