New ‘Cut Level 5’
Armory Sleeve and
Antzer Plus glove
Glove Connection, a Southern Nevadabased product developer and distributor
of personal protective equipment (PPE)
to companies throughout the Western
region of the United States, is the first to
introduce two new Cut Level 5 products to
its portfolio: the Armory protective sleeve
and the Antzer Plus glove. Cut Level 5 is
the highest protective rating available in
the PPE industry today.
Crucial in industries where employees
regularly come into contact with glass,
sharp metals and other hazardous
materials, the high-visibility Armory
sleeve and Antzer Plus glove provide
exceptional dexterity and are impervious
to liquids and prevent lacerations. Made
with cutting-edge proprietary materials
and reinforced with steel wire, the Armory
and Antzer Plus are manufactured,
according to Glove Connection, to the
most stringent Cut Level 5 standards
upheld in the industry today. Moreover,
the Antzer Plus glove even allows wearers
to operate smart phones with their fingertips.
“We evaluated the market and discovered
a need for reliable and versatile Cut Level
5 products, so we took it upon ourselves
to develop the Armory and Antzer Plus,”
explains Drew Stevens, co-owner, Glove
Connection. “We have tremendous interest
from a variety of industries for PPE that
meets Cut Level 5 specifications.”
With ongoing growth in the renewable
energy sector, companies charged with
installing solar panels on solar farms in the
Southwest are among Glove Connection’s
fastest growing customer base. Workers
engaged in this effort depend upon PPE such
as the Armory sleeve and Antzer Plus glove.

one of the very few manufacturers to own
its hydraulic cylinder and metal-working
supplier. This affords “State of the Art”
techniques in the manufacturing process.
Using a 3-dimensional CAD system, Amco
Veba designs each individual component of
the crane. It is able to manipulate the crane
within the CAD system in order to test its
movements and ensure it has functional
geometry. By software analysis, every
point of the crane is examined for stress to
ensure each component is adequate. Data
is sent to an outside engineering company
for independent verification of calculations.
Every new crane is designed in accordance

Sandale Utility Products
Sandale Utility Products
is now a McElroy Certified
Rental Distributor
Sandale’s Growth
Sandale Utility Products (a division of
Emco Waterworks) was acquired in 2003.
Sandale was originally established in
1990, primarily a supplier of polyethylene
pipe and fittings to the natural gas market.
Sandale expanded with ten locations
across Canada providing a variety
of products to service the industrial,
refineries, municipal, irrigations,
environmental, telecommunications, gas
gathering and gas distribution markets.
Continued expansion of Sandale’s product
offering led it to become a distributor of
Tulsa, Okla based McElroy Manufacturing
fusion machines in 2007. This allowed
Sandale to develop an always growing

rental business, Sandale also increased its
staffing in order to service its expanded
customer base by providing on site fusion
services - with factory trained fusion
technicians ready to travel to any job site,
Sandale also provides fusion training schools
and on-site training for its customers.
With Emco’s culture of investing in its
people, Sandale continued to expand its
personnel and their training. The company
invested in having staff trained at McElroy
Manufacturing’s University, a facility
that provided training for troubleshooting
and rebuilding McElroy machines of all
sizes. Sandale’s first McElroy Certified
Master Mechanic was on staff in Calgary
in May 2009, and another on staff at its

