Troop Leader for a Day
If I could become a troop leader for a day
I wouldn’t know how to react or what to say
But, I would teach my scouts to believe in themselves
Just like you taught to us
And to girls big or small, short or tall
I would teach them to be sisters to all
If I was a troop leader for a day
I wouldn’t know what to say
But, I would teach others to make the world better
To embark on many an exciting endeavour
I’ll watch them grow up and become leaders of their own
Just like you’ve done for me
I’ll watch and think, “My, time has flown!”
But, I can’t possibly know
The joy, regret, disappointment, and happiness
The feelings that will stick with you forever
Because I’ve never been a troop leader
But let’s just say,
That if I was a troop leader for a day
I would now know what to say
I would have felt your happiness and your sorrow
And your yearning for tomorrow
And a bright, fresh, new day
When I can now say
Thank you for all that you do
And to you parents too.

Girl Scout Take Action Award
The Girl Scout Take Action Award recognizes a Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, or
Ambassador individual or troop for efforts to Take Action to create lasting impact
through identifying community needs, resourceful problem solving, advocacy, and
educating and inspiring others to act to make the world a better place.

National Young Women of Distinction
2016 Girl Scouts of Orange County Nominees
National Young Women of Distinction (NYWOD) is an honor given by GSUSA annually to
ten Girl Scout Gold Award recipients whose final projects demonstrated extraordinary
leadership, had a measurable and sustainable impact, and addressed a local challenge
that related to a national and/or global issue. NYWOD receive an academic scholarship,
typically $10,000, training in public speaking, and recognition at an award ceremony. Girl
Scout councils may nominate up to three girls; GSUSA selects and
notifies National Young Women of Distinction recipients in July.

This award recognizes graduating 12th grade Girl Scout Ambassadors
who have shown commitment and dedication to Girl Scouting through
membership in the Girl Scouts of the USA, involvement and leadership
in Girl Scout activities, events, and programs, service to the Girl Scout community, and
advocacy of the Girl Scout program. These young women exemplify the spirit of Girl
Scouting and, like Juliette Low, the founder of Girl Scouting, they are eager to experience
and share the Girl Scout spirit with others.

This award recognizes a graduating 12th grade Girl Scout Ambassador who has

represent the Girl Scout Promise and Law. The names of former recipients are listed on
a perpetual plaque at Council Headquarters.

The Thanks Badge is reserved to honor members of the Girl Scout movement whose
service to the organization has been truly outstanding and is so significantly over and
above the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate.
The service must have benefited all of the Girl Scout Council of Orange County
or the entire Girl Scout organization.
