This Carrier furnace offers a patented algorithm that continually monitors and adjusts furnace operation by looking at both current and past conditions to determine the most effective stage of heating and the amount of time to run each stage, every cycle. Ideal Humidity SystemR Technology — The Ideal Humidity system actively controls both temperature and humidity in the home to provide the best comfort all year long. Other systems depend on heating or cooling demand to manage the moisture in the air. But, Ideal Humidity gives the homeowner the right amount of humidity day and night, even in mild weather. No other manufacturer can do this! Ideal Humidity saves energy, too. By keeping humidity under control, the homeowner can set their thermostat lower to stay comfortable and save energy. SmartEvapt Technology — When paired with a compatible thermostat, this dehumidification feature overrides the cooling blower off-delay when there is a call for dehumidification. By deactivating the blower off-delay, SmartEvap technology prevents condensate that remains on the coil after a dehumidification cycle from re-humidifying throughout the home. This results in reduced humidity and a more comfortable indoor environment for the homeowner. Unlike competitive systems, SmartEvap technology only overrides the cooling blower off--delay when humidity control is needed. Once humidity is back in control, SmartEvap re-enables the energy-saving cooling blower off-delay. ComfortFant Technology — Sometimes the constant fan setting on a standard furnace system can actually reduce homeowner comfort by providing too much or too little air! Comfort Fan technology improves comfort all year long by allowing the homeowner to select the continuous fan speed of their choice using a compatible thermostat. HYBRID HEATR Dual Fuel System — This system can provide more control over your monthly energy bills by automatically selecting the most economical method of heating. With HYBRID HEAT components, our system automatically switches between the gas furnace and the electric heat pump as outside temperatures change to maintain greater efficiency and comfort than with any traditional single-source heating system. The heat pump also delivers high-efficiency cooling in the summer. Power Heatt Igniter — Carrier’s unique SiN igniter is not only physically robust but it is also electrically robust. It is capable of running at line voltage and does not require complex voltage regulators as do other brands. This unique feature further enhances the gas furnace reliability and continues Carrier’s tradition of technology leadership and innovation in providing a reliable and durable product. Full-Featured, Communicating, Variable Speed Motors — Our ECMs (Electronically Commutated Motors) provide variable-speed operation to optimize comfort levels in the home year round; features such as passive/active dehumidification, ramping profiles, COOLING CFM @ 0.5 ESP MOTOR HP (VARIABLE SPEED) MEDIA CABINET SUPPLIED (IN.) APPROX. SHIP WT. (LB) 510 - 1335 490 - 1375 750 - 1945 715 - 2160 885 - 2185 1/2 1/2 1 1 1 16 16 20 20 24 140 150 155 165 189 air flow and quiet operation. They can provide cooling match enhancements to increase the effective SEER of select Carrier air conditioner or heat pump system, and feature the highest efficiency of all indoor fan motors. Reliable Heat Exchanger Design — The aluminized steel, clam shell primary heat exchanger was re--engineered to achieve greater efficiency out of a smaller size. The first two passes of the heat exchanger are based on the current 80% product, a design with more than ten years of field-proven performance and success. These innovations, paired with the continuation of a crimped, no-weld seam create an efficient, robust design for this essential component. The condensing heat exchanger, a stainless steel fin and tube design, is positioned in the furnace to extract additional heat. Stainless steel coupling box componentry between heat exchangers has exceptional corrosion resistance in both natural gas and propane applications. Media Filter Cabinet — Enhanced indoor air quality in the home is made easier with our media filter cabinet—a standard accessory on all deluxe furnaces. When installed as a part of the system, this cabinet allows for easy and convenient addition of a Carrier high efficiency air filter. 