The TCBA in recent years has seen a decline in the participation at the All Star tournament. Reasons have ranged from not enough money in the prize fund, to too expensive to make two trips to the tournaments. With the All Star tournament having an entry driven prize fund, we had trouble getting the interest of the bowlers to participate. No entries – no money was a problem. Keith Savoie TCBA President Men and Women have no proposed rule change this year. A few years ago the delegates voted that the TCBA could hold regional wildcard tournaments if necessary. This vote gave us the opportunity to move the All Star tournament to the same week as the National Playoff tournament, by having regional wildcard tournaments. Knowing this may add another day of travel to attend both tournaments we decided to also move the tournament to June. With school being out, it could possibly be a family vacation while bowling. The next step was to streamline the tournaments so bowlers would not bowl themselves out during the tournaments. The All Star tournament was reduced by illuminating the semi-finals and having a four game finals instead of an eight game round robin. Bowlers will as before, need only 6 games to qualify to bowl in the All Star tournament. The top three bowlers from each squad and the top 4th place bowler from all squads combined will advance to the finals. This will give us the top sixteen bowlers from each division to bowl 4 games to determine the All Star champions. The National Playoff tournament was reduced from five games to four for the Qualifying rounds, leaving the semi-finals and the finals as they were. These changes reduced the time of the squads and allow the semi-finals to be completed at a more reasonable time Saturday night. The regional wildcard tournaments will also add more teams to the Qualifying rounds at the National Playoff tournament. The ratio at the National Wildcard tournament was one in ten. Now every region will have at least one team advance to the Playoff tournament. Men’s regions will have a 1:5 ratio and the women’s regions will have a 1:3 ratio bowling in the wildcard tournament. With the new ratios more teams will qualify for the National Playoff tournament. I polled the leagues after December, and at that time 16 men’s teams and 18 women’s teams would make it to the qualifying tournament. Last year 10 men and 4 women’s teams advance from the Wildcard tournament. You can see the increase in the number of teams that will go to the National Playoff tournament and CASH. We discussed the cost of the regional wildcard tournament at the Delegates meeting last year. With the addition of teams bowling in the National tournament the additional lineage and prize fund had to be covered. Also the lineage at the Regional Wildcard had to be considered. With the variance in lineage cost in every region it was difficult to justify any number. The executive board had a meeting and agreed that the cost of the Regional Wildcard tournament would remain $100.00 plus the cost of local lineage. The $100.00 will be divided into two equal parts, National Tournament lineage $50.00 and National Tournament Prize Fund $50.00. The team will make the Regional Wildcard entry payment of $100.00 to the secretary running the regional tournament. The secretary will in turn send $100.00 for each team in the regional wildcard tournament to TCBA national headquarters. The format for the Regional Wildcard tournament is four games with handicap based on 1100, as teams are not bowling head to head but for total scores.
