Welcome
After a fantastic opening period, our Autumn season is upon us and we have
a wide variety of events coming up at both of Scunthorpe’s theatres. Despite
only being open for a few months, The Baths Hall has had a great start with a
number of sell out events. Those who attended Bill Bailey’s opening night show
will remember it for a long, long time, while Brendan Cole had people dancing in
the aisles back in February.
There’s a lot to be excited about in the coming months. Folk star Seth
Lakeman makes The Baths Hall his only stop in the Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and
Humber region in October and wrestling returns to the venue during the same
month. Roy Chubby Brown brings his controversial, adults-only show to the
venue in November whilst pop sensations The Overtones will visit in December.
Madness frontman Suggs is visiting the venue in October and the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra return for a third time in November.
The Plowright Theatre continues to grow from strength to strength. With
some fabulous local performances in recent months, there have also been huge
turnouts for the likes of Mike Harding and many of our amateur dramatic and
dance groups. There’s plenty still to come over the coming months – Irish star
Dominic Kirwan visits in October with legendary entertainer Jimmy Cricket set
to visit in November. Controversial comedian Jerry Sadowitz will star during the
same month with Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson performing in October.
New shows are announced all the time and you can keep up to date by
visiting our website www.scunthorpetheatres.co.uk or our Facebook pages –

We look forward to seeing you at our venues again soon.

Sat 11 Aug 7.00pm
Mon 10 - Sat 15 Sept 7.30pm
Wed 19 - Sat 22 Sept 7.30pm
Formed in Airdrie, Scotland, but
featuring members originally from
South Africa, Canada and the
United States, Flood of Red have
played at Download Festival,
Sonisphere, Slam Dunk and
some of the biggest rock venues
in the country. Having supported
Enter Shikari, The Blackout and
Madina Lake on tour, the band
flew to Baltimore, Maryland where
they spent a month recording
their debut album with punk
rock extraordinaire producer
Brian McTernan (Cave In, Thrice,
Converge). Mixing heavy guitar riffs
with more ambient soundscapes,
the band are hard-hitting yet
melodic. Flood Of Red will be
supported at The Baths Hall by
Night Verse, Paperplane and
Empty Pockets.
Based on a true story which
became the subject for a
Broadway musical which ran
for 1,600 performances, and
also a popular film starring Dolly
Parton and Burt Reynolds. This
is a funny, lively and entertaining
show with lots of humour, it
celebrates with song and dance
the wholesomeness of the men
who used ‘The Chicken Ranch,
managed by the ‘Madam’ - Miss
Mona, who liked her girls to act
like Ladies’. The Chicken Ranch
has been known for generations
as the best whorehouse in Texas
for its fun, frivolity, strict moral
code and cleanliness.
First performed by The Hospital
Players in 1959 and brought back
to celebrate our 70th Anniversary
year, Arsenic and Old Lace is one
of the first and funniest comedies
of multiple murder that puts black
comedy well and truly back on
the theatrical map. It revolves
around Mortimer Brewster, a
drama critic, who must deal
with his crazy, homicidal family
and local police, as he debates
whether to go through with his
recent promise to marry the
woman he loves. His family
includes two spinster aunts who
have taken their charitable acts
to murderous extremes; one
brother who believes he is Teddy
Roosevelt; and a murderous
second brother who has received
plastic surgery!

