RTX109 - SM0JZT
RTX109 9 Band CW/SSB, 10 W Transceiver The RTX-109 is an amateur band ssb/cw transceiver with a direct digital synthesis VFO/display to a 1 Hz resolution. The VFO master uses the AD9851 DDS clocked at 180 MHz, with phase locked narrow band voltage controlled oscillators, covering the 1.8 through 28MHz allocations. Construction is of a modular form to allow budget building starting with a basic receiver and building up to a full power transceiver. A ring mixer RF board, with a Level 17dBm option, insures a front end capable of dealing with even 7 MHz night time QRM. To maintain the high IP3 there is a switched RF pre-amp using quad fets. The xtal filtered IF module features passive audio filtering with a TDA2003 audio amplifier on receive and a SSM2166 speech processor on transmit. The front panel is an DRAKE-look-alike design .... On top of the rig is a wattmeter from LDG-electronics. Modules for this project where obtained from Sheldon Hands in Wales. Phone: +44-1239 698427 URL: http://www.rf-kits.demon.co.uk Email: [email protected] Lots of hard work has been done by to fault find and change the design together with Sheldon. Most of the modules where in beta stage when I got them. More information on QRP-building can be found on Club stations SK0PT:s homepage: www.qsl.net/sk0pt. If you have any questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me for guidance around this and other projects. SM0JZT Tilman D. Boards top left to bottom right: IF-board, PLL-board, Control-board and Mixer-board. 9 Band SSB/CW, 10 W Transceiver – SM0JZT Page 2 of 7 The IF-board includes on the top right the mic-amp and speech processor SM2166 by analog devices. To the left of the 2166 you see the MC1496 modulator. Down left to right you see the receivers IF strip with 2 x MC1350 amplifiers. The LF amplification is done in a TDA2003. On the board you also see the 2.2 KHz X-talfilter and the BFO-xtals. TX-chain, IC 9 = MC1469, IC 7 = SSM2166 RX-chain, IC1,2 = MC1350, IC4=TL072, IC5=NE602, IC6=TDA2003 9 Band SSB/CW, 10 W Transceiver – SM0JZT Page 3 of 7 The mixer contains a TUF1H ( 17 dbm ) on the mid left. The rest of the board contains bandpass filters. MMIC:s provide amplification of VFO-signal and TX driver levels. IC1 = TUF1H 17 dBm mixer, IC2 – 6 = MMIC-amps 9 Band SSB/CW, 10 W Transceiver – SM0JZT Page 4 of 7 Here you have a cutout from the DDS-VFO-board. To the left you can see DDS-processor 9851 by Analog Devices. To the right you see the control PIC-processor. All these components are soldered with a normal soldering iron. Skills are needed though bearing in mind the DDS-IC being about 10 mm long.... 9 Band SSB/CW, 10 W Transceiver – SM0JZT Page 5 of 7 The cleanup of the DDS-VFO is done in this PLL-board. the GQPL9-board. To the right you have the lowpassfilters. On the bottom you can see the preamp consisting of 4 x J310 FETs in parallel. The IC:s are for the bandswitch control.