Alberta Traffic Supply
BlinkerSigns: Smart Signs,
Brilliant LEDs
By Jeff Adolf, Alberta Traffic Supply
In regards to traffic safety, many
challenges face traffic engineers,
highway transportation departments
and municipalities on a daily basis.
Whether urban or rural, intersection
and crosswalk safety is at the top of
the list. Factors such as higher traffic
volumes, bicyclists, pedestrians,
road construction, the aging driver,
distracted driving and potentially
adverse road conditions affect
motorists’ behaviors behind the wheel.
There are many safety countermeasures
available to combat high-risk intersections,
crosswalks and work zones - larger or
additional signage, flashing beacons placed
on traffic signs, overhead flashing lights,
rumble strips and portable display signs.
More costly countermeasures include
intersection realignment or reconstruction
of the intersection into a roundabout.
These safety measures do work in certain
situations, but other solutions exist that
are cost effective, eco-friendly and more
importantly, deliver results.
Visible road signs fulfill a need in traffic
safety. What if it were possible to take
any given regulatory, warning, school,
MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic
Control Devices) or custom sign and
make it even more brilliant than it already
is? In critical situations where motorists
need timely recognition of a traffic sign,
day and night, rain or shine, even during
power outages, BlinkerSigns fulfill the
demand. Solar Powered BlinkerSigns take
18
EQUIPMENT REVIEW
a bright reflective sign and make it even
brighter. As more drivers are increasingly
distracted by their high-tech gadgets, the
low-tech traffic sign has gone LED to
attract more attention and contribute to
making our roadways safer.
Pedestrian Crossing BlinkerSigns with Ped Button
Activation
BlinkerSigns are a revolutionary
development of solar-powered traffic
signs that utilize flashing super-bright
Luxeon Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
and 3M DG³ reflective sheeting for
maximum conspicuity. These incredibly
bright LEDs flash (in unison) around
the sign’s perimeter once per second,
commanding the attention of drivers - day
and night. Patented Day-Viz technology
automatically adjusts LED brightness for
optimal day and night visibility. Perfect
at new or high-accident intersections,
pedestrian crossings, dangerous curves,
school and work zones or wherever
increased visibility can save lives - all
without any costly installation. These
signs heighten motorists’ awareness and
increase motorists’ compliance. Flashing
LED BlinkerSigns are an effective safety
countermeasure at appropriate locations
where the number of crashes or crash
rates are higher than expected or where
excessive speeding or intersection ”blowthroughs” occur.
• EZ-Installation anywhere in just minutes
These eco-friendly signs are self-powered
so they need no electric service, and they
can be installed anywhere without the
need for expensive trenching and wiring.
They can be installed onto new or existing
posts in a matter of minutes, and can be
integrated with an Intelligent Transportation
System (ITS) or operate as a stand-alone
ITS. BlinkerSigns can be synchronized
with each other and are programmable to
work with solar time clocks, push buttons
and motion detectors using solar and
wireless radio signal technology. Optional
110V systems are available, if desired.
BlinkerSigns are MUTCD compliant, and
are available in a choice of standard or
custom legend. Perfect for foggy, cloudy, or
rainy days, BlinkerSigns can be seen up to
two miles away.
• MUTCD compliant, ITS compatibility
(Stop and Yield TAC compliant)
• No trenching, concrete or wiring needed
• 24/7 and web programmable systems
available
• Wireless synchronicity
Benefits of BlinkerSigns include:
A growing number of municipalities and
private companies are turning to solarpowered road warning and school safety
signs to inform the public, and to save
money and energy. Various field testing
has found statistically significant speed
decreases of vehicles approaching such
a sign, which suggests drivers are more
aware of the BlinkerSign and more prone to
slow down or stop. An independent study
undertaken by the Texas Transportation
Institute concluded a 52.9-percent
reduction in “blow-throughs” where the
LED-enhanced stop signs are used.
• High-intensity LEDs command attention
day and night
Popular BlinkerSign flashing LED traffic
signs include Stop, Yield, Pedestrian
Crossing, School Zone, Wrong Way,
Chevrons, Railroad Crossing, Advance
Warning, Wildlife Crossing, Emergency
Vehicle and Speed Limit. Virtually any
sign can be converted into a BlinkerSign
including private property or parking signs.
Brilliant LED technology makes
roads safer. The brilliant innovation of
enhancing traffic signs with LEDs is
helping to reduce accidents and save
lives across the country. By providing
drivers notice much further in advance
than conventional signs, these signs allow
motorists to react sooner.

