Why “Grapevine is Open for Business”
Grapevine City Manager,
Bruno Rumbelow will be the

The topic of the discussion will

Rumbelow was appointed City

Prior to becoming the Assistant

In the last couple of years,
the
economic
challenges
facing businesses have been
significant. Corporations have
had to find ways to do more,
with less. Budgets have been
dramatically altered, and each
line item has to be considered
on an individual basis. No
business has been unaffected
by the economic climate we
face together.
That brings me to my thoughts
on the Chamber of Commerce.

decide that is an easy one to
cross off the list. Unfortunately
for those who do that, they
haven’t taken the time to really
understand all that a Chamber

for their business. There is

A Closer Look at the Grapevine
Chamber of Commerce
Continued from page 1
Commerce have been in existence for more than
240 years.
In the United States, the first Chamber of
Commerce was created in 1768 in New York City.
Its stated objectives encompassed “encouraging
commerce, supporting industry, adjusting
disputes relative to trade and navigation, and
producing such laws and regulations as may
be found necessary for the benefit of trade in
general.” Businesses throughout the United
States have found that, while each city’s Chamber
may have a slightly different mission, the overall
strength of this type of organization is the ability
for businesses to work together on common
goals and objectives.
In Grapevine, the Chamber of Commerce
is many things to many people. For some, it
provides the opportunity to have lunch with
the City Manager and Council members, School
Superintendent, state and national elected
officials and area business executives once a
month. Over the course of an hour each month,
it provides current information on roads,
legislation, economic development projects
and community events. To those moving to
Grapevine, along with business owners and
individuals already in Grapevine, it provides an
online resource promoting businesses in the area.
Also, it provides ways to network our businesses
in a morning, noon, or evening meeting – fitting
any schedule. Most importantly, the Grapevine
Chamber is an opportunity for us, as business
owners, managers and employees to reach out to
each other in both the good times and bad, with
a proven means of communication and support.
Whether you are a corporation the size of
the Gaylord Texan, or a home-based business
owner, the value of this organization can be
tremendous, if you choose to take advantage of
all that is offered. Our individual investments
in our business community are what makes the
collective results worth so much more than our
“dues” cost to our bottom line. I encourage you
to get involved in your Chamber of Commerce
and work with the businesses that make up your
Chamber’s Board of Directors to continue to
grow our investment in the community where
we live, work and play.

Must Be Present To Win
Those in attendance for the June luncheon saw the “Must Be
Present to Win” drawing begin its climb again as Cindy Blankenship
with Bank of the West, Grapevine Main Street was called for the
prize. With her not attending the luncheon, the drawing gained
another $50 and now sits at $150. Each month at the luncheon,
the drawing will grow as long as the person whose name is called
is not in attendance. All you have to do is show up! How easy is
that? All Chamber members’ names are in the drawing, sponsored
by the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. Cash in on
your membership investment by
attending the monthly luncheon
for your chance to win!

It’s
Time for
GrapeFest!
The 25th Annual GrapeFest is coming up September 1518 in Historic Downtown Grapevine, and the Chamber is
looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to work
in our Concession Trailer (or Dog Wagon) and Beer Booth!
We have shifts available throughout the weekend. If you
or a team from your business is interested in taking a shift
for either the Concession Trailer or Beer Booth, please
contact the Chamber at (817) 481-1522 or email william@
grapevinechamber.org. Complimentary passes for the day
you volunteer are available.
This is a great opportunity to get your business in front of
the community by staffing an entire shift with individuals
from your business. By taking an entire shift, you will have
a sign with your business’ name posted, and you are also
welcome to wear a shirt with you business’ name on it while
you volunteer! What a simple way to advertise!

