S.I. originated as Spontaneous Interventions: Design Actions for the
Common Good, an exhibition in the U.S. Pavilion at the 2012 Venice
Architecture Biennale. S.I. has grown into an ideas platform that celebrates
community-based actions to improve public space. This is its third year in
residency as a program partner of the Trust for Governors Island. In 2014,
S.I. debuted in Building 403 on Colonel’s Row, organizing dozens of public
programs, including the Official FIFA 2014 World Cup Viewing Zone, which
drew more than 25,000 spectators.

2016 Summer Programs
The Beautiful Game is an exhibition of photographs by British artist Simon Harsent. This
series shows football pitches not as euphoric
temples of action and emotion, as they are
usually seen, but as everyday places. On view
through July. / S.I. is proud to partner with
Movement Creative, a nonprofit that encourages healthy interaction with our cities through
parkour and movement. The group has created a playscape (outside House
20A) and is offering free movement workshops and events all summer. For