HOT from the USA
Here’s a Simple and Affordable Tool to
help Consumers Reduce Outdoor Waste!
Landscaping is a big drain on water
resources across the country, typically
accounting for 60 to 70 percent of
residential water consumption. To make
matters worse, homeowners typically
over-water their lawns by 20 to 50 percent.
But a California company has developed
a innovative solution to the problem: a
simple, low-cost irrigation controller that
helps eliminate outdoor water waste.
Water agencies in California and across
the United States have been encouraging
consumers to purchase weather sensitive
irrigation controllers because overwatered
lawns are the single biggest source or
residential water waste. Smart controllers have
not been widely used by consumers because
they are too expensive and too complicated to
use. The typical smart controller costs $200 or
more, while WaterDex retails for less than half
that amount.
WaterDex is easier to use than either
standard or smart irrigation controllers
because it overrides both kinds of
devices with a simple and ease to use
dial. Consumers simply visit WaterDex.
com and enter their zip code to find the
appropriate watering index setting for their
WaterDex dial. WaterDex then turns the
sprinklers on and off on its own, based on
the selected watering index setting.
Consumers can sign up to receive
automatic emails that notify them of
the latest recommended watering index
settings for their zip code. WaterDex also
comes with a wireless remote control that
can be used to control the device from
virtually anywhere in the home.
More information from:
www.WaterDex.com
The device, called WaterDex, overrides
existing residential irrigation controllers
and provides consumers with an easy
to use dial that can be set on a daily,
weekly or monthly basis to zip code
specific watering indexes, which are
compiled using historic and realtime
evapotranspiration data. Developed by
Irvine-based Rockrose Technology LLC,
WaterDex has gotten the attention of the
organizers of the WaterSmart Innovations
Conference and Exposition, who have
invited Rockrose co-founder Matt
Davenport to give a formal presentation
on the WaterDex product during the Oct.
3rd to 5th conference in Las Vegas.
The conference is organized by the
Southern Nevada Water Authority in
cooperation with the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency’s WaterSense Program
and other public and private partnerships.
“This is terrific exposure for WaterDex,”
said Matt Davenport, a Rockrose cofounder and horticulturalist, adding
that more than 1,000 water agency
professionals from across the country are
expected to attend the conference, which
is the largest conference of its kind
focusing on water efficient technologies.
Davenport said WaterDex is a powerful
tool that could help water agencies
across the country as they look for
ways to reduce residential water waste.
“WaterDex not only has the ability to
help consumers reduce their water bills,
but if enough people use the product it
could significantly reduce water waste
at a time when water agencies across the
country are facing increasing shortages,”
Davenport said.

EQUIPMENT REVIEW
The Chameleon Contractor Body is an
all-purpose, all-season, all-in-one truck
body. This rugged performer not only
increases day-to-day productivity, but also
maximizes the equipment investment yearround by generating off-season revenue
with the included spreader attachment.
• Standard inverted V keeps weight off
the drag chain for optimal performance
EQUIPMENT
Often customers are asked to compromise
on equipment based on what a
manufacturer offers and not what is the
best solution. Swenson prides itself on
providing a wide range of
spreaders, dump bodies
and liquid applicators that
is customized to meeting
customers’ exact needs.

