MGAL Member News
Larry Hughes has been selected as the fall Artist in
Residence at Guadalupe Mountains National Park, on the
Texas/New Mexico border. The Park provides housing
for the three-week residency in October. Larry will be
working in watercolor and oil along as many of the 80
miles of Park’s wilderness trails as possible, and will be
hosting several art-related public outreach programs to
commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the
Wilderness Act.
Steve Nelson is having a solo exhibit at Trezevant 8/2310/29. The address is 3437 Waynoka Ave. Memphis 38111.
For further info, please call Laura House at 746-1843. All
proceeds will go to The Salvation Army and The Baddour
Center. Steve is also one of several exhibiters at The
Woman’s Exchange and Fratelli’s at Botanic Garden.

It has been a wonderful summer, especially weather wise, and
also because we have been joined by at least ten new members
to MGAL at my last count. New members can bring a spark
of freshness and enthusiasm to an organization and our league
welcomes you with open arms. It is our desire that you not only
reap the benefits offered by such a union, but that you infuse into us
new life, fresh ideas, creative energy and the joy of your friendship.
We encourage you to participate in our scheduled meetings, enter
our various exhibit opportunities, attend offered workshops, and
share your time and talents helping to make MGAL a better and
more successful art league. We all look forward to getting to know
you and learn from you in the coming years.
Speaking of learning, we must all be aware that it is a never
ending process. I am quite sure that we as artists have similar
struggles in trying to express our creative ideas and capture them
in the media of our choice. If you’re like me, I paint a lot more
“failures” (at least in my eyes) than I do successes (at least in my
eyes). But, every failure is a part of the learning process, just as
much as every success. So, assuming my assessment is correct let
me leave you this month with the following:
