United Way of Central Oklahoma is many things to many people, but the core of our
mission is the dedication to improve the quality of life for individuals and families
right here in central Oklahoma. For some, that means a safe shelter and wise council,
for others it’s a chance to build confidence and make friends at summer camp. Because
of you, central Oklahoma residents had access to all that and more.
At the center of every strong community, there’s a small group of people whose
compassion and leadership set the course for others to follow. The names listed in this
registry represent those individuals that are showing central Oklahoma what it means
to LIVE UNITED. We are eternally grateful for your investment in United Way and

Leadership Giving Reception
Every spring an exclusive reception honors the members of United
Way’s Leadership Giving Societies. We come together to share good
food and the good company of friends. We toast to the generosity of
more than 5,000 donors who care deeply about their neighbors and
lead the way in improving the well-being of our communities.
We appreciate our friends at Classen Curve for their partnership
and support of the 2014 event, which allowed us to acknowledge
and thank those who so graciously LIVE UNITED for the common
good of central Oklahoma.

Jim and Christy along with their children and
grandchildren have been involved in numerous
causes, advancing the common good by
financially supporting and volunteering with many
organizations, schools and churches. Even 10 year
old grandson, Peter FitzSimons understands the
value of giving as he recently shaved his head in
support St. Baldrick’s Foundation. They have been
recognized on many occasions for their dedication
to philanthropy and community service.
“Christy and I believe in giving back, not only
monetarily, but of our time,” said Jim Everest.
United Way of Central Oklahoma has benefited
from the involvement of the Everest family.
They have invested in building a stronger, more
compassionate community as they have been
long-time members of the Alexis de Tocqueville
Society and Christy is a recipient of the Richard H.
Clements Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Everest’s longtime giving is truly a reflection of
their personal values. “Our community can best
grow and thrive when we pull together our time,
talent and resources to help meet some of the most
challenging issues facing people,” says Christy
Everest. “We believe it is essential to give back to
the community to help change lives, inspire hope,
and encourage individuals and families.”

began making small donations in the 1970’s when my
employer at the time asked us to support the United Way
campaign. However, we decided to get more involved
and to begin to support the United Way campaigns when
I was invited onto the board of directors. As a board
member, I was able to learn so much more about the
good things that our non-profit partners were doing to
help the less fortunate members of our community. Since
that time, we have supported the United Way campaign
in a very aggressive way.”

Emerging Leaders
Central Oklahoma has a special niche for young adults aspiring to be the leaders of tomorrow.
United Way offers young adults contributing at a level of $500 and above a unique opportunity to
join their own affinity group, Emerging Leaders. This group not only contributes financially, but is
also dedicated to giving back with their time.
Members participate in numerous community volunteer activities throughout the year, including
an Easter egg hunt for low-income families, a fall carnival at Special Care and a holiday
dance for seniors at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City’s Trinity Garden
Apartments.
Emerging Leaders also have the opportunity to network with their peers and learn valuable
lessons from community leaders. Through this year’s Lunches with Leaders series, members
heard from established business leaders including Bruce Lawrence, INTEGRIS Health, Donna
Lawrence, Success Redesign, and Rob Neu, Oklahoma City Public School Superintendent.
Emerging Leaders also connected with United Way Partner Agency directors Dan Straughan,
Homeless Alliance and Pam Newby, Special Care.

Women’s Leadership Society
The United Way of Central Oklahoma Women’s Leadership Society unites women— their
time, talent and resources— into a powerful network of individuals devoted to enhancing and
strengthening intergeneration opportunities within our community. With an annual donation of
$2,500 or more, these women leverage the collective power of women supporting United Way of
Central Oklahoma.
The Women’s Leadership Society provides a number of educational opportunities with renowned
speakers and researchers on topics such as generational giving habits and issues that currently
affect central Oklahoma, including mental health and homelessness. In addition, the Society
hosts events that provide a benefit to the community. This year’s occasion was a baby shower for
low-income mothers.
A nationally-recognized group of female philanthropists, Women’s Leadership Society’s ultimate
focus is to develop new leadership for the community through learning opportunities and the
encouragement of intergenerational interaction and mentoring.
