A Journey
through time
A desire to seek out distant climes, a longing for the unknown,
wanting to leave the here and now behind us are some of
the many reasons for making journeys.
At the beginning of the 20th century, these aspirations were
greatly spurred on by two technologies that were still in their
early days back then: cinema from the Hollywood dream factory
and the growing success of commercial flights, both of
which changed the lives of millions of people all over the world.
An unimagined universe was suddenly opened up –
be it on the screen of a movie theater or on board
a passenger jet such as the Junkers F13.
The Junkers F13 was the world’s first all-metal commercial aircraft.
The quality of the aluminum plane along with its lightweight construction and
extreme resistance were a model for generations of planes to come.
Richard Morszeck was also inspired by the legendary aluminum aircraft.
In 1937, he launched the first steamer trunks
made of aluminum alloy.
Flying and the history of RIMOWA have been
inextricably linked ever since.
