Herd Health
All Buzzard Hollow Ranch cattle are from Certified Free Brucellosis
& Tuberculosis Free state. The mature cattle from BHR have been
vaccinated with Bovi-Shield Gold FP5 VL5, Ivermectin and Vision
7. All young cattle from these herds have received Vision 7 with spur
and a booster, as well as Bovi Shield Gold FP5 VL5 and a booster,
depending on age.
Texas is officially classified as free of Brucellosis and TB.
Other guest consignors’ vaccination programs will be available on
sale day or upon request. Required Health Papers will accompany
all animals.

Do you ever remember a time when weaned calves were worth $1000.00 and slaughter
cows & bulls were worth $1.00 per pound and commercial cow calf pairs were bring
$2500.00, I don’t either but it is a great time to be in the cattle business and It SETS THE
STAGE FOR AN EXCITING DESIGNER’S CLASSIC.
Time tested and proven genetics are what this year’s Designer’s Classic is all about. The
Fleckvieh cattle represent genetics that continue to excel both here and for our clients,
WITH CALVING EASE, GROWTH, ADEQUATE MILK, SOUND FEET AND LEGS,
FERTILITY AND PROVEN CARCASS VALUE. The Simbrah, Purebred Simmental as
well as the SimAngus all carry the proven Fleckvieh base that has been blended for that
perfect genotype and phenotype.
The guest consignors have really brought a great set of cattle that not only represent their
program, but they also show what the BHR genetic base can achieve under different management and breeding programs. I thank each of them for their commitment to the BHR
program and the Fleckvieh breed of cattle.
I believe the cattle may be the best set of genetics that I have ever produced and have done
an excellent job under extreme weather conditions present during the last year mainly the
lack of rain, and it should be a testament as to what these Fleckvieh genetics can do.
Looking forward to seeing all of you on May 17th for the sale and don’t forget to be with
us on Friday the 16th for the social as well as visiting with fellow breeders.

As most of you know, I sold Mona’s Xpress and her dam in the 2013 Designers Classic sale to Jeff Knox of Australia. Jeff flushed her dam, very successfully, and then I purchased them back, since export to Australia did not make any sense.

pack extra meat on a moderate frame, are black hided/polled, and do

multiple shows, including the inaugural Fleck Effect at NAILE, where
she was Grand Champion Female. Being 50% Fleck, Sunny sure made

Brown Ms. Logan L7742 is a flush mate sister to undoubtedly the most famous cow in the Red Angus breed, Brown MS Abrigrace L7730, which has
headline the RAB Red Angus program for the last decade.
If you look at her pedigree, you will see the Proven, Time Tested genetics that we find in the Fleckvieh breed.
Sired by Glacier Logan 210, one of the top maternal sires in the breed, with sires, such as LMAN Robin Hood and LMAN King Rob on the dams side of
the pedigree. Match this with LCHMN Abigail you have nothing but cow power.
Doctor Davis and I decided to offer a flush on L7742 with a guarantee of 6 viable embryos with a 50% conception if the work is done by an approved
Embryologist. The purchaser will get to pick the sire and will furnish the semen. The flush will be done at BHR and the only other expense will be shipping of the embryos. If the sire used meets the requirements of other countries the embryos can be made exportable. Health papers if the embryos are
exported will be at the cost of the buyer.

The high selling Red Angus bull in my bull sale in January was a Mulberry son out of a Revelation daughter of L7742. He was quite a calf.

BHR Edna is the last natural calf that Ashante will ever produce. Ashante has been retired to embryo production exclusively until she dies here at BHR.
I don’t know that you could write a better pedigree that would have the phenotype to match as does Edna.
A Jungle daughter that has all the style and genetics that we must demand in the breed today. Length of spine, natural thickness down the top and hind
quarter, perfect feet and legs and that shoulder set that we want to see in those really good Fleckvieh females.
Look at her individual data, for performance, then look at her ultra sound data and finally look at her EPS’s and you will see that Edna has all the makings of a donor in this great breed of cattle.
Edna sells bred to BHR THREE SIXES, sexed female semen. Yes that is line breeding but that is how all consistent producing bovine are produced and
if you go back to all the Proven, Time Tested Fleckvieh genetics that is how they were all produced. If she by chance has a bull calf I sure want the opportunity to at least use him in the BHR program.

