IMA Annual Meeting – Held at
Harper College
Many thanks for this report from Eddi Bock.
In attendance
OFFICERS;
Ray Thompson: Chairman
Frank Walter: Vice Chairman
Ron Skala: Secretary
Warren Thompson: Treasure
IMA Directors, club delegates, and guest
GUEST SPEAKER: Steve Pallo from the
Illinois Department of Natural Resources (
I.D.N.R.)
The Illini Muskies Alliance (IMA) was
established in early 1982 by Rol Steinhouser and
Don Griffon from the Midwest Musky Club who
approached Ray Thompson with a proposal to form
a state wide organization to represent the
Muskie Clubs in Illinois.
The purpose of the organization was to form a
unified voice in dealing with the Illinois
Department of Conversation on Muskie related
issues from Muskie Clubs and organizations.
Since its inception, the IMA has assisted the
Illinois DNR with various projects, and stocking
initiatives.
Project Green Gene: With the efforts of the
I.D.N.R., IMA, and several Illinois Chapters of
Muskies Inc. I.M.T.T. and also including the
Midwest Musky Club, donations have been made
for the Project Green Gene.
This project was to evaluate what strain of
Muskies, among various stocks performs best
for SURVIVAL AND GROWTH in the different
regions of the Illinois waters..
The study was a success in giving the
information that was needed in where to stock, their
survival rate and growth.
THE VOLUNTARY MUSKIE CREEL
SURVEY REPORT PROJECT:
Steve Pollo has encouraged anglers to continue
filing out the green Musky Creel card survey.
The purpose of the Muskie Creel report card is
to gain valuable information regarding Muskies
caught in Illinois that only an angler can provide.
It is essential to ensure the continued success of
this project, so please make every effort to report
your Illinois Muskie catch.
THE ILLINOIS MUSKY CREEL
PROJECT REPORT FROM 1987 THRU
2009 was given out to all in attendance at the
January meeting.
This report shows the lakes, year, and size
where Muskies have been caught and reported in
Illinois
The IMA through collective moneys from
Muskie Clubs, the IMTT and other fishing clubs
and organizations have worked closely with the
DNR programs contributing thousands of dollars
and hours to the Kids for Conservation programs,
equipment donations, such as rearing pond nettings,
fingerling stocking (see STATUS OF THE
MUSKIE FISHERY I.D.N.R. DIVISION OF
FISHERIES REPORT) tagging programs, angler
education trailers , clean up programs and thru our
efforts donations for fish barrier netting in
prevention of muskies going over spillways.
These barriers to rescue fish have been
installed at Shabbona, Otter, Kinkaid, Pierce,
Evergreen and Shelbyville Lakes.
Steve Pallo requested monetary donations from
the Muskie Clubs, IMTT, and other fishing club
and organizations for needs in 2011 for hanging
scales, and the purchase of rods and reels for use in
the URBAN FISHING CLINICS FOR KIDS ,
kids 16 and under, throughout the state have the
chance to experience the fun of fishing. The clinic
provides basic instruction on how to fish, rules and
regulations, baiting a hook, tying a knot, casting,
and releasing of a fish safely.
For 2011 your New Year's Resolution...
TAKE A KID FISHING!!!
In closing, throughout its history the working
relationship between the IMA and DNR has grown
to be one of mutual respect and admiration.
Through the support of fishing clubs,
organizations, and anglers like you, the Illini
Muskies Alliance will continue to pursuit,
to IMPROVE AND PROTECT the Musky
Fishery in Illinois.
Thank you for your support