4-Way Multipoise Design — One model for all applications – there is no need to stock special downflow or horizontal models when one unit will do it all. The new heat exchanger design allows these units to achieve the certified AFUE in all positions. Direct or Single-pipe Venting, or Optional Ventilated Combustion Air — This furnace can be installed as a 2-pipe (Direct Vent) furnace, in an optional ventilated combustion air application, or in single-pipe, non-direct vent applications. This provides added flexibility to meet diverse installation needs. Sealed Combustion System — This furnace brings in combustion air from outside the furnace, which results in especially quiet operation. By sealing the entire combustion vestibule, the entire furnace can be made quieter, not just the burners. Insulated Casing — Foil-faced insulation in the heat exchanger section of the casing minimizes heat loss. The acoustical insulation in the blower compartment reduces air and motor noise for quiet operation. Monoport Burners — The burners are specially designed and finely tuned for smooth, quiet combustion and economical operation. Bottom Closure — Factory-installed for side return; easily removable for bottom return. The multi-use bottom closure can also serve for roll-out protection in horizontal applications, and act as the bottom closure for the optional return air base accessory. Blower Access Panel Switch — Automatically shuts off 115-v power to furnace whenever blower access panel is opened. Quality Registration — Our furnaces are engineered and manufactured under an ISO 9001 registered quality system. Certifications — This furnace is CSA (AGA and CGA) design certified for use with natural and propane gases. The furnace is factory--shipped for use with natural gas. A CSA listed gas conversion kit is required to convert furnace for use with propane gas. The efficiency is AHRI efficiency rating certified. This furnace meets California Air Quality Management District emission requirements. 2 SPECIFICATIONS Heating Capacity and Efficiency High Heat Input Low Heat High Heat Output Low Heat Efficiency Certified Temperature Rise Range ºF (ºC) Airflow Capacity and Blower Data Rated External Static Pressure (in. w.c.) Set SW1-5 to ON for nominal 400 CFM/ton (+15% airflow). Set SW4-3 to ON for nominal 325 CFM/ton (-7% airflow). Set both SW1-5 and SW4-3 to ON for nominal 370 CFM/ton (+7% airflow). The above adjustments in airflow are subject to motor horsepower range/capacity. Maximum cooling airflow is achieved when switches SW2-1, SW2-2, SW2-3 and SW1-5 are set to ON, and SW4-3 is set to OFF. All heating CFM's are when low heat rise adjustment switch (SW1-3) and comfort/efficiency adjustment switch (SW1-4) are both set to OFF. Ductwork must be sized for high-heating CFM within the operational range of ESP. Operation within the blank areas of the chart is not recommended because high-heat operation will be above 1.0 ESP. All airflows on 21" (533 mm) casing size furnaces are 5% less on side return only installations. Side returns for 24.5" (622 mm) casing sizes require two sides, or side and bottom, to allow sufficient airflow at the return of the furnace. Airflows over 1800 CFM require bottom return, two-side return, or bottom and side return; otherwise excessive watt draws may result. A minimum filter size of 20" x 25" (508 x 635 mm) is required. 7 59TN6A COOLING4 MEDIA FILTER CABINET 25-5/8" (651mm) 24-1/4” (616mm) Opening with Flanges Bent 23-1/8” (588mm) Opening 23-5/8" (600mm) 23-3/8” (594mm) B Opening 59TN6A A Duct Side Furnace Side 23-3/4” (603mm) Centerline Screw Slots 5 3 4" (146mm) Media Filter A B Cabinet 16" (406mm) 17" (432mm) 16" (406mm) 20" (508mm) 21" (533mm) 20" (508mm) 24" (610mm) 25" (635mm) 24" (610mm) NOTE: Media cabinet is matched to the bottom opening on furnace. The coils are available for use in R--410A and R--22 refrigerant systems. Both designs have a painted case and come with factory--installed thermostatic expansion valves (TXV). The coils are offered in different width configurations for use in multiple installation applications. Additionally, they are offered in a transition configuration, a design which simplifies making field--supplied transition duct configurations. Easy maintenance is provided as the coil slides out of the cabinet after removing the access door and service panel. The coils are available in sizes 018 through 061 (1--1/2 to 5 tons). Transition coil models CNPVT are designed for use with one size smaller width furnaces without field modifications. Aluminum Coils -- “L” models are built with aluminum hairpins, designed to resist both general pitting corrosion and excessive indoor Formicary Corrosion. (Formicary Corrosion is an industry phenomenon.) STANDARD FEATURES