We visit Vanessa in Longwy, a municipality in the North East of France close to
Belgium and Luxembourg. She lives with her husband and two daughters in a loft.
“We moved here because of my job at the European Commission in the Grand
Duchy of Luxembourg.”
A house with a
history
Style emphasizes

“We found this house on
the Internet; it has its own
story. Many years ago it
was a printing business.
Later it was turned into
a restaurant. We saw the
potential of the building
straight away and were
instantly attracted by the
open space. We have been
living in our loft for four
years now.”
The living area is quite
large and leads into an open
kitchen. The space bathes
in light and this impression
is heightened by the sober
style. White is the dominant
colour, but a number of
bright colour planes create a
playful effect.
“Originally there was a
grey concrete floor here
which made the living
area sombre. I like to look
through interior magazines
that inspired my choice of
a light floor. We wanted to
keep the space fresh and
simple; white is perfect for
that. The interior radiates
our character: modest…
with a daring edge. That’s
the reason for the striking
colour accents.”
“During our search for a
suitable floor we came

Ultimately we opted for clear
white, with a rather sober

husband and the girls
always walk around with

Villa, aT Walking disTance from The
beach, is an oasis of calm.
Dominique and Joeri
have a second home in
Zeebrugge, a modest
coastal town on the
attractive Belgian coast.
“As a medical secretary
and civil engineer we
both have busy lives. At
weekends we try to make
time for each other and we
regularly come to the sea
for a bit of fresh air.”

a few years ago, a dream

there was originally a stone floor but
we wanted something warmer. A
laminate floor turned out to be ideal.
Laminate is thinner than parquet
and can be laid on top of the existing
floor.”
Simple to maintain
“The matte finish means the laminate
resembles real parquet. The look fits
perfectly into the atmosphere of our
interior. But the ease of maintenance
was actually the most important
reason to opt for laminate. We are
here to enjoy ourselves, not to scrub
and clean. And with a dog in the
house a new floor had to be able to
withstand knocks.”
Light and dark laminate
On the lower level there is a light
laminate floor, Joeri and Dominique
opted for dark laminate in the
bedrooms. Both floors come from the

“The tile floor in the living room felt
cold and rather unwelcoming. So we
opted for laminate. This brightens
the space up and brings a warm cosy
feeling to the house.

Initially Joeri did not think much of
laminate but he had to rethink his

“My wife Dominique knew about

had my reservations. Fortunately
she was able to convince me

to be installed. You can best choose a subfloor that dampens walking sound to ensure a pleasant
and comfortable atmosphere in the room. Choose a subfloor that reduces the transmission sound
