In the following pages we are
illustrating the Brevetti nylon cable
chains, sold and serviced by the
Cavotec companies - sales units of the
Cavotec Group - and by the network of
the Group Distributors.
The Cavotec Group

The Cavotec Group is the result of a
specific concept: to select the best
technology and products for power
supply end users.
We started in the early sixties by
designing and producing motorpowered cable reels and, later,
slipring assemblies and Panzerbelt
cable protection system.
Lately, in order to meet other specific
needs of our customers, we decided to
select specialized manufacturing
partners sharing our philosophy
concerning the quality level and the
service to the customer.
One of them is Brevetti Stendalto,
leading manufacturer of cable chains.
Brevetti Cable Chains
Offshore
Founded in 1976 in Monza, Italy, the
manufacturing company Brevetti
Stendalto, was the first to develop and
manufacture the revolutionary cable
chains in nylon. Today Brevetti is
considered one the most important
manufacturers of plastic as well as
steel cable chains in Europe.
With a range of some 20 types of
chains, which can be used in over 200
different applications, Brevetti can
solve problems related to guiding
cables, hoses and other similar
flexible materials, providing a complete and satisfactory solution.
Brevetti Cable Chains
Light and secure, even at high speed,
Brevetti chains will provide protection
for the cables or hoses carried inside
at considerable travel distances.
They are used to protect moving
cables in a great variety of
applications, such as machine tools,
robots and manipulator systems,
conveyors and warehouse systems,
special vehicles and aerial platforms,
offshore units.
Special cable chains for automation industry. The pictures show Brevetti cable chains mounted on an ABB industrial robot (IRB 6400 C compact). These chains have
been developed in Sweden in collaboration with ABB Robotics, in order to protect all electrical cables feeding the robot against unnecessary bendings and wear.
The chain makes it also possible to change rapidly a malfunctioning cable without dismantling operations.
Quality control
Brevetti cable chains are
manufactured under a severe quality
control system approved, when
requested, according to ISO 9001.
Test are carried out with respect to:
1) Raw materials
2) Standard dimensions and
3) Reliability trials.
How to choose a chain
The designer should consider what is
the travel length of the chain required
and the travel length available to
accomodate the chain. He must also
consider the minimum bending radii
of the hoses and/or cables to be
installed. The he selects the most
appropriate chains able to carry the
additional load per meter.
How to install a cable
in the cable chain
To ensure the correct operation of the
chain and to avoid damage to cable/
hoses, they must be fitted as follows:
1. The bending radius of the chain
must be greater than the bending
radius of the cables/hoses.
2. The cables/hoses should be placed
separately rather than on top of one
another.
3. There should be 10% free space
between the cable diameters and the
internal dimensions of the chain.
4. Install the cables/hoses
symmetrically in the chain, having
the larger and heavier ones placed
towards the outside and the smaller
ones in the middle.

Assembling and dismantling
of the links
The chain is sold and delivered
complete with mounting attachments.
It is always possible to modify the
length of the chain or replace
damaged links by simply using a
special tool.
Guide Channel
To enable the chain to work
efficiently, it is necessary that the
surface of the support is both flat and
continuous. Therefore, it is advisable
to provide an adequate guide channel
which we can supply on request.

Mounting Variations
Brevetti Stendalto chains can be used
to satisfy a wide variety and
combination of motions:
Horizontal with mobil part below or
above.
Horizontal with chain mounted on its
side.
Vertical with curve below or above.
Combination of both vertical and
horizontal movement.
Our Technical Office is available to
assist on special or complex
applications with the support of
C.A.D. systems.

The application of 2 special chains in a counter
rotation configuration allowing a rotation of 370
degrees. A special housing guides the chain over its
entire rotation.

Nylon chains
Constructional details of each series
SR 200 - SR 300 - SR 305 - SR 355
The links are made in one piece. The connecting pivot
pins are made from an anti-friction material.
SR 400
The links are in one piece with a removable cross
piece with a “snap fit” connection for the installation
of wiring equipment complete with connectors or
joints.
SR 306 - SR 307
The links are equipped with transverse pieces in
dismountable halves and are available in the
following types; with a single slot and separators
featuring a “snap fit” closure, with holes or
aluminium rods and movable separators.
SR 308
The links are joined with double connector pins and
they are equipped with cross pieces similar to series
SR 306, SR 307
SR 316 - SR 318
This series of chains are specially made to be used
where the travel distance is particularly long.
The links are similar to those of series SR 306, SR
308 but are equipped with skids which permit the
chain to slide on itself. Special guide channels,
equipped with rollers, are available to support the
links of the chain in the section of the travel where the
chain is not superimposed.

Special bracket links for the ends of
the chains are provided for chain
attachment to the fixed and mobile
points. These can be mounted in any
position and suitable covers are
provided to close the opening. The
nuts and bolts for fixing can be located
in a number of recess points on the
bracket links.
Technical Characteristics
Each link is made in one piece and
has a quickly removable cover for easy
installation of the cables/hoses
complete with their fittings. To open
the chain it is necessary to start at the
female bracket end of the chain and
progress in the direction of the arrows.
Replacement is the reverse of this
procedure.The separators can be
placed throughout the chain and clip
into place.
The connecting pivot pins are made
from antifriction material.
