Greetings from the General Manager
e can all join in and sing Happy Birthday to Saddle Creek and our
pioneer members. The club will be ten years old this month! To
celebrate this milestone, we are hosting a special 10th Anniversary
Tournament on July 9th. The shotgun will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the “street faire”
party to follow. Special divisions and flights have been created and players may sign
up as a couple, twosome or foursome.
Our cover features a cozy picture of this year’s Music in the Park. Sponsored by the
Calaveras Arts Council, the Black Irish Band performed as a record amount of guests
looked on and enjoyed a very comfortable night where many had to actually wear
a wind shirt. Our team made over 75 milk shakes during the evening along with an
international flair of homemade kabobs, burritos and pizza. The event is held weekly at
various locations throughout Calaveras County. For more information and to learn about
upcoming events, contact our concierge at 209.785.7410.
On Friday, June 9th, we held our second Tunes on the Terrace. The turn out was
fantastic with over 140 members and guests present, enjoying the sounds of
Doodoowah. Our next scheduled event is Friday, July 14th with Coop De Lill, a very
talented duo. Tunes on the Terrace is held on the patio overlooking the 10th hole and
begins with a special grille menu served from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The music kicks off at
7:30 p.m. and runs to 9:30 p.m. There is no charge for our members to attend.
Our monthly food and wine presentation moves to New Melones Lake on September
22nd and 23rd where we will be cruising the lake on their finest luxury double-decker
houseboat. The culinary team at Saddle Creek will host a special BBQ on the lake Friday

Chef’s Corner
Recipe for Shrimp Diablo Soup
Ingredients:
3 qts. water
2 12 oz cans diced tomato
1 6 oz can tomato paste
3 fire roasted red bell peppers
1 chipotle pepper
1 tablespoon Adobo sauce
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 cup celery
Leaves of celery stalk, 1" dice
1 medium red onion, 1" dice
1/4 cup heavy cream
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons white vinegar
Zest and juice of 1 lime
Black pepper
5 prawns, cleaned, cooked, and sliced 1/4"
5 prawns split and sautéed’, tail on
1 1/2 tablespoons salt (more or less,
if desired)
1. Roast whole red bell pepper over
open flame, being sure to get skin
charred. Clean out seeds, and set aside.
2. Combine water, diced tomatoes,
garlic, and tomato paste. Bring to a boil.
3. While water/tomato mixture comes to
a boil, sauté onions & celery in butter,
salt and pepper. Add, with chipotle/
adobo/red bells (char still on) to mixture.
Reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
4. Add vinegar, salt, zest & juice of
lime, and a few drops of Tabasco to
soup. Let simmer for 5 minutes then
add heavy cream.
5. Blend with hand mixer, or blender (do
not overfill blender with hot product,
or you may have a spicy eruption) until
consistency is fluid. Taste, and season
to your own preference.
6. Lay a few pieces of warm, chopped
shrimp in bowl, and ladle soup into
bowl (this insures the shrimp to not
be overcooked). Garnish with sautéed
shrimp, and lime wheel. Enjoy!

Ladies 9-Hole
Invitational,
“Chianti Classic”
Team of Bresee, McGill,
Anderson, and Ritchie
June 13, 2006
Updates from the Golf Shop
Our first “Ladies 9-Hole Invitational” was a huge success. A mix of ladies from all the local
area golf clubs attended this wonderful event. Our Mary Tolentino won the closest to the pin
contest on hole number 4 with a great shot to 36". Ms. Holt was closest to the pin on number
7 with a shot to 6’. The long drive contest was a dead tie with Ms. Kaiser and Ms. Armknecht
coming out on top. With a score of 18 for nine holes, the team of Ms. Bresee, Ms. McGill, Ms.
Anderson, and Ms. Ritchie won first place. There was a tie for second with a score of 23 between
the teams of Ms. Tolerton, Ms. Gong, Ms. Wilson, Ms. Peterson, and Ms. Harrison, Ms. Downey,
Ms. Rager, and Ms. Eaton. Thanks to all our ladies for making this event a great success.
Our Second “Evening on the Green” for Saddle Creek was held on Thursday, June 23.
New and old friends took on Tighe Hammam in a “closest-to” contest as well as a 3-hole
competition. Dennis Merrill won the low score for individual with a stellar seven. His tie
was upheld with a sudden death playoff against Vicki Robinson, Charlie Robinson, and
Bob Richards. Tighe and Vicki won the alternate shot format with a 2-hole playoff against
Dennis and Charlie. Tighe and Elaine Shattuck won the scramble format with a 7-hole
playoff. The big news of the night, however, was Vicki Robinson who won both of the
“Closest to the Pin” contests with aces from about 25 feet. Way to go Vicki. The next
Callaway Evening on the Green will be on Friday, July 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We
will have a 3-hole putting contest, plus a hole-in-one competition. Prizes will be awarded
and have been donated by Callaway and Odyssey golf. See you on the 14th.
Hole in Ones Needed: If you, or any member since the opening of Saddle Creek, have
had a hole in one, we need your name, date of ace, and hole number for the perpetual
plaque in the Members’ Lounge.
For those of you that didn’t get the update via Cybergolf email blast, you can now sign up
online for Mens and Ladies club events as well as the Wednesday and Thursday sweeps.
Member events will also be made available for sign up. If you did not receive the email, here
is the information to walk you through the sign-up process. If you have any questions, please
direct them to Tighe Hammam in the golf shop.