Maxine is a deep sided, strong topped wide based Jungle daughter out of a Draco daughter whose dam was BHR Pret-Lu J036E, a Zulu out of Lady
Pretoria. Pure maternal genetics from the bottom side of her dam’s pedigree with a touch of power from Draco and Hadau.
Great calving ease numbers with excellent growth and milk to compliment this great package. If you look at her ultra sound data you will see a very high
IMF percentage and you match this with adequate growth you have a very nice package.

Becky is a straight German female that brings a different twist to the BHR genetics. Her dam is a C&B Western daughter out of BHR Tradewind T119
whose dam is a Z O Niner daughter out of Elsa Classic.
A touch more power here but look at the natural thickness and width of base, yet she is as feminine as you would want one to be.
Becky had the second largest REA per cwt of all the Fall born females and with this she still ranked in the top of the females for IMF.
If you go and look at the pick of open heifers in Lot 43, you will see a set of calves out of BHR X715E that will knock your eyes out. BHR X715E is a
polled Real Deal son out of Becky’s dam BHR T119.
A pedigree that is also proven and tested.

Peggy is sired by BFSS Wiley, the polled HP King son out of the clone of Hacks Fraulein. Her dam is a Doorn daughter out of HVR Winter, the Holb
daughter out of the original Hacks Fraulein. A 3/4 German female with a touch of South African to blend the genetics together in a total package.
Look at her calving ease and birth weight numbers and then look at the ultra sound data to see what’s under the hide.
A moderate framed female that has a lot of length of spine and natural thickness yet has that feminine shoulder set for that great cow look.

Zariah is a polled/scurred red double goggle heifer out of Molson and ICC Polled Lady. Zariah’s pedigree is made up of primarily maternal lines with
enough power to get the moderate framed cow we are looking for. She is deep ribbed with a long hip and good pelvic structure. Here is a heifer with
a great disposition that ranks in the top 15% for MCE, 15% for Stay, 25% for Marb, 25% for API and 35% for TI. She is a very feminine heifer that will

The original South African imports changed the direction of the BHR program towards more emphasis on the convince traits such as: calving ease,
fertility, udder quality and teat size, strong feet and legs, hair coats and calf vigor.
Permalia’s dam, BHR Kathie SA L055E, fast rose to the top of the heap, even though she was over shadowed by females such as Ashante, BHR Texas
Rose, BHR Lady Susi and others.
If you extend the pedigree, on PERMALIA, you will see that she is a double breed Hadau with one shot on both the top and bottom side. If you then
look at the maternal side she is double bred Swaarbou Massie 78 with ashore on Voightland Selli 71, which had to be one of the best Fleckvieh cows that
ever walked the earth.
PERMALIA is A Draco daughter that brings a tremendous amount of power to the genetics which is the reason for the 7.4 birth weight but look at
the calving ease number of 7.4 which is what it is all about.
Look at her length of spine and thickness matched by her width of base with a lot of rib shape and then look at the way she blends from her neck to
her shoulders for the great feminine look.
There is only one more female from this mating and she is a Spring born yearling that I will keep in my donor program. Permelia needs to be in a
donor program as well. PERMALIA sells bred to Halmark Elite sexed female semen to add a new twist to a super set of Fleckvieh genetics.
BHR will retain the right to one viable flush from this female at the new owner’s convenience at BHR’s expense.

Allie is as long as a well rope with a lot of natural thickness set on an excellent set of feet and legs. Yes she has a white stripe on her but those genetics are
in these cattle and they do come out from time to time.
Allie is a Haxold daughter and boy has he done a job adding thickness to his offspring. A lot of power in the top side of this pedigree with a good bit of
maternal power from Three Sixes, Benz and Berheim in her dam’s pedigree.
Allie sells bred to Three Sixes sexed female semen to put more calving ease into the pedigree and to stack those genetics on both the top and bottom
side of her heifer calf.

I always said that a blend of the South African and German genetics would produce the best of the best in a breeding program and here it is.
Nellie has 25% South African genetics, that comes from the immortal BHR ORANGE RIVER and the rest of the pedigree reads like a who’s who in the

RUFINA is a blend of genetics that bring both calving ease and performance together as well as genetics from South Africa and Germany.

Yes her color is not the most desirable but you cannot over look this female when you go through the cattle.

Rita was purchased by the Greiner’s, from Agro Zurita, and as I explained in Lot 20’s footnotes, they sold the farm and I agreed to have them as guest
consignors in this year’s Designers Classic. The Greiner’s are a good German family and have really enjoyed the Fleckvieh cattle.
Rita is a Bantu daughter that is the Dam of Lot 20. Her dam is a Kalahari daughter out of Bel Helga 9th and Ricardstown Jumbo.
A very maternal female that is loaded with milk as you can see in the photo.

