The show is “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.” The movie was made in 1948 with Cary Grant and Myrna Loy and revolves around a suave but hapless couple building a new home in Connecticut and being taken advantage of by the locals. Venice Neighborhood has its very own Dream House. The Venice home at 2723 NW 32nd is a replica of the house in the movie and was built in 1948. The house was one of the first homes built on the west side of Venice Boulevard and sat by itself for a year before other homes were built nearby. The original owners were the McCormicks and the home is now owned by Brian and Trinity Smith. Copies of the home was used in the movie were built across the nation in the late 1940’s to promote General Electric’s home appliances. The house is a very traditional New England colonial home that looks in many ways to have been built in the 1740’s. The home was featured on our 2005 home tour and is unique even for our interesting old neighborhood. If you are interested in having your home on our 2006 home tour, please give one of the neighborhood officers a call. Now is a great time to start planning for the tour that we will have in early October. —Thank you, David Thach Come to our Venice Neighborhood Association meeting February 9, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Meet our new VNA officers: David Thach, President; Robyn Arn, Vice-President; Kristall Bright, Treasurer; Gina LeBeouf, Secretary.