New Wednesday Night Buffet
We are in the process of designing a special “Wednesday Action Buffet” for our
membership which will begin July 26. This event will feature an array of salads and
hot entrées along with a gourmet action station. The evening will start at 5:00 p.m.
with an expanded selection of wines by the glass and complimentary hors d’ouevres
served in our fireplace lounge. Our target price will be that of previous buffets;
however, the atmosphere reflect an all new experience. Join us for an evening out
of fun and great food.
Green Report
Greetings! I can’t believe it is already July. Soon we’ll be wrapping Christmas presents.
Until then we have many months of great golfing weather ahead of us. So here’s what
happening on the golf course.
Johnson Construction has completed construction of our new practice facility. We
are now in the process of growing grass. The tee, green, and bunker surrounds
were sodded and the tee, greens, fairways, and roughs were seeded. The projected
opening date is the middle of August. We will open as soon we have a full, healthy
stand of turfgrass that can withstand foot and cart pressure, and is stable enough
for balls to be hit.
On the course, the new tee signs are up. I have had many requests for the old tee
monuments. We will be deciding shortly how we will distribute them. The yardages
are now on the cart paths and sprinklers. The new four-zone pin placement sheet is
completed. You can pick up a copy in the golf shop.
Please remember to repair ball marks. Non-repaired ball marks can take two to
three weeks to heal properly. A new ball mark, repaired properly, takes less then
half that time.
Stay cool and don’t forget your sun block. See you on the course!

evening complete with your favorite
spirits and homemade margaritas.
Saturday, we will shift gears and pair
selected creations of the chef with wines
from throughout Northern California.
Please RSVP early, space is limited.
The club is in the process of planning
our annual Summer Festival scheduled
for Saturday, August 5th. This year
we will be hosting a Jamaican Jam,
with an authentic “steel drum” band.
The evening will be complete with
your favorite tropical cocktails and an
action buffet of sumptuous summer
selections. As in the past, this event is
co-sponsored by Saddle Creek Real Estate
Sales. Details will be rolled out in our
weekly members’ email.
Your advisory board has been hard at
work fielding many suggestions that
arrive each week. Your thoughts are
very important to us, and we want you
to be certain that each letter is read
and discussed at our monthly board
meeting. A recent suggestion was made
to advise our members and guests of
the dangers of smoking while on the
golf course. Due to the dry conditions
that exist in our “native areas” we are
asking players to use exteme caution
while on the course.
Another suggestion has been made
to keep our members and guests
aware of the natural habitat that lives
and thrives in our area. Among the
many species that make the foothills
home, snakes tend to become active
at this time of year. Rattlesnakes are
mostly harmless unless surprised or
threatened. Extra care should be taken
when looking for your golf ball in the
natural areas that surround our course.
Enjoy your summer and please feel free
to contact me directly if I can be of
assistance to you in any way.
Warm regards,
Bill Troyanoski

Tighe
Here is our putting tip of the month:
“Make solid contact.” So many people
with anticipation of the putter hitting
the club head will lift the putter head up
making contact with the bottom edge of
the putter head. Feel like the putter head
stays low to the ground through impact.
This will give you a solid contact and will
help the ball stay on line better and offer
more success with all putts.
