Acceptable sources include product literature, a letter from the manufacturer or product cut sheets. Letters from the installer or vendor are not acceptable unless they are also the manufacturer. 2 Construction cost is the total contract cost of materials, labor and equipment for the installation of a given product or material. Materials cost is the construction cost minus the labor and equipment cost. Cost information is not required for adhesives sealants or paints reporting only VOC content (unless that product also claims credit for another category. 3 Manufacture location is defined as the final assembly location of the product or material. Extraction location is where the source material was mined, harvested or collected. For recycled materials, the extraction point is the place where the recycling occurred. If only a fraction of a product or material is extracted/harvested/recovered and manufactured locally, then only that percentage (by weight) shall contribute to the regional value (referred to as "percent compliance" per LEED). Any material with a manufacture or extraction point further than 500 miles, please indicate >500 in the corresponding box. 4 Recycled content is calculated by cost and percentages are determined by weight, separated into pre-consumer and post-consumer content. Pre-Consumer (aka post-industrial) recycled content is output from a process that has not been used as part of a consumer product, that is sold, traded, or exchanged under commercial terms as feedstock for another industrial process, and that would otherwise be landfilled, incinerated or somehow disposed of as waste, as defined by the Federal Trade Commission. Post-Consumer recycled content is consumer waste that has become raw material (feedstock) for another product. It originates from projects that have served a useful purpose in the consumer market. 5 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a third-party certification system adopted by timber management companies. A LEED point is earned if at least 50% of wood based products (by cost) used on the project carry this certification standard. The calculation includes the total cost of FSCcertified wood products divided by the total cost of wood-based products used on the project. 6 VOC content and total product quantity information must be provided for all adhesives, sealants, paints and coatings used within the building moisture barrier.