The Bay City
Rollers Story
The Sounds
of Simon
Ralph McTell
Thurs 11 Oct 7.30pm
Fri 12 Oct 7.30pm
Sat 13 Oct 7.30pm
In 1974 the world was to witness
a new musical phenomenon the
likes of which had not been seen
since the days of Elvis and The
Beatles. The music of the Bay City
Rollers became the soundtrack
for a generation of teenagers
growing up in the mid 70’s. The
face and voice of that soundtrack
belonged to Les McKeown.
With Les leading the way, the
band’s singles and albums shot
to the number one spot all over
the globe. Massive hits such as
Bye Bye Baby, Shang A Lang,
Summer Love Sensation and Give
A Little Love (to name just a few)
propelled the band to world-wide
superstardom and their trademark
Scottish tartan was to be seen
everywhere across the planet.
As seen on BBC’s The One Show,
The Sounds of Simon is a tribute
to the wonderful music of Simon
and Garfunkel.
Lose yourself to nostalgia as the
full band play such classics as Mrs
Robinson, The Boxer, The Sound
of Silence and You Can Call Me Al
as well as all the others that have
established Paul Simon as one of
the most successful songwriters
of all time.
Paul and Art are played to
perfection, bringing in elements
of their famously fractious
relationship, as well as replicating
the beautiful harmonies flawlessly.
This is a wonderful show filled
with excellent music, nostalgia,
and a genuine love for some great
musicians.
One of the great storytellers,
Ralph McTell, is now celebrating
more than 40 years on the road.
Known for his virtuoso guitar
style, he is primarily a prolific and
gifted songwriter. With a style that
invites you into a unique world,
he weaves a narrative that is both
significant and poignant.
Ralph made his debut in 1968
with the album ‘Eight Frames a
Second’ and in 1974 the release
of ‘Streets of London’ earned him
an Ivor Novello Award. In 1993,
Nanci Griffith recorded ‘From Clare
to Here’ on her Grammy Award
winning album and in 2002 he
was presented with the prestigious
Lifetime Achievement Award at the
BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Tues 23 - Sat 27 Oct 7.30pm
The once proud Ankh-Morpork
City Night Watch has been
reduced to just three men.
Cautious, cowardly Fred
Colon, the desk sergeant who
communicates with his wife
through notes left on the kitchen
table and weasely Nobby Nobbs,
who carries documents to prove
he is actually human are led by
Captain Vimes, whose ideals of
upholding the law in the city he
loves have been slowly crushed,
leaving him a drunken cynic.
Two new arrivals upset their
comfortable rut. The first, an
enthusiastic new recruit: Carrot
Ironfoundersson, human by birth
but dwarf by upbringing. The
second, a large, angry, firebreathing dragon…
Folk star Seth Lakeman is to
perform at The Baths Hall,
Scunthorpe on Saturday, 20
October as part of his nationwide
tour. The Scunthorpe date is the
only show on his 16 date tour in
the Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and
Humber region.
Seth will be performing tracks
from his new album Tales From
The Barrel House, which is out
now on his own Honour Oak
Records. The record, his sixth solo
release, underlines Seth’s knack
for writing both foot-stomping,
singalong songs and more tender,
thoughtful ballads.
Seth, who has three Top 40
albums under his belt, is a BBC
Radio 2 Folk Award winner and
was nominated for the Mercury
Music Prize in 2005.
A heartbreaking story recalling
one of the darker pages of our
industrial history. This poignant
play revolves around Sally
Hardcastle and her family. She
strives to make ends meet,
but when both her father and

to keep the family together. What
will happen when Sally falls in
love with Larry? Will she fight or
sacrifice her integrity to secure the
happiness of the people she loves

Legendary Sheffield-born singer,

of Ace, Squeeze and Mike &
The Mechanics returns to the
road. With a back catalogue
of hits including How Long,
Tempted and The Living Years,
Paul’s marvelously soulful voice
is known to millions around the
world; he is undoubtedly a key
figure in Britsh pop history. As his
devoted fans know all too well,
a Paul Carrack show is always
something very special.
Following 2011’s TV appearance
on BBC 2’s Later With Jools
Holland, plus the news of the
release of his long-awaited
autobiography, “Looking Back
At Me”, Wilko Johnson, the
legendary former guitarist of
Dr. Feelgood, who’s influenced
everyone from Joe Strummer
and Mick Jones, is pleased to
announce an extensive Autumn
2012 UK tour with very special
guest Virgil and the Accelerators.
There can’t be any doubt… Jerry
Sadowitz is the world’s most
offensive and most offended
comedian on the planet and he’s
coming to a town near you! This
is a whole other level of humour…
nothing, repeat nothing, is off
limits. Where other comics finish,
Sadowitz begins.
Think of the number of
“shocking” comics the UK has
thrown up in the last ten years…
Gervais, Carr, Stanhope, Jeffries,
Boyle, Chubby Brown. Forget it.
They’re the variations, the warmup acts, the advance party…
all of them got their start from
this man… Jerry Sadowitz - the

Rossini The Barber of
Seville Overture
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto
Dvořák Symphony No.9,
‘From the New World’
A quirky take on this classic
Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, this
production is set in the ‘Flower
Power’ world of the 1970s where
crimplene rules the roost and
collars couldn’t get any bigger!
It’s the story of a young man’s
obsession with equality in love and
the lengths to which he will go to
achieve his fantasy.
Employed by the young man,
a Sorcerer creates a love potion
so that all can share the dream.
At the young man’s betrothal party,
attended by the whole village, the
potion is added to the teapot.
With typical British ritual
everyone takes a cup of tea and
promptly falls into a deep sleep. On
waking the most unlikely people fall
in love with one another with the
usual comic twists and turns.
After walking the wall in the
West Bank, becoming Guinness
World Record holder for political
protests and chasing arms
dealers around the country, Mark
Thomas turns his attention to
matters closer to home with a
show about his father.
First commissioned by the
Royal Opera house, Bravo
Figaro! is the true tale of a self–
employed builder’s love of opera,
degenerative illness and how to
put opera on in a bungalow in
Bournemouth. It is about love,
death and the search for peace
in an imperfect world with some
gags thrown in for luck, told by
one of the finest storytellers in
the country.

