Monterey Speed & Sport only reproduces rare and unusual flathead
speed equipment that is unique to the industry. All aluminum parts
are cast in Alcoa 356 aluminum, heat treated to a T-6 hardness,
and machined on CNC equipment to ensure consistency in quality and
performance. Our products are cast with a more refined casting sand
than is normally used by foundries. This casting technique produces
much more refined products, which are noticeably different in overall
visual appeal than our competition. Due to their more refined finish,
our products are much easier to polish. When polished, they hold
their brilliant shine for a much longer period of time, due largely
to our use of Alcoa 356 aluminum and our heat treatment process. The
quality of workmanship and accuracy of reproduction details set the
highest standard for the vintage speed equipment industry.

Preserving
Hot Rod
Heritage
Monterey Speed & Sport
BY KEN G ROSS
Winning vintage racer, historian, consummate auto enthusiast and owner
of Monterey Speed & Sport, Don Orosco has been a serious hot rodder for
over 50 years. As a teenager, he attended the Oakland Roadster Show in
the 1950’s, and competed there in later years. His superb restorations
of three famous Hot Rod Magazine cover cars, the ex-Alex Xydias
So-Cal Speed Shop ’34 Ford coupe, the Lloyd Bakan ’32 Ford three-window
coupe, and the Dick Flint ’29 Ford roadster, won first place in the
highly competitive Historic Hot Rod Class at the Pebble Beach Concours
d’Elegance. His restoration of the ex-Tony LaMasa “Ricky Nelson” ’32
Ford roadster, was a third place winner.
Don may be best known in hot rod circles for his better-than-original
reproduction Ardun overhead valve cylinder heads for Ford and Mercury
flatheads. He was the first to take on the challenge of reproducing
these scarce, almost-legendary components. His Arduns were virtually
identical to the originals. Orosco was also the first to reproduce
highly desirable Eddie Meyer “Hollywood” finned high compression heads
and intake manifolds for numerous flathead applications.
As a result of his broad vintage racing experience, Don maintains
close contact with top craftsmen around the world who are capable
of manufacturing virtually anything. He periodically taps into this
tremendous talent pool to develop rare and unusual flathead speed
equipment, unique hot rod accessories, and historic race car parts,
always in limited quantities – many of which are products that he
routinely uses in his own cars.
“We are dedicated to preserving our automotive heritage through the
products we manufacture, the restoration projects we undertake, and
the race events we participate in. They evoke an era when craftsmanship
and innovation were admired and respected, and speed and power were
the goal. Our work at Monterey Speed and Sport embodies the best of
a simpler time and continues a tradition of excellence... and still
manages to get our heart pounding like the sight and sound of a period
Lakes racer making a pass at Bonneville!”

Eddie Meyer
Engineering
Eddie Meyer went into business in 1919
repairing Model T Fords in Redlands,
California and became a successful race
car driver, racing a Rajo Model T with
great success in 1923 and 1924. Bud
Meyer, Eddie’s son, joined Eddie Meyer
Engineering in 1928. Eddie generally
ran the business and Bud was primarily
in charge of the shop. A few of their
more legendary employees included
Ed Pink, Louis Senter (Ansen), Tom
Sparks, Phil Remington, and Ray “Racer”
Brown, all of whom went on to fabled
careers in the automotive performance
industry. Eddie Meyer Engineering
Company produced outstanding flathead
speed equipment from the late 1940’s
through the early 1950’s. The overall
quality of their equipment was always
a cut above the competition. Bud finally
purchased the business from Eddie in
1973, and continued to operate Eddie
Meyer Engineering Company, primarily
engaged in the repair of European
sports
cars,
until
the
business
eventually closed in 2002.

MONTEREY Speed & Sport
Due to the quality and performance of
Eddie Meyer flathead speed equipment
and the Meyer “mystique” rooted in the
family’s rich racing history, Eddie
Meyer products have always been some of
the most highly prized speed equipment
ever produced. The staff at Monterey
Speed and Sport is proud of its role
in perpetuating this important chapter
of our hot rod heritage.
