Since this is my first article in Kol Beth El, I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce
myself. My name is Mike Littman. My family and I have been members of Monroe Temple for
14 years. I am married to Beth Ann and we moved to Monroe in 1999. We had a strong
connection to the Temple since Beth Ann grew up in the Monroe area and has been involved
since childhood. We have two kids, (now teenagers), Tyler and Rebecca who each started at
Mentsch Makers and have transitioned through Torah School.
Since joining the Temple, I have volunteered my time in the Temple so I could feel more
involved. I started out by getting involved in the Men’s Action Club and then worked as a
technical advisor for the computer systems and phone systems. I was soon asked to be the
Temple’s webmaster. I then joined the Temple Board of Trustees and was asked to be the 2nd
Vice President on the Executive Board. I was very excited for this opportunity to serve on
these boards. I feel very strongly about volunteerism. I think it is important for people to get
involved for a greater sense of community. I have always had the opinion that if you want
something to be better, you need to get engaged. It is difficult to complain about how things
should be if you don’t step up and try to work together. This is one of the main reasons on
why I accepted this role and now am president of this great Temple. Through my term, I am
going to strongly encourage that everyone volunteer some of their time. It doesn’t need to
be much but you will definitely feel satisfied once you do it and your community needs you!
