Unified Sports
Westborough Unified Sports is a Special Olympics program open to
children ages 7 and up, which is supported by the Westborough Recreation
Department throughout the year. Unified Sports combines equal numbers
of participants with and without intellectual/developmental disabilities to
train and compete together as a sports team. Westborough currently offers
Soccer (fall), Dance (fall), Basketball (winter), and Swimming (spring). Each
season runs for approximately 8-12 weeks, with weekly practices and two
regional competitions. The formation of teams depends on the number of
athletes available in each age group. The program raises money through
donations so there is no cost to participants. Athletes with special needs
and typically-developing volunteers must register through the Westborough
Recreation Department. Athletes with special needs must also complete
the Special Olympics of Massachusetts form.
Coaching & Volunteering: Teams are coached by adult volunteers or high
school seniors. Training is provided through Coach's Training Sessions
which are offered year-round by Special Olympics Massachusetts. These
sessions provide information on selecting and grouping athletes, new
practice activities and sport knowledge. Unified Sports Partners are peers
without disabilities who play on the teams with athletes. Partners must be
the same age as athletes, and be able to understand their role as a
supportive teammate. They actively play on the team during practices and
tournaments. Limited space is available to partners. Sibling partners are

encouraged to improve their skills. * Prepares athletes with higher level
skills for participation in school or community sports. * Increases public
awareness of the spirit and skills of individuals with challenges. * Enables
Special Olympics athletes' families to participate as team members or
coaches on Unified Sports teams. * Enables athletes to develop friendships

Group Fitness Programs at F3 (Ages 16+)
POUND is a full-body cardio jam session, combining
light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The
workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements,
plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Burn between 400
and 900+ calories per hour, strengthen and sculpt infrequently used
muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while
rocking out to your favorite music! Appropriate for all fitness levels.
POUND WORKS. POUND combines easy to follow (and not complex or
embarrassing) cardio moves with strength training and drumming. This
combo works the entire body, raises the heart rate to a fat-burning zone,
and forces each move to be as precise as a basic beat. After you’re done
rocking out, you’ll have done 15,000 reps, performed over 30 extended
interval peaks, and zipped through over 70 techniques.
