For the first Editorial of the 2014-2015 school year I decided to acknowledge the
problem of promoting our clubs. For a small school the promotion of the clubs is
essential to keep them alive. A simple solution to this is a school fair!
School Fair
On the first day of
high school when
you’re
bustling
around looking for
your schedule or
scurrying to your next class it probably
never crosses your mind that high
school can actually be fun. Don’t worry,
it definitely can be. Because of our
clubs, high school is a very enjoyable
place.
“How can a school so small have clubs
though?” you may ask yourself. In
order to keep our clubs alive we have
to be in them. The only problem is that
students do not know what clubs are in
existence and what clubs aren’t. If I
didn’t have a sibling I know I wouldn’t
have had any clue what clubs Allen
East had. There’s a simple fix for this
though.
I believe that we
should
have an annual
school fair at
the
beginning
of the each
new school
year. At this
fair each club
would have a booth
to promote
their club. The upper-class members
and their advisors would maintain the
booths. They could have various
activities or giveaways at their booth
to support their club. They also would
have a sign-up sheet for students who
are interested in
joining.
We could host
the fair in the
parking lot or
even
on
the
grassy knoll at the
main entrance. Both of
these places offer plenty of room to
have a school fair. An issue brought to
my attention was that if we had this
nobody would show up. I believe that
we should have the fair during the
school day. We could have it at the
same time we normally have pep
rallies or we could shorten all the
periods if we need more time. This
would eliminate the problem of people
not coming since students are already
at school.
A school fair would be the perfect
way to keep our clubs in existence and
to brighten the lives of high
school
students.
Who
knows, maybe you would
decide to join a club you
never thought you’d join.

This year the choir is back at their hardworking, dedicated ways. This week we had the
opportunity to speak with the schools choir teacher, Mrs. Spencer! She gave us some

Mr. Dellifield has done it again by going above and beyond with the Mustang Marching Brass! They
have an awesome time performing for you, as they hope you have an awesome time watching them!
The Brass has been working very hard this
season to put on some awesome shows for
you!
During each summer they have their annual
Brass Camp. The brass camp lasts one week
and is the third week in August. The start
time for the camp is 7 a.m. and goes until
noon. The brass also performs at the
Kewpee Showcase of Bands at the fair every
year. They also are a part of the Allen
County Fair Parade. They have won first in
the parade for the past six years! The
Mustang Silks and the twirler were also
involved in a competition at the fair this
year. The girls that were involved were
Kailey Stover, Sara Fraunfelter, and Victoria
Dawson, and Destiney Goble. They placed
first in dance and
dance

second in feature
flags,

twirler, and rifle.
Great job girls!
The Brass continues to work hard every
week to put on awesome pregame and
halftime shows. They play a lot of different
types of songs, as they are handpicked by
Mr. Dellifield each year. Some of the songs
picked this year include “Thriller”, “Paint It
Black”, “Get Off My Cloud”, and “Barbara
Ann”. This year the Brass is not going on a
trip, but will be at every varsity football
game. They love to come out and support
the boys!

September 27th was a busy day for the high school students of Allen East. Lima’s beauty salons
and spas were crowded with girls anxious to get their hair and makeup done while the boys
headed towards the flower shops for their boutonnieres. Everyone was busy getting ready for
the Homecoming Dance that night! Take a look at what you missed (if you weren’t there) and
be ready for a bigger and better dance next year.

You may not have known it, but the Allen East JH cheerleaders have been practicing at
the school all summer to prepare for the fall football season. These girls have been
cheering at every Junior High Football game, rallying up the fans and pumping up the
boys.
Meet Our JH Cheerleaders!
The Junior High cheerleaders are
excited about their
first few years of
cheerleading before
they move on to high
school. The squad has
been spending time
practicing their jumps,

Sydney Treglia, and Ciera Clevenger.
The coaches this year are Kourtney

If you’ve ever played a sport or participated in a debate, or even competed in a beauty pageant,
you know what it feels like to have the competitive juices flowing. The rush of adrenaline pushing
you to do your job right is an experience we’ve all had, even the quiz bowl team. They’ve just
started practicing their buzzer reflexes and computational skills in preparation for their first big
match at the WTLW Channel 44 television station on October 8th. The 2014 Quiz Bowl team is:
SENIORS
Forrest Hager
Charlee Hefner
Carter Jarman
Alex Larese
Kayla Neff
Maddison Rex
Shelby Stevens
Ben Thayer
Julie Webster
JUNIORS
Dakota Clark
Parker Frey
Paige Hill
Sara Plaugher
Ariel Schantz
Evan Stover
A typical quiz bowl match consists of two sets
of questions ranging in difficulty and subject
matter. Four members are chosen to play in
each round. The first set of questions is
answered by the four representatives who
discuss possible answers and then write down
their final answer on a whiteboard. Points are
awarded to the team(s) that answer correctly.
The second round also involves four members
from each school. This time, they answer
questions by ringing in with their buzzers. It’s

a matter of speed and intelligence when it
comes to this final face-off. The team will
have to be proficient in all kinds of categories
including music, math, and the dreaded
potpourri (yes, that’s the weird, and
sometimes shocking, stuff called common
knowledge).
Now it’s time to prove your smarts! Try out
these sample quiz bowl questions, and maybe
you’ll find out that the Allen East Quiz Bowl
team
is
meant
for
you,
too.

On the 29th of August, Allen East held the first pep rally of the school year. It was a great
success in exciting the students about teams that they are in as well as teams they are not
involved in.
We got spirit! Yes, we do!
We got spirit! How about
you? In the land of the
Mustangs we are excited
about our fall sports. In order
to be as motivated as
possible we have a pep rally to boost our
esteem in our sports.
The fall teams introduced were football,
volleyball, cross-country, cheerleaders,
golf, brass, and soccer. All of the high
school students in fall sports were
mentioned, and junior high teams were
acknowledged. The members of all the
high school teams gathered on the
basketball court and a representative from
each
team
talked
about
their
achievements.
The representative of football was
Jacob Sherrick. Taylor Lloyd spoke about
volleyball.
Crosscountry
was
represented
by
Ben
Thayer. Shelby Golden
was gracious enough to
introduce
the
cheerleaders.
The
representative of golf was
Parker Frey and Ariel Schantz.
Mr. Dellifield talked about the Brass
and Erica Fox spoke about soccer.
Each representative told the students
about
their
team’s
goals
and
achievements. They also introduced the
seniors from each sport. The Brass played
a few tunes and the cheerleaders led the
crowd in some cheers.
“The pep rally was very energetic and
made me have hope in our teams,” said
Kennedy Fraunfelter. There is nothing
more electrifying than a fun-filled,
energetic pep rally to boost our spirit.
The pep rally
succeeded
in
increasing
our
excitement in fall
sports. As the
season
continues we
will strive
to reach our
goals and
cheer on the
other teams.