ORPHA’s sire Manitoba, is a new German sire that I am working with at BHR. He brings a host of proven bloodlines to the mix such as Morello, Strief,

Orpha is a little larger framed, but look at the depth of rib, width of base, strength of her top and the near perfect neck and shoulder on her.
Her dam is a Three Sixes out of a Doorn daughter that has been the main stay of my program for consistent production.
A tremendous amount of milk in the sire’s pedigree and her Sunny Valley Sargent calf will come easy, be moderate framed, thick with all the milk it
will need to be a great one and it could be polled.
Each year I try to bring a complete set of cattle to the Designer’s Classic that represent the different segments of the Simmental and Simbrah Breed
that are all Fleckvieh influenced.
One note here, that I won’t make again, but I feel it has to be made: When you add Fleckvieh or Fullblood genetics into the Purebred and SimAngus
cattle there EPD’S take a severe hit in calving ease, birth weight, maternal calving ease, stay and most importantly API. The reason for this, especially for
API, is because API is driven by the other numbers that Flecks and Fullbloods take a hit on.
I am not saying that our birth weights are not higher than Purebreds or SimAngus, but I am saying that they are NOT CURRENTLY high enough to
cause the great divide in the API numbers which seems to be the driving marketing tool at this time.

I have stated many time that the dam of Freedoms mother is the best cow that I have ever raised at BHR and the only reason she was produced is because
her dam BHR F156E was not 100% Fleck so no one would even look at her in the Fleckvieh world regardless of how good she was, so I bred her to a Red
Angus bull and produced Freedoms dam, BHR R389 and here are the results:
BW 89, WW 707, YW 1065, back fat 0.24, REA 12.80, REA/cwt 1.20, IMF 4.58, frame 6.8. Freedoms data is just as impressive until you get to an IMF
of 6.11, which was improved by her sire RRJS Three Sixes 327W, the BHR Three Sixes son out of an EXT Angus cow that did not have much IMF.
LOOK at Freedom and I think that you will agree that she represents what the beef cattle industry is all about. She is moderate framed, wide based,
strong topped, full of red meat and has the data and the proven pedigree to say that she is for real. Look at her full brothers data listed under Lot 62 and

Her EPD’S probably are as correct as any EPD’S for Fleckvieh cattle. Excellent growth numbers with a lot of milk but there is birth weight that you have
to contend with.

I stacked the pedigree in the opposite direction in Jane’s pedigree and infused a touch of calving ease from Ashante. Jane started with an 80 pound
birth weight and then went on to wean at 620 during a tough year.
Jane probably doesn’t have as much read meat as does Gladys but she has the depth of rib, width of base, strength of top and that perfect shoulder
and neck structure.
Her numbers do reflect the maternal line of Ashante that I added in comparison to Gladys number. Not quite as much growth but better calving ease
and birth weight.

Because I believe that the Fleckvieh/Red Angus cross is the best cross in the world, I still maintain a small select herd of Red Angus to produce both
females and bulls to use in my SimAngus program WINNIFRIED is a product of that program. She is a Next Cherokee daughter out of a Brown Revalation that is a Glacier Logan 210 daughter.
Look at the depth of rib and smoothness of top in this female. Then check out the red meat shown by her muscle expression. Last but not least check her
pedigree and you will see she is a total package.
Breed her Red Angus or Fleckvieh, either way will work for sure or put a halter on her because she will compete.

If you just go through the sale cattle and evaluate the Jungle cattle you will see that he is doing a fantastic job. He passes on that super depth of rib
with a smooth flat muscle structure as well as a super disposition Then look at his numbers for calving ease, weaning, yearling, milk, MWW, yield grade
and back fat and you will see that he can also fix a lot of things in the numbers category. If you look further at his progeny you will see that he transmits
a lot of IMF which his numbers don’t show.

Lucky Strike was purchased from Roy Phillips by BHR and Cody McCollum of Flying M Ranch. He is a super 1/2 Fleck sire out of RPF Pol Right Direction and a super Brahman cow whose dam heads the donor program at V8 Ranches and for Carlos Lee in Panama.
His number show him in the top 5% for CE, Birth, Milk and top 10% for MWW and he has an API in the top 30%.
Cody and I are using Lucky Strike to make some 3/4 Simmental 1/4 Brahman males and females that are Fleckvieh based for the Simbrah industry. Can’t
wait to see his first calves.
