REGISTRATION POLICY The department reserves the right to cancel or modify the times, locations, combine classes, change instructors, and/or costs of any program should the need arise. NOTE: You will not be notified of dates, times, or confirmation. Consider yourself enrolled for the program unless someone form the Parks and Recreation Department contacts you. ADA COMPLIANCE The City of Berlin intends to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. The city will make reasonable accommodations to disabled individuals. Call 361-5437 for more information. AGE & GRADE REQUIREMENTS INCLEMENT WEATHER Program cancellations or modifications due to weather conditions will be announced on WISS Radio AM 1100 prior to program start time. You can also call the Parks & Recreation Department at 361-5437. REFUNDS Any participant wishing to receive a refund must notify the department before the second scheduled program start date. A full refund will be issued if a program is cancelled. Programs not meeting minimum registration will be cancelled, and refunds issued. RESIDENT VS. NON-RESIDENT RECREATION FEES Residential recreation program fees apply only to individuals who reside within Berlin City limits. City residents contribute to the overall funding of the Parks & Recreation Department through residential property taxes. From time to time, there are programs that are co-sponsored with the school district that do allow for school district residents to participate at a resident rate. Please note the following abbreviations used: RES = Resident of the City of Berlin SDR = Berlin School District Resident NR = Non-Resident PROGRAM UPDATES In an effort to produce this brochure in a timely manner, there are programs that may not have been finalized before printing. INSURANCE The city of Berlin does NOT carry individual accident insurance. Injuries may occur while participating in or en-route to any program. Butts N’ Gutts is a muscular fitness that targets your core - abdominals, glutes, legs, and hips. Come join the fun in becoming more muscular and fit! Bring your water bottle and own mat. *This course is designed for high intensity muscular fitness. STRONG WOMEN - HEALTHY HEARTS This is a program that aims to improve the cardiovascular health of the participants thru exercise & nutrition education. Each participant will receive a pedometer & leash, t-shirt, and a water bottle as part of their participation fee. Sarah shares her talent of cooking in demonstrating the perfect white sauce and pie making skills. Learn the difference between frying, sautéing, roasting and braising, and more on cooking basics to help bring wholesome meals to your family. Instructor: Angela Femali READER’S THEATER PIANO INSTRUMENT LESSONS — Two musically skilled and talented individuals offer their love for music — Alecia Starks is our pianist. Alecia has played the piano for over 30 years. Summer piano lessons offered to all ages will be done at the home of Alecia - 176 E. Moore Street using her piano. Jenny Spitler offers all band and string instrument lessons. Jenny majored in music at St. Norbert College and has taught for 3 years. Any age of student must have their own or a rented instrument to bring to class. Lessons will be held at 142 Water Street at the Berlin Senior Center. Angela has a B.S. in Theater Arts, & has worked with Firstage Milwaukee’s Children’s Theater. 12 MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATRE - THE TORTOISE VERSUS THE HARE Join us in welcoming back the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre. A touring team from MCT will be arriving at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake on Monday June 18 with a set, lights, costumes, props, and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. Students in grades 1-12 (or week-long visitors to Green Lake) are invited to come to an open audition at the opera house from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on that date. 50-60 local students will be cast to perform in MCT’s production of THE TORTOISE VERSUS THE HARE. Because of costume limitations there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Thrasher Opera House. Then incredibly, after only one week of rehearsals, two public performances will be presented on Saturday, June 23 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. There is no cost to the student or parents for this unique and invaluable opportunity for the week-long workshop. It starts on county road “F” in the city of Berlin about a quarter of a mile southeast of state highway 49. The trail is approximately 12 miles, and ends in the city of Ripon.
