Foreword
In Switzerland, everyone is familiar with Coop. However,
Coop is far more than just the well-known supermarket
around the corner. The Coop Group also includes a wide
variety of different sales formats that do not display the
Coop logo, as well as wholesale and manufacturing companies. The aim of this information brochure is to give you an
insight into the colourful world of the Coop Group and show
you the diversity of our range of products and services.
With its two core areas of retail and wholesale / production,
the Coop Group is able to maintain a firm footing, both
in Switzerland and in Europe as a whole. It is of particular
concern to us that the different business areas within the
Coop Group should increasingly work together and benefit
from one another.
We are especially proud of our environmentally and socially
responsible ranges and our sustainable products and
services. We play a pioneering role in this area and have
already won several national and international awards.
This recognition spurs us on to continue our commitment
with conviction and enjoyment.
Our employees, who attend to their many and varied tasks
with passion, form the basis of our success. We are in
good shape and therefore look forward to facing the future
together and tackling the challenges that will come our way.

OUR
SALES FORMATS
Coop is close to people. Ten minutes is
all that 99% of the Swiss population need to
reach their nearest Coop outlet. As well as
supermarkets, the Coop Group also includes
many other well-known specialist shops.
Coop has the densest network of sales outlets in
Switzerland. These include supermarkets at an
altitude of almost 2 000 metres, megastores with
a surface area of over 3 500 m2, department
stores at customer-friendly locations in major
conurbations, Building & Hobby centres in all
regions of Switzerland and numerous specialist
stores that do not display the Coop logo. Thanks
to these many sales formats, Coop is able to offer
consumers an extensive, expertly-selected range
of products to meet a wide variety of needs.
And if there’s occasionally not enough time to
visit a branch during opening hours, Coop’s
various online shops can be accessed 24 hours
a day. They are in no way inferior to our physical
stores when it comes to choice of products.

A PIONEER IN
SUSTAINABLE
PRODUCTS
The shopping habits of consumers have a
considerable influence on the environment
and society. Coop has a key role to play here.
We offer our customers the most comprehensive and attractive range of environmentally and socially responsible products.
For many years, Coop has been the market
leader in environmentally friendly, humanely
produced and socially responsible products.
Almost every second organic product sold in
Switzerland passes a Coop check-out. Coop
is the world’s leading company in marketing
fair-trade organic cotton and also ranks first
in Switzerland and among the world’s leading
retailers of Fairtrade Max Havelaar-certified
products.
Coop has worked hard to achieve this status.
The factors behind our success are long-term
visions, dedicated employees, continuous
efforts in the sphere of range selection and
communication, cooperation with credible
and professional partners, and investments in
innovation and research.

SUSTAINABILITY
AT COOP –
ACTIONS, NOT
WORDS
Sustainability is an integral aspect of
Coop’s business activities and, as
such, is firmly enshrined in our corporate
culture and daily work.
Coop firmly believes that sustainability is an important basis for a company’s long-term success.
For this reason, Coop has firmly enshrined
sustainability in its Articles of Association, its
corporate profile and its missions. With its
sustainability strategy concept, Coop ensures
that the dimension of sustainability is incorporated into all its corporate strategies. The sustainability strategy concept is based on three
pillars:
Pillar 1: Sustainable products and services
How we act as consumers has a considerable
impact on both people and the environment.
Coop is promoting sustainable consumption with
particularly sustainable products, conscious
range selection, targeted customer information
and, especially, a variety of advertising activities.
It promotes compliance with demanding minimum requirements along the entire value chain,
is involved in pioneering procurement projects,
and cultivates long-term partnerships in organic
farming, for example.
20
RETAIL
Pillar 2: Resource efficiency and climate
protection
The efficient use of resources and energy helps to
both reduce our consumption of these resources
and lower costs. Coop’s efforts in this regard
focus on the consistent implementation of the
“CO2-neutral by 2023” vision and the associated
reduction in energy consumption and greater use
of renewable energies. Other important topics are
logistics and goods transport, waste avoidance,
packaging optimization and recycling, responsible
water management and sustainable construction.

and endeavours to integrate disabled people
into the work process. Coop also supports the
organizations “Schweizer Tafel (Swiss Table)”
and “Tischlein deck dich (Table Be Set)” with
both food donations and financial assistance.
For more than 70 years, Coop Aid for Mountain
Regions has been actively engaged in improving
the living and working conditions of inhabitants
of the Swiss mountain regions.
Coop Sustainability Fund
The Coop Sustainability Fund enables Coop to
work together with external partners to research
sustainable production methods or products
and thus promote real pioneering work. The Fund
also helps to support exhibitions, events and
services which raise public awareness of sustainable consumption. Projects that focus on
health, exercise, or supporting disadvantaged
people are sponsored for society and staff.
Each year, the Coop Sustainability Fund invests
around CHF 16.5 million into more than 80 projects in innovation, awareness raising and
employees and society. The majority of these
projects are commitments over many years. In
addition, Coop offers access to communication
instruments, staff, and valuable partner networks via the Fund.

A number of manufacturing companies belong
to the Coop Group. While Coop is the majority
shareholder in Bell AG, the other manufacturing
companies are integrated into the Coop Group
as divisions. The manufacturing companies
produce both Coop own-label brand products
and products for third parties.
