O`hare South Air Traffic Control Tower
O’hare South Air Traffic Control Tower
Since 1981, Christopher Glass & Aluminum has built a reputation for excellence in commercial
glazing and architectural metal services.
The $45 million, 207’ tall South Air Traffic Control Tower & base building at Chicago’s O’Hare International
Airport features a unique architectural design– the tower shaft features a see through, open staircase
protected by a continuous curtain wall. Each of the 8 massive panes of cab glass measure 8.75’ by
11’ and over 1 1/2” inches in thickness! An extensive green roof & geothermal heating/cooling are
expected to reduce costs by 14%. This is only the third ATCT in the US to achieve LEED Gold.
Owner: Chicago Department of Aviation; Walsh Construction, general contractor; design by exp US Services.
