Applications
Suitable for mechanical smoke control with an option to provide day to day ventilation.
Installation up to max. 20° inclination angle.
All units fulfill the F200, F300 and F400 categories in accordance with EN 12101-3, as well as snow classes SL 125
(125N/m²) - TL version and SL 500 (500 N/m²) - WL version in accordance with EN 12101-3. They are CE marked.

Limitations of use

Installation in coastal regions
The undesirable effect of installation in such places or in such conditions can be that the non-return
shutters clatter.
1.3
Construction
Major components made of aluminium alloy AlMn1Mg0,5.
An aerodynamically shaped square aluminium shroud discharges air vertically. Four non-return shutters in
the shroud ensure that the ventilator closes automatically when the fan is at rest. An internal rain channel
and neoprene seals guarantee that the ventilator is rain-proof.
The unit is available with a single speed motor only.
1.4
Operation
The movement of the fan impeller produces a negative pressure and draws air out of the building.
Simultaneously, a cushion of pressurised air builds up above the impeller, which opens the return flaps
and allows the smoke to be sucked out of the room to the outside. When the power is switched off, the
impeller gradually comes to a standstill. Once the impeller stops moving, four sprung non-return shutters in
the shroud close automatically.

Applications
Mechanical smoke control with facility for day to day ventilation.
WL can be fitted either with a FCO ventilator or with a flap. The flap version can be installed in either walls or roofs.
There are two choices of unit:
WL fulfils categories F200, F300 and F400 in accordance with EN 12101-3.
WL with flap version fulfils snow class SL 500 (500 N/m²) in accordance with EN 12101-3.

W-Liberator with flap
Major components made of aluminium alloy AlMn1Mg0,5. Motor guard painted steel, hinges stainless steel, 30 mm
thick mineral wool insulation for double skin external flap.
4.3
Operation of W-Liberator with flap
For day to day ventilation
The fan starts up and simultaneously the flap is opened: a gas spring pushes the flap and simultaneously
the worm gear motor unwinds the drum and steadily lets the cable go. The external flap opens to
approximately 70° for day to day ventilation, owing to the geometry of the safety locking mechanism.
Once the flap has reached the open end position, a built-in limit switch shuts off the opening mechanism.
The external flap is closed automatically once the fan motor has been switched off using the built-in worm
gear motor coiling up the cable. Once the flap has reached the closed end position, a built-in limit switch
shuts off the closing mechanism.
For smoke control
In a fire situation there is a double safety mechanism:
If the smoke is cool then the fan will start up and the flap will open as above. However if it is hotter than
93°C, then a solder link will part the cable and the flap will automatically open to 90° under pressure from
the gas spring. Should the gas spring fail in its open position, a safety device ensures that the flap does
not close again.

W-Liberator with FCO louvred ventilator
All principal components are manufactured from corrosion resistant aluminium AlMn1Mg0,5.
Guards: steel coated.
WL/03/06/... is delivered with this aluminium bladed FCO unit:
FCO/1ST /0911/A2X/M1C230/1F93/X/FR/N2.
WL/03/08/... is delivered with this aluminium bladed FCO unit:
FCO/1ST/1013/A2X/M1C230/1F93/X/FR/N2.

Operation of W-Liberator with FCO louvred ventilator
For day to day ventilation
The fan starts up and simultaneously the FCO opens under a spring, since the FCO ventilator is equipped
with a 230V Belimo power to close / spring to open motor. The Belimo closes the ventilator once the fan
has been switched off.
For smoke control
In a fire situation there is a double safety mechanism:
If the smoke is cool then the fan will start up and the flap open as above. If the smoke is hot, then an
additional failsafe device will open the FCO within seconds, without any intervention of the Belimo motor.
