PRESIDENTS REPORT FEBRUARY 2016
I guess by now we are all back in the saddle, digging those spurs in and getting in the
groove.
Events Completed.
Bunnings BBQ’s
We had two allocated to us for January and have just completed the second one on
Thursday 21st. The first on Sunday 17th certainly loosened up those joints and kept us
on the move producing a turnover of $2,373.50. Thursday 21 st we had a turnover of
$1040.40. My sincere thanks goes to the following helpers:
Barry Farrell, Paul Woodward, Belinda Howard, Jim Reddiex, Mike Mitchell, Dominic
Corkeron, Larry Littlewood, Craig Porter, Peter Flynn and Tony Howard.
Events Forthcoming
Bunnings BBQ.
The next one is scheduled for Friday 5th February which means some of us will have to
back up for Tony’s Night Run.
Tony Kabel’s Night Run
Tony’s Event is the first car event on the calendar for 2016 and is scheduled for the 5 th
February. Sharpen those pencils and make sure you get your entry in for a great night.
The flyer is elsewhere in the magazine containing information you may need. Don’t
forget, even if you get lost make sure you come back to the club for a sausage sizzle and
a chat.
Club Night Friday 12/02/2016.
This club night is the information night for the Future Auto Rally Experience Day which is
the Come and Try Event coupled with the Practice Stage Event to be held at Jimna
organised by John Keen and his team on Saturday 20th February.
Mark your diary and make sure you are there so you will get all the information first hand
from John. JK and his team have done a great job in the organising of this event and I
believe it has been well supported so far with entries. The flyer for the event is elsewhere
in the magazine.
Thornton Off Road Short Course. 5th and 6th March.
Formally named the Mulgowie Off Road Short Course and formally scheduled for the 5th
and 6th March is now well into its planning stage. We are still searching for some officials
Brisport February 2016
to fill the remaining, and I must say satisfying positions, so I ask if you could contact
Margaret at the club, and volunteer. The 6 km course will be held in Kev Pitman’s Property
at Thornton and is only a hop, step and jump further on from Mulgowie. I have taken on
the Clerk of Course position which will free up Tait to jump in his rocket and compete.
BSCC will be doing the catering with Head Chef Barry Farrell at the helm. Camping is
available at the Mulgowie Cricket / Sports Ground which has toilets and showers. I can
guarantee a great weekend with great racing and great food. That’s beside the fun you
will have.
Bunnings BBQ Wednesday 16th March.
This is a call out for helpers, and as soon as I can get some rostered BBQ clashes sorted
out I will be able to post the full 2016 year roster. One of the clashes, is with the SR
Automotive Rally on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd of April which is a high turnover BBQ,
being on a weekend. Nevertheless, be rest assured I am working to get a swap with
someone for the following weekend.
SR Automotive Manumbar Rally. Saturday, 2nd April.
This event is Round 1 of the Queensland Rally Championship and Simon and Margot are
well into the planning and are keeping some event detail close to their chests at the
moment. I am sure the event will be at the top of the “pleasurable events ladder” and I
suggest you save your next pay packet and have it ready for the opening of entries. Keep
your eyes open and your ears peeled as they slowly release some of the sworn to secrecy
information.
AGM Wednesday 6th April, 2016.
Same as previous years it will be held at the club rooms so mark down this date in your
calendar.
Club Night Friday 8th April.
Come along and learn how to run a rally. You probably know a fair bit about it anyway,
but you may need the finer points which the experienced presenters will share with you
on the night. If you have to learn the basic points then this is a must night to attend, and
one not to be missed. The night caters for the non-experienced, the reasonably
experienced through to the very experienced. See you there.
CMP Consulting Club Rally 30th April, 2016.
This a Short Course styled event to be run on the best roads available, possibly in Jimna.
Craig has been in the forest familiarising himself with roads not used at the moment and
has had a meeting with HQ Plantations on their plans for harvesting and maintenance.
Craig has a desire to resurrect some of these roads we haven’t competed on for a while,
but of course the trade-off is the injection of money if you want to achieve that. As
information comes to hand, Craig will start releasing details of the event and its venue.
Board
NBN update - in progress.
Brisport February 2016
Board Meetings.
The Board has now had its first Strategic Planning Meeting which was held on
Wednesday 13th January.
The Boards Administration Meeting will be held on 9th February, 2016.
2015 QRC Champions.
Congratulations to Ian Menzies and Bob McGowan on winning the 2015 Queensland
Rally Championship. I know of only a small fraction of how much effort these two guys
put into their event preparation, and the process they use to constantly be the fastest on
stages which is a credit to them. It goes to show you do the homework, you pass your
exam.
Michael Oldano
It was with great sadness and heavy hearts we said goodbye to Michael at the Celebration
of Michael’s Life held at the Nudgee College Chapel on Friday 22 nd January. The service
mirrored the life of Michael who packed so much living into his 41 years and always with
a smile. Michael would have felt honoured to see so many attend his farewell, and be
so proud, as was Caz and family along with his mother and step dad, to see his rally car
lead the six rally cars in a procession behind the hearse. To all those competitors and
especially Shaun Dragona who gave up their time to organise and participate, the family
immensely thanks you.
Also, on behalf of the Oldano family, thanks to Errol Bailey for organising David Vaughan
to be the Chaplin for Michaels Celebration.
Michael, you had no enemies, you can now laugh with the angles, and you can now be
free of physical pain, so rest in peace.
Thought for February.
How you see the world first determines your attitude, then your attitude
determines how the world sees you.
Until March,
Barry Neuendorff

