Celebrating 30 Years of Wisconsin Wishes
Dear Make-A-Wish® Friend,
The 2014 fiscal year was marked by magical wishes and
memorable milestones. Make-A-Wish® Wisconsin celebrated
its 30th Birthday and granted its 5,000th wish. In addition, a
record-breaking 356 wishes were granted in 2014.
As we move into our fourth decade of existence, our
promise remains the same: to continue to grant the wish of
every medically-qualified child in Wisconsin with the highest
degree of integrity, fiscal responsiblility and plenty of magic!
While much has changed in the past thirty years, our
heartfelt commitment is steadfast—to bring hope, strength
and joy to children and their families. You have helped
make magic for the special children we serve. Thank you!
Warmest Wishes,
Ellen Stark
Board Chair, FY 2014

Hailee’s Wish is #5,000…
Hailee was born with cystic fibrosis,
a life-threatening genetic disorder that
causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in
her lungs and digestive system.
For her one true wish, Hailee wanted
a place to call her own, a custom-built
backyard clubhouse where she could
escape her worries and recover from
her daily breathing treatments. This
was the 5,000th magical wish granted
by Make-A-Wish Wisconsin since it
opened in 1984!
Hailee’s wish gave her something
positive to focus on throughout the
process. Planning became an exciting
part of the experience; Hailee helped
choose the colors, fabrics and decor.
And on wish day, she was surrounded
by family and friends as she walked into
her very own clubhouse for the first time.
“I knew it was going
to be awesome,
but this is
Awesome‑ER!
Thank you
Make-A-Wish,
my wish is
perfect.”

Novalie’s Wish…
“I always wanted
to be a rock star.
When I found out
my wish was
going to be
granted, I felt
like I was the
luckiest kid
on Earth.”
~Novalie
Novalie is an 8-year old who suffers
from cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening
chronic disease of the lungs and
digestive system. Novalie’s one true
wish was to be a rock star, with her
very own custom-made outfit, hit single,
music video and World Premiere event.
As Novalie prepared for her big day,
she worked with entertainment and
music industry professionals, which gave
her something to look forward to during
her lengthy daily treatments.
Novalie truly felt like a rock star on
the day of her CD release party. She
arrived in a limousine with hundreds
of fans wearing Novalie T-shirts and
holding up signs of support. After
autographing copies of her single,
“Someday,” she joined her friends and
family to watch her music video.

Justin’s Wish…
When Justin was two he was
diagnosed with Duchenne muscular
dystrophy, a progressive condition
that weakens his muscles. Justin who
is now an active 14-year-old gets
frustrated with being unable to walk
or play sports with his friends. Justin’s
one true wish to visit the Bimini Shark
Research Lab stemmed from his interest
in wildlife and the sciences. During his
wish, the Shark Lab staff made Justin
and his family feel at home by sharing
meals, giving tours and hanging out
during downtime.
Justin’s parents have noticed more self
confidence in their son since his wish.
They believe the experience has made
his life richer. As Justin’s condition
progresses, his wish has helped him
realize that he can still lead a full and
active life.
“I just want to thank
everybody who
helped make my
wish possible
because it was
the coolest
trip ever in
my WHOLE
LIFE!!!”

Reese’s Wish…
“My best memories
were seeing the
White House, a
baby panda at
the zoo, and
decorating
cupcakes with
Sophie and
Katherine,
the stars of
DC Cupcakes.”
~Reese
Reese, 7
When she was just 5, Reese was
diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma,
which required hospitalization and
ongoing treatments. She didn’t let
her medical condition keep her from
dreaming of one day opening a
cupcake shop with her sisters—just like
Katherine and Sophie, the “Cupcake
Sisters” from the popular TLC series
“D.C. Cupcakes.”
Reese wished to meet Katherine
and Sophie at their cupcake shop
in Georgetown. With the support
of generous donors, Make-A-Wish
Wisconsin brought her wish to life.
The experience went beyond her
expectations. Reese not only met the
sisters, but baked with them, learning
how to roll out fondant, mix colors and
stamp out decals. Eight dozen cupcakes
later, it was a true wish come true!