A06007 CNPVT (Transition) A06004 CN(P,R)VU Water Management — These coil designs do an excellent job of water management. The coils are designed to avoid water blow--off into the ducts by directing condensate away from the fins and into the drain pan. Durable Condensate Pan — Each coil is equipped with a corrosion--resistant condensate drain pan. The condensate drain pan is designed with a slope to help ensure proper drainage, improved moisture removal, and home comfort. Compact Design — Unique design offers as much as 2 to 4 in. (51 to 102 mm) less in height to aid in tight installations. Brass Inserts — Every condensate pan features two 3/4 in. female threaded brass insert connections. The unique brass inserts provide for a leak--free condensate line connection to prevent water damage. Refrigerant Connections — The coils are provided with proven sweat--connections for leak--free operation maintaining system reliability. Burst Pressures — These coils meet or exceed burst pressure of 2100 psi which is at least three to five times the pressure they will see in actual application. Thermostatic Expansion Valves (TXV) — All Payne coils have refrigerant--specific factory--installed TXVs. Teflon Ring — The ring, installed inside the liquid line connection at the TXV, is the best option for preventing refrigerant leaks and future service calls. Teflon works with both R--410A and R--22 refrigerants. Protective Tube Sheets — Protect the durable copper tubing from being damaged during the manufacturing and installation process. Contact manufacturer for cooling capacities at conditions other than shown in table. 2. Formulas: Leaving db = entering db -- sensible heat cap. 1.09 x CFM Leaving wb = wb corresponding to enthalpy of air leaving coil (hLWB) hLWB = hEWB -- total capacity (Btuh) 4.5 x CFM 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Where hEWB = enthalpy of air entering coil SHC is based on 80°F (27°C) db temperature of air entering the evaporator coil. Below 80°F (27°C) db, subtract (Correction Factor x CFM) from SHC. Above 80°F (27°C) db, add (Correction Factor x CFM) to SHC. Direct interpolation is permissible. Do not extrapolate. Fan motor heat has not been deducted. All data points are based on 10°F (--12°C) superheat leaving coil and use of thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) device. All units have sweat suction--tube connection and a liquid--tube connection. For 1--1/8--in. system suction tube, 3/4 x 1--1/8--in. suction tube connection adapter is available as accessory. The CNPVP, CNPVT and CNPVU coils can be used in any properly designed system using R--410A refrigerant. The CNRVU coils can be used in any properly designed system using R--22 refrigerant. Before using maximum cfm shown in table, check coil static pressure drop to ensure system blower can provide necessary static pressure needed for coil and duct systems. Bypass Factor = 0 indicates no psychometric solution. Use bypass factor of next lower EWB for approximation. BYPASS FACTOR 79 (26) 81 (27) 0.10 0.20 0.30 0.98 0.87 0.76 Interpolation is permissible. Accessory Description and Usage (Listed Alphabetically) 1. Ball--Bearing Fan Motor A fan motor with ball bearings which permits speed reduction while maintaining bearing lubrication. Usage Guideline: Required on all units when MotorMasterr is used. 2. Compressor Start Assist -- Capacitor and Relay Start capacitor and relay gives a ”hard” boost to compressor motor at each start up. Usage Guideline: Required for reciprocating compressors in the following applications: Long line Low ambient cooling Hard shut off expansion valve on indoor coil Liquid line solenoid on indoor coil Required for single--phase scroll compressors in the following applications: Long line Low ambient cooling Suggested for all compressors in areas with a history of low voltage problems. 3. Compressor Start Assist — PTC Type Solid state electrical device which gives a ”soft” boost to the compressor at each start--up. Usage Guideline: Suggested in installations with marginal power supply. 4. Crankcase Heater An electric resistance heater which mounts to the base of the compressor to keep the lubricant warm during off cycles. Improves compressor lubrication on restart and minimizes the chance of liquid slugging. Usage Guideline: Required in low ambient cooling applications. Required in long line applications. Suggested in all commercial applications. 