The Electric
Powered LPV
Spreader (Low
Profile V-box)
is specifically
designed for
1/2 ton to 1-ton
pickups, and since
the overall height
is 25% less than
typical pickup
truck spreaders,
rearward visibility
is significantly
increased. The
LPV has been developed with fieldoperators and field-tested to be one of
the quietest and most efficient electric
powered spreader available. The LPV is
powered by a sealed, 12V electric motor
and has fewer parts, resulting in less
maintenance and less downtime.
MATERIALS
Swenson believes its understanding
of materials and the role they play in
customers’ application and transportation
needs is critical. It is able to recommend
product solutions that are compatible with
their material needs, This experience in
materials allows it to provide the right
solution to get the best results.
SOLUTIONS
Listening and understanding to what its
customers need is the reason Swenson is
able to provide solutions for virtually any
application. Its experience has allowed the
company to develop solutions that range
from environmentally friendly products to
special products for unique applications.
• Maintenance free front idler roller
provides trouble free drag chain operation
Product Line features a full line of
standard and custom built products
including:
• Receiver-Mounted Tailgate Spreaders
vehicles greater than 20,000 lbs. (GVW).
In addition to being customizable to
respond to specific needs and applications,
EV-Select is also delivered with a strong
set of value-added standard features to
ensure optimum productivity from the
start, as well as a speedy ROI. All EV
Series spreaders are similar in design and
powder coated at the factory to insure the
longevity of investment. The Swenson
‘Value Advantage’ is realized by the fact
that customers can choose the drive train
that best fits their specific needs.
Designed to install quickly and easily, the
Chameleon Contractor Body can provide
years of trouble-free, low-maintenance,
multi-tasking service – while increasing
efficiency and profitability. It can fill a
wheel barrow full of mulch in less than
ten seconds, or a one-yard skid loader
in under a minute. Changing operations
between jobs is also done quickly. It takes
just two men less than ten minutes to
completely convert the unit from flat bed
to spreader and be ready to spread salt
or sand. Its rugged, 10-foot bed has 12”
fold down sides for skid loading while the
unique three-way tailgate design provides
excellent ease of operation for rear loading
and bulk dumping.
• Two internal and four external baffles
allow for precise placement of materials
The EV-Select spreader series is
designed to be used coast-to-coast and
allow municipalities to maximize their
vehicle productivity year round on
Steel PV spreaders
with engine, electric or
hydraulic drive.

featuring the BOSS durability and
dependability they’ve come to expect can
now choose from our expanded family of
products,” said Mark Klossner, marketing
director for THE BOSS Snowplow.
“Whether at work on the job site or at
home, these new box plows are built with
BOSS’ commitment to quality to provide
skid steer operators with the versatility
they need in size and weight to meet the
task at hand.”
The B-8 and B-10 models trip-edge design
protect the plow and skid steer when
obstacles are encountered, maximizing
performance and protection from impact.
Adjustable trip springs let the operator
adjust trip-edge tension. To keep the blade
on the ground at the optimal scraping
angle while negotiating rough terrain,
these plows feature a built-in float and
pivot system. This feature also makes
the box plow easier to maneuver for less
experienced operators. A unique bolt-on

wing design will keep these plows in
extended operation for many years. If a
wing is bent because of impact, a new one
can easily be bolted on.
Heavy duty plow shoes are made of
abrasion resistant steel providing wear
resistance to keep the plow performing
at its best. Both plows feature BOSS’
exclusive SmartShield finish to deliver
durable corrosion protection and a longlasting, high-gloss shine.
BOSS DXT Snowplow
BOSS Snowplow has also announced the
addition of the Power-V DXT. Inspired by
the proven design of the BOSS Power-V
XT Snowplows, The BOSS Power-V DXT
was designed from the ground-up to be
one of the most fully featured snowplows

that BOSS has ever produced. The all-new
Power-V DXT features a dual-trip design,
which combines both the BOSS trip-edge
and full moldboard-trip technologies.
The dual-trip design of the DXT delivers
enhanced plow protection when striking
hidden obstacles – from manhole covers
to frozen snow banks, a broad level of
protection not available from many other
vee plows.
The BOSS DXT combines heavy-duty
push frames, cross-bracing and reinforced
moldboard to minimize blade twisting
and enhance durability. The DXT features
46.5-inch flared blade wings with an
enhanced curl design that moves snow as
efficiently as possible. With the 10’ multiposition design, the DXT can quickly and
efficiently switch positions to break trail,
windrow or stack snow.
The BOSS DXT also comes standard
with The BOSS SmartHitch2 attachment
system which allows operators to attach
and detach the DXT quickly and easily in
three simple steps – plug, flip and click.
The Power V-DXT provides extended
wear resistance and comes with built-in
curb guards and snow catcher.
