PREVIEW : STADE DE REIMS - OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS
Stade de Reims - Olympique Lyonnais Feature Preview
Reims coach David Guion says he still believes the Champagne club can secure Ligue 1 survival, despite starting Week 38 in 19th
place and closing out the season at home to second-placed Olympique Lyonnais.
Reims have lost six of their last seven Ligue 1 matches, including each of the two overseen by Guion since he replaced Olivier
Guégan. A goalkeeping error from recalled veteran Kossi Agassa cost Reims a 1-0 loss at Olympique de Marseille in Week 37, a
defeat that left further damage than the inability to score points. Leading attacker Nicolas De Préville hurt his foot against OM, while
Antoine Conté went off with a groin injury. Both players have been ruled out of the crunch OL match.
Reims begin Week 38 a point behind both Gazélec Ajaccio, in 18th, and 17th-placed Toulouse, but Guion is keen to make the mood
positive as Reims attempt to secure a fifth straight season of top division football.
Guion said: "We still believe, and the light is still on. We'll need to get a win on the last day. We're all professionals, and we come
across each other every week. Every club will play the game on the last day, so we're confident.
"We're all aware that Saturday's match could save our season. Our goalkeeper is very experienced, but an individual mistake can
happen to a great professional. We caused OM quite a few problems and I regret the fact we didn't score. With a bit more
determination, we could have scored first and come home with at least a draw."
While things are on a knife-edge for Reims, OL head into the final day in supremely relaxed mood, their thumping 6-1 win in the
second-placed shootout at home to ten-man Monaco assuring Bruno Genesio's side of a runners-up finish for the second season
running.
Alexandre Lacazette's hat-trick against Monaco lifted last season's Ligue 1 top scorer on to 21 for the season and made it 11 goals for
the French international forward from his last nine league appearances.
Genesio, promoted from Hubert Fournier's assistant at the winter break, deserves a huge amount of credit for the OL revival that
ensures Champions League group stage football at the Parc OL next season. OL have been unbeaten at their new home since it
opened at the start of 2016, and under Genesio have collected an impressive 43 points from 18 matches.
OL have collected eight wins and two draws from their last 10 Ligue 1 outings and will want to finish 2015-2016 on a high. Speaking
after the resounding Monaco success, Genesio said: "It was like we were in a dream and went way beyond what we'd hoped for. I
was very calm before the match as I had a huge amount of confidence in my players, as has been the case since I took over.
"I'm proud of having fulfilled the objective that wasn't at all easy when I started in January. I'm proud of having done good work along
with all the elements in my coaching team, and to have given this side its soul back."

Stade de Reims
- One of France's most famous clubs, Stade de Reims was founded in 1931, and after languishing in the doldrums for 33 years, made
a long-awaited return to the top flight in the 2012-2013 season.
- They have won the French title six times (1949, '53, '55, '58, '60, '62) and the Coupe de France twice (1950, '58). They are best
known for two brave European Cup final defeats to Real Madrid (1956, '59).
- Having gone into liquidation in 1991, the re-formed club started up again in the sixth tier of French football, taking ten years to return
to Ligue 2 before clinching their Ligue 1 place by finishing second in Ligue 2 in 2011-2012.
- Reims finished 15th in Ligue 1 last season with 44 points. They lost to Ligue 2 Arles-Avignon in the third round of the Coupe de la
Ligue, and Stade Rennais in the round of 32 in the Coupe de France.
- Cameroon striker Benjamin Moukandjo top scored in 2014-15 with eight Ligue 1 goals. Brazilian winger Diego Rigonato provided the
most assists with eight.
- David Guion was promoted from coaching the reserves when Olivier Guégan was dismissed after Week 35.
- The club's Stade Auguste Delaune was officially opened in 1935 with an initial capacity of 18,000. It underwent major renovation
costing 60 million Euros between 2004 and 2008, upping the capacity to over 21,000.
- Notable former players include 1958 World Cup Golden Boot winner Just Fontaine, three-time European Cup winner (with Real
Madrid) Raymond Kopa and Carlos Bianchi.
Olympique Lyonnais
- Founded in August 1950, Lyon won three Coupes de France (1964, 1967, 1973) and a Coupe de la Ligue (2001) before winning a
record seven Ligue 1 titles 2002-08. They also won the Coupe de France in 2008. They won a fifth Coupe de France and the Trophée
des Champions in 2012.
- Les Gones finished second in 2014-15, their highest finish since 2010 and their best points tally since their last title win in 2008. As
runners-up they qualified for the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2011.
- Lyon were Champions League semi-finalists in 2010, losing to Bayern Munich.
- Alexandre Lacazette was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in Ligue 1 in 2014-15 topping the scoring chart with 27 goals, beating
the previous club record of 25, set by André Guy in 1969.
- Lyon began the season at the Stade Municipal de Gerland, but they inaugurated a new, privately funded, 58,512-capacity Grand

Stade in the Lyon suburb of Décines-Charpieu in January 2016. It will host matches at Euro 2016, including a semi-final.
- Bruno Génésio was appointed coach in December 2015 to replace the sacked Hubert Fournier, who left after a year and a half at
the helm. Génésio, 49, was promoted from his role as an assistant coach, which he had occupied for the previous nine years. A Lyon
native, he spent the bulk of his playing career at the club before moving to FC Martigues in 1995.
- President Jean-Michel Aulas took over the club in 1987 when Lyon were in the second tier.
Notable former Lyon players include Bernard Lacombe, who also coached the club and now acts as special advisor to Aulas,
Raymond Domenech, Sonny Anderson, Juninho Pernambucano, Florent Malouda, Karim Benzema and Eric Abidal.