Talon were formed back in
September 1997. Fifteen years
on and they are recognised
throughout the industry as the
worlds definitive Eagles tribute
show. The 15th Anniversary Tour
features all the classic Eagles hits
from their timeless back catalogue
including Hotel California, Lyin’
Eyes, Take It Easy, Desperado,
Take It To The Limit, Life In The
Fast Lane, The Last Resort and
many more plus Don Henley solo
hits Boys Of Summer and Dirty
Laundry, and One Day At A Time
and Funk #49 by Joe Walsh.
Although the show now features
ten world class musicians (including
a Horn Section) it is the immensely
powerful vocal harmony and exact
musical production on which Talon
have built their reputation.
In 2011 Iain Matthews reformed
Matthews Southern Comfort and
undertook a short European tour
that brought the band to the UK
for 3 sell-out shows. Now MSC
are back with a longer tour and are
delighted to incorporate a show in
Scunthorpe, Iain’s home town.
It’s a great show featuring all
the band’s most popular songs
including Something In The
Way She Moves, The Road to
Ronderlin and, of course, their
No1 worldwide hit Woodstock
alongside great new material that
has emerged during the band’s
renaissance.
If you’re looking for an evening
of pure, unadulterated, sonic bliss,
Matthews Southern Comfort lives!
Jimmy Cricket is back on tour with
his ‘Great Value for a Tenner’ show.
With trademark wellington boots
(on the wrong feet), letters from
his Mammy and catchphrases of
‘come closer’ and ‘there’s more’
Jimmy holds the hearts of all
those that were original fans of his
television and radio shows.
With his talent and energy he is
as hilarious as ever, winning new
fans wherever he performs to add
to the legions amassed during his
formidable career.
Jimmy remains one of the
few completely family friendly
comedians on tour and takes pride
in having a truly clean act.

Colliery Band
The Overtones
Maddy Prior & The
Carnival Band with
Carols & Capers
Sun 9 Dec 7.30pm
Wed 12 Dec 7.00pm
Thurs 13 Dec 7.30pm
The Grimethorpe Colliery Band
is probably the nation’s favourite
colliery band with an international
reputation for excellence on both
the concert and contest stage.
The band was formed in 1917
as a leisure activity for the
workers at the colliery, by
members of the disbanded,
Cudworth Colliery Band.
Since then it has featured in
film, TV and radio and the band
is justifiably proud of its history
and achievements. The band
also starred in and provided the
soundtrack for the 1996 British
hit film ‘Brassed Off’ which also
featured Pete Postlethwaite, Tara
Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor.
The Overtones have dazzled
audiences with their flawless
performance, winning charm and
impeccable style. Having originally
formed in 2006, The Overtones
have created a unique sound,
blending the essence of vocal
groups of yesteryear with the best
of classic, present-day British
pop. One of the biggest success
stories of 2011, Mark Franks, Mike
Crawshaw, Darren Everest, Timmy
Matley and Lachie Chapman have
seen their debut album Good Ol’
Fashioned Love sell more than
400,000 copies with a peak chart
position of number 4. The band
had the second best selling debut
from a UK group last year..
Following the hugely popular
2010 Christmas tour, renowned
folk singer Maddy Prior joins up
once again with the Carnival Band
during the Festive Season for their
unique celebratory show ‘Carols
& Capers’. Together they mix
renaissance, modern and ethnic
instruments with a refreshing
cavalier attitude and plenty of
humour putting their inimitable
stamps on a range of familiar and
not-so-familiar festive fare. This will
guarantee to be a Christmas Party
to remember.

Pre-Show
meal at the
Baths Hall?
If you’re attending a show at The Baths
Hall, why not avoid the queues at the bar
and pre-order your drinks for both preshow and the interval? Celebrate in style
with our perfectly chilled Champagne
or enjoy all the fun, fizz and frivolity of
a glass of Prosecco before a show.
Perhaps you’d enjoy a pitcher of our
classic cocktails during the interval or
even a bucket of beer bottles. There are
also special offers only available to those
who pre-order their drinks.
For more details please contact our
Food and Beverage Department weekdays
between 10am and 5pm on (01724)

a VIP by dining exclusively in one of our
function rooms or you fancy a romantic
night out, our staff will be able to make
your evening one to remember. For
further details about our pre-show dining