5. Cycle Protector The cycle protector is designed to prevent compressor short cycling. This control provides an approximate 5--minute delay after power to the compressor has been interrupted for any reason, including power outage, protector control trip, thermostat jiggling, or normal cycling. 6. Evaporator Freeze Thermostat An SPST temperature--actuated switch that stops unit operation when evaporator reaches freeze--up conditions. Usage Guideline: Required when low ambient kit has been added. 7. Low--Ambient Pressure Switch Kit A long life pressure switch which is mounted to outdoor unit service valve. It is designed to cycle the outdoor fan motor in order to maintain head pressure within normal operating limits (approximately 100 psig to 225 psig). The control will maintain working head pressure at low--ambient temperatures down to 0_F (--18_C) when properly installed. Usage Guideline: A Low--Ambient Pressure Switch or MotorMasterr Low--Ambient Controller must be used when cooling operation is used at outdoor temperatures below 55_F (12.8_C). 8. MotorMasterr Low--Ambient Controller A fan--speed control device activated by a temperature sensor, designed to control condenser fan motor speed in response to the saturated, condensing temperature during operation in cooling mode only. For outdoor temperatures down to --20_F (--28.9_C), it maintains condensing temperature at 100_F 10_F (37.8_C 5.5_C). Usage Guideline: A MotorMasterr Low Ambient Controller or Low--Ambient Pressure Switch must be used when cooling operation is used at outdoor temperatures below 55_F (12.8_C). Suggested for all commercial applications. 9. Outdoor Air Temperature Sensor Designed for use with Carrier Thermostats listed in this publication. This device enables the thermostat to display the outdoor temperature. This device also is required to enable special thermostat features such as auxiliary heat lock out. Usage Guideline: Suggested for all Carrier thermostats listed in this publication. 6 Accessory Description and Usage (Listed Alphabetically) (Continued) 13. Time--Delay Relay An SPST delay relay which briefly continues operation of indoor blower motor to provide additional cooling after the compressor cycles off. NOTE: Most indoor unit controls include this feature. For those that do not, use the guideline below. Usage Guideline: For improved efficiency ratings for certain combinations of indoor and outdoor units. Refer to AHRI Unitary Directory. 14. Winter Start Control This control is designed to alleviate nuisance opening of the low--pressure switch by bypassing it for the first 3 minutes of operation. 10. Sound Hood Wraparound sound reducing cover for the compressor. Reduces the sound level by about 2 dBA. Usage Guideline: Suggested when unit is installed closer than 15 ft (4.57 m) to quiet areas, bedrooms, etc. Suggested when unit is installed between two houses less than 10 ft (3.05 m) apart. 11. Support Feet Four stick--on plastic feet that raise the unit 4 in. (101.6 mm) above the mounting pad. This allows sand, dirt, and other debris to be flushed from the unit base, minimizing corrosion. Usage Guideline: Suggested in the following applications: Coastal installations. Windy areas or where debris is normally circulating. Rooftop installations. For improved sound ratings. 12. Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) A modulating flow--control valve which meters refrigerant liquid flow rate into the evaporator in response to the superheat of the refrigerant gas leaving the evaporator. Kit includes valve, adapter tubes, and external equalizer tube. Hard shut off types are available. NOTE: When using a hard shut off TXV with single phase reciprocating compressors, a Compressor Start Assist Capacitor and Relay is required. Usage Guideline: Required to achieve AHRI ratings in certain equipment combinations. Refer to combination ratings. Hard shut off TXV or LLS required in air conditioner long line applications. Required for use on all zoning systems. 7 ELECTRICAL DATA UNIT SIZE OPER VOLTS* V/PH MCA MAX FUSE** or CKT BRK AMPS LRA RLA FLA 48.0 9.0 0.50 11.8 20 24--- 30 58.3 13.5 0.75 17.7 30 30--- 30 64.0 12.8 0.75 16.8 25 36--- 30 77.0 14.1 0.50 18.1 30 112.0 17.9 1.20 23.6 40 48--- 31 109.0 19.9 1.20 26.1 40 49--- 30 117.0 21.8 1.20 28.4 40 60--- 30 135.0 21.4 1.20 28.0 40 208/230/1 ---60 MIN FAN 18--- 31 42--- 30 MAX COMPR 253 197 61--- 30 134.0 25.0 1.20 32.5 * Permissible limits of the voltage range at which the unit will operate satisfactorily ** Time ---Delay fuse. Full-Featured, Communicating, Variable Speed Motors — Our ECMs (Electronically Commutated Motors) provide variable-speed operation to optimize comfort levels in the home