-We need people to help do the catering at the event! Are you handy on the
BBQ or could throw some salad on a bun and serve a burger or maybe look after
soft drinks and water. We need about 4-6 people to help with lunch Saturday
then breakfast Sunday morning and lunch on Sunday. If you’re only available for

Peter Brock of Goondiwindi has one last lap
of honour.
The Peter Brock of Goondiwindi, Paul “Zoomer" Zacka was laid to rest and made
one final lap of honour on Friday 8th January 2016.
The funeral of Paul, who sadly passed away on New Year's Day, took place at the
Goondiwindi Catholic Church. The family also held a wake to celebrate Paul’s
life with family and friends at the Goondiwindi Golf Club overlooking the Peter
Zacka Fairway. Peter was Paul's brother.
Many attended and shared their stories and memories with each other.
The Zacka Family was the Holden & Nissan Dealers in Goondiwindi for many years
and operated out of what is now the Co-op Building.
Paul was an exceptional racing driver winning the1982 Australian Off Road
Championship after a successful career in touring cars.

We’ve mentioned before that the position of Club Captain is vacant and with a
restructure of club nights to only 6 per year we thought it might be time to send a
call-out for interested parties!
Its easy being Club Captain you just have to be happy, outgoing and love interacting
with everyone.
Most of the club nights are sorted for the year but it would be great to have a host
for new members to talk too and to help find their way around the club, events,
activities etc.
There’s no age limit on this job it’s just all about be that helpful person that people
can connect with when required.
Come on……….give it a go! Nothing ventured nothing gained………………………..

For Sale!
TWO Audi ‘Ur’ Quattro Coupes for sale.
One is a 1985 (WR) and the other is a 1988 (MB). Anyone reading this knows this is where
it all started... the first AWD turbocharged, intercooled performance car. These are the
real
deal
and
there
are
only
a
couple
of
dozen
in
Australia.
The '85 is finished in Zermatt (silver). Full black leather interior. Alarm, CD stereo. In-dash
control to lock the centre (pre-torsion) and rear differentials.
2.1l
turbocharged
intercooled
five
cylinder
engine.
200hp standard.
The good: runs well, drives well (makes my WRX feel a little 'agricultural'). Good tyres of
correct fitment (215/50/15) on original 8” Ronals. All original. Exhaust manifold has been
replaced (they were prone to cracking). KKK turbocharger has been replaced with a
Garret before I purchased the car. Work done by Dialynx UK, renowned Quattro experts.
I have an original and serviceable KKK available if wanted to return to original
specification.
The bad: rust in all the usual WR Quattro places. Below left tail light, front edge of bonnet,
screen and spot on either front guard where brace sits behind. The green fluorescent
digital instrument cluster is in need of a new voltage regulator. Patrizia, the voice of all
the warning systems, is not working as the previous owner has disconnected her in favour
of the new stereo. She can be reinstated.
The ’88 is finished in Lagos (dark blue). Cloth interior, orange digital dash. 2.1l
turbocharged intercooled five cylinder engine. 200hp. Torsion centre differential and
lockable rear diff.
The good: runs well. All original. Good tyres of correct fitment (215/50/15) on the original
8” Romals. This car was stored properly throughout UK winters and therefore there
appears to be no rust!
The bad: thermostat housing was pinched for another car. Still has one but needs repair.
Rear window is broken, thanks to careless tradesman. The instrument cluster is also in
need of a voltage regulator.
Good and bad: rear left 1/4 has been replaced (well documented) but clear coat has
gone.
These are personal imports I brought in to Australia in 2010. No L07 issued as yet but easily
obtainable for full ADR compliance. I have had one done before and all that was
required were door intrusion bars (I still have a set), child restraint anchor points
and "Unleaded Fuel Only" decal on the fuel filler.
Plenty of UK history/paperwork from original owners.
Lots of other 'goodies' available for the right price (and for the right buyer) including:
• set of Group 4 wheel arch extensions
• set of 4 original Fuchs gravel rims
• six 6” gold Ronals
• spare WR gearbox/diff/centre diff
Brisport February 2016
• non-tinted tail lights and reflector panel
• rear wing risers
• twin headlight set and extra grilles (to make the projecting grille for a big IC… or just
for looks)
• full set of decals to suit a Michelle Mouton 1982 Portugal replica
• near complete Audi 200T sedan for many useful parts including complete motor
(virtually the same motor)
and the ‘bible' - Berkley Publishing official repair manual (rare as the proverbial rocking
horse stuff)
Must go. My health and wealth (lack thereof both), I have put an end to big boys toys.
1985 WR: $13000
1988 MB: $8000
BOTH CARS: $18000
ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING: $19500