The Education Foundation of the Grapevine-
Networking with
Business Builders
Business Builders is the Chamber’s newest networking
group. Meeting from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on the 2nd
and 4th Wednesdays of each month, Business Builders
exists to build relationships and foster meaningful
discussion. After arriving and ordering lunch, each
individual briefly introduces themselves and their
business, then a “Spotlight Speaker” will be introduced
and speak for five minutes. This will be followed by an
open forum discussion on various business topics.
The location will remain the same each quarter, with
the current meeting location being Napoli’s Italian Cafe
& Confectionery (309 S. Main St., #100, in Grapevine).
The meeting will be conducted with a new moderator
each quarter as well. David Kelm, with Bank of America,
will moderate this quarter, and as the location moves to
Red Dog Right (3311 E. State Hwy. 114, in Southlake) in
Oct. for the last quarter, Linda Steinhaus, with Vineyard
Office Center, will take over moderating duties.
If you are looking for a way to meet Chamber
members, joining this group is one of the easiest ways.
It’s free to attend, and the only thing you pay for is your
lunch! Join us this month and come make connections
with your fellow Chamber members.

The GC Education Foundation provides funds
for educational programs and activities for students
and staff. Foundation funds facilitate student
achievement and skill development, recognize and
encourage staff excellence and expand community
involvement from individuals, businesses and civic
organizations. The Foundation has touched the
lives of many teachers and students in the district,
distributing more than $1.4 million in teaching
grants and designated awards. This is a wonderful
opportunity to share in community spirit and
support for educators. For more than 35 years,
this event has provided a delightful and thoughtful
memory that lingers in the hearts and minds of
GCISD educators.

Grapevine Chamber of
Commerce Women’s Division
“Together WE Can!” continues to be the
Women’s Division’s mantra as demonstrated in all
our activities this past month.
At our July 19 luncheon meeting, members
were informed of the Future Planning Task Force
teams’ efforts to-date with final recommendations
to be presented to the membership in September.
Members were encouraged to participate in an electronic survey
to assist the Task Force teams. In addition, a new concept for the
annual holiday anniversary benefit that raises funds for Christmas
Spirit projects (supporting our community’s senior and disabled
citizens and school children) was announced by co-chairs Kathee
Livengood, Clydene Johnson and Carolyn Sims. Mark your
calendars NOW for the Women’s Division’s 2011 anniversary
celebration - “Ho Ho Hoedown!” -Thursday, December 15,
2011, 6 p.m., at Willhoites in historic downtown Grapevine, the
Christmas Capital of Texas! More details to come!
Regarding our Christmas Spirit projects, Santa and his reindeers
were surprised by the Texas heat, but not as surprised as the 100
Grapevine seniors the Women’s Division treated with visits and
special gifts during our “Christmas in July” project. Thanks to
everyone who volunteered to assist with organizing the gift bags
and delivery!
It’s difficult to believe the summer is half over and we are preparing
for the upcoming school session. The Women’s Division is seeking
assistance with collection of backpacks needed for children in
GCISD. Please consider supporting this very worthy cause. You can
drop off NEW backpacks at the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce
or contribute funds to this project. Donations can be made on the
Women’s Division’s website at www.grapevinechamber-womensdiv.
com, in person, or by mail to the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce
or by contacting Robin Smith at [email protected].
What a blast from the past with loads of good food and
entertainment at this year’s SeniorFest with a “Roaring 20’s” theme
on Saturday, July 23, at the Grapevine Convention Center! Thanks
to co-chairs, Helen Jean Lucas Reid, Kirsten Karlsen and Sandi
Urban and their fun-loving and dedicated committee and the many
generous sponsors! The Women’s Division hosted almost 300 senior
citizens with food catered by Willhoite’s, music provided by the Matt
Tolentino Band, and even some Charleston and other dances enjoyed
by all. The highlight of the evening was honoring the Veteran of the
Year, Mr. Laurie Crāpo, and all the other veterans in attendance.
The Women’s Division luncheon meeting on Tuesday, August
16 will feature Texas State Representative Vicki Truitt, presenting
information regarding this year’s legislative session. For more
information about Women’s Division, membership, and to RSVP
for the luncheon, please contact Carolyn Lease, President-Elect, at
[email protected] or 817-501-8596, or visit our website.
We know that thanks to all of you, “Together WE Can!” be
successful to better serve those in need and our entire community.