year round; features such as passive/active dehumidification, ramping profiles, COOLING CFM @ 0.5 ESP MOTOR HP (VARIABLE SPEED) MEDIA CABINET SUPPLIED (IN.) They can provide cooling match enhancements to increase the effective SEER of select Carrier air conditioner or heat pump system, and feature the highest efficiency of all indoor fan motors. The GEN II controls a zoned 2H/2C Gas/Electric HVAC unit or 3H/2C zoned Heat Pump unit and communicates with and supports up to 17 zones, utilizing pressure dependent, modulating dampers. The GEN II gathers information every 60 seconds from each thermostat in the system over an unshielded twowire data link. The GEN II is equipped with integrated capacity control. The HVAC unit is staged on leaving air temperature and time. The Leaving Air Temperature is also displayed on the system controller. Cooling or Heating management is vote based, predicated upon first called, first served, with majority regulating changeover. When the current mode callers are satisfied, a fiveminute purge cycle is initiated prior to mode changeover. Additional control strategies, including variance from setpoint, are also selectable features to initiate changeover. The GEN II provides a software based feature to assign priority. A priority vote of 1, 2 or 3 votes may be established for every stat in the system at the GEN II controller. The GEN II controller is equipped with a lock / unlock feature providing a central point to remotely lock all the ModStats in the system. Locked thermostats will support a +/- 2 degree local adjustment. Each thermostat also supports a two-hour override during unoccupied periods at the touch of a button. A night / day switch on the controller allows the ability to establish an unoccupied Heat and Cool setpoint to be set on each thermostat. An optional time clock toggles the system from occupied to unoccupied mode of operation. The SAMOD II is used in stand alone damper applications where independent sub control is required. The SAMOD II does not control or cycle the HVAC equipment. The space ambient temperature is continuously displayed on the SAMOD II. An accurate duct sensor is installed upstream of the damper. For Auto changeover operation the duct temperature is compared to the room ambient for changeover. If the DAT is 3 F. or less than room ambient, the SAMOD II recognizes that cooling air is available for the zone. If the DAT is 7 F. or warmer than the room ambient, the SAMOD II has warm air available for heating the zone. The damper will modulate to maintain room temperature based on variance from set point. If no heating or cooling calls exist, the Supply air temperatures between the changeover set points will be considered as a ventilation mode, and the damper will provide ventilation and continuous circulation to the space. By holding the UP and DN buttons on the SAMOD II, duct temperature readings will be displayed at the thermostat providing current temperature information and set points. In the event of power loss, the set points are stored in a non-volatile memory, without need for battery backup. The SAMOD II is equipped with a Auxiliary contact to control a supplemental heating source, such as baseboard, radiant, duct heater or VAV box. The second stage is activated from the thermostat when the room temperature falls 2 below the heat set point. NOTE: An air proving switch (field supplied) must be used for reheat applications. A field supplied relay may be required for VAV box applications. SAMOD II is very versatile and may be utilized in a communicating format with the ZonexCommander family of DDC products. The room temperature and set points may be remotely displayed and revised via the Zonex software. This software also provides 7-day scheduling, the ability to remotely lock the SAMOD II, review or modify set points, and trend log on site or remotely over the Internet. The 101ASPC monitors differential pressure between the supply duct and the ambient pressure. Electrical: The contacts will switch state as the static pressure in the supply duct changes with varying zone damper positions. As the 101ASPC set point is obtained, the contacts will remain neutral within a +/- range of .04” w.c. , The damper will then remain in its last position. When the static pressure in the duct changes beyond the hysteresis, contact state will be made according to the change in duct pressure. Supply Voltage: N/A Power consumption: N/A Input: • 24vac Outputs: • 24vac (Run open) • 24vac (Run closed) General: Range: 0 to 2.0” w.c. Hysteresis: .04” w.c.
