and
Remember playing outside
when you were a kid? You
ran…and you jumped…and
you yelled…and when the sun
went down your mother called,
“time to come home.” And you
came inside with rosy cheeks,
smelling of the wind…and the
earth…and of all that was good.
We invite you to re-discover the simple
pleasures of playing in the outdoors at
USDA Forest Service Land Between
The Lakes National Recreation Area.
Located in Western Kentucky and Tennessee, LBL
offers 170,000 acres of wildlife, history, and outdoor
recreation opportunities, wrapped by 300 miles of
undeveloped shoreline.

Recreation
There’s so much
to do at Land
Between The
Lakes, it’s
no wonder
we’re called the heartland’s
outdoor playground! Hiking,
mountain biking, and
horseback trails thread
through our backwoods
and along quiet lakeshores.
Or you can bounce up rocky
hills and splash through the
mud on your All-Terrain
Vehicle at the 2,500-acre Turkey
Bay OHV Area. Watch for native
wildlife as you paddle a canoe on
peaceful Honker Lake, or enjoy a
family picnic in the cool shade of
one of our many picnic areas.
It’s all here.
Come explore
our recreation
opportunities.

under the stars.

HUNTING & FISHING
LBL offers more than 250 days a year of hunting seasons
for large and small game and waterfowl. We also offer
spring quota and non-quota hunts for turkeys and fall
archery and quota gun hunts for deer.
LBL is surrounded by one of the world’s largest manmade bodies of water, so it’s no wonder some of the
best sport fishing in the mid-South is right here.
Crappie, bass, sauger, catfish, and bluegill are abundant.
Recreation
TRAILS
Over 200 miles of trails
and rustic roads beckon,
leading to some of the
most scenic spots in LBL!
Native wildlife inhabit
our woods, fields, and
lakeshores.

you danced a reel at an 1850’s

Land Between The Lakes bring the
region’s history, science, and
environment to life. Special events
and celebrations offer fun for the
entire family.
Come explore our family attractions.
Get ready for a hands-on
encounter with the natural
world at our environmental
education center nestled
in the woods between
Honker and Hematite
Lakes.
Gaze into the eyes of a
great horned owl, howl
with a coyote, or watch for the elusive red wolf in our
Backyard Exhibit Area. Then, explore with us during one
of our many guided special events: a moonlight canoe trip,
an afternoon nature hike, or a Sunday Safari. Little ones
will love special days such as our children’s festival,
storytelling time, and evening owl prowls. Adults can take
part in seminars on wildlife, gardening, and nature
photography.
Want to explore on your own? Canoes are available for
rent during the summer and fall months, and several
scenic hiking trails embark
from the Nature Station.
The Nature Station is open
March through November.
For more information or
a calendar of events,
call 270-924-2000 or
1-800-LBL-7077.
THE HOMEPLACE
History comes alive at this working
19th century farm. Each day interpreters
in period clothing demonstrate the daily
chores and activities, and you are invited
to share in the experience. Our special
events and festivals highlight the spirit
and times of this era throughout the
season. You can join us as we plow the fields in the spring, make
music in the summer’s twilight, and bring in the harvest during the
fall. Call us for a calendar of events!
Our farm consists of 16 original and restored log structures, most
relocated from within 10 miles of The Homeplace . The Homeplace is open March through
November. Group rates are available by reservation. For more information or a calendar of
events, call 270-924-2000 or 1-800-LBL-7077.
THE ELK & BISON
PRAIRIE
On this 700-acre restoration of
Kentucky’s native barrens, you can
see a habitat restoration project in
progress, as we demonstrate how
the region once looked during the
time of Daniel Boone. A gently
winding road takes you through this dynamic habitat restoration effort.
Watch for elk and bison, or listen as the wind rustles through Indian
Grass, as the prairie comes back to life.
The Elk & Bison Prairie is open year-round from dawn to dusk.
Tokens available at Welcome Stations or on-site admit one car. Group
rates are available for commercial vans and buses. Guided group
tours are also available by reservation. Call 1-800-LBL-7077 